what up everyone. Been browsing this board every few weeks since im going to Hangout 2014 again as well. Got a lot of down time at work lately so id figure id join in on the discussion.
wanted to see if anyone thoguh Childish Gambino was a possiblity in the tent to replace Macklemore or Kendrick? He just dropped a new album a i saw he played Beal St last year and i dont see him scheduled for anything past Feb at the moment.
also what about Bastille? they get back from their UK tour in April and get back to touring the states and have nothing from April 29 to June 13.

Welcome to the boards! I don't think there's any evidence for either, but I for one would be ok with both.

I would be in favor of both. I don't necessarily like gambino's new album, but I like his live show.
Bad blood by Bastille is one of my favorite pop alternative songs of the year. I could get down to them.

I don't get it, with Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty, and Kings of Leon as headliners last year what makes everyone think hangout has the pull/finances to land Pearl Jam, the Boss, and another headliner in the same year?

If I have learned anything during my time here on inforoo it's that rationality is completely thrown out the window here in the hangout thread. It's best just to sit back and watch delusion run wild.
I don't have any reasoning behind how much these headliners cost or whether they can pull them. Hence my prediction for the day. The lack of solid info this year is causing me to lose my sensibility.

Haven't all three of those headlined B'roo? I don't see PJ and Boss as being bigger than previous top two's.

they are, much bigger
They play the same venues and headline the same festivals so I won't take your word for it. The last three years, the hangout has had the same or equivalent headliners as the other fests.

It really hasn't. I'm sure someone is going to jump in and say "ZOMG but Paul Simon!!!!1," but you know how there will be those headliners that pop up EVERYWHERE in a given calendar year? Like Bonnaroo will have Tom Petty, and he plays everywhere, but they'll also have an exclusive "big" name like McCartney? Hangout generally has a top-3 comprised of acts which would be the third ranked headliner at fests like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lolla, ACL, etc.
And again, this isn't a knock on Hangout. It's a smaller festival, with a smaller audience and a much more mainstream lineup- they tend to get the "common" festival bands for any given season. There's nothing wrong with that, it's more or less the same as Governor's Ball, Firefly, etc.
What does that have to do with the hangout's ability to book PJ or Jersey boy? Where else did Stevie Wonder play? Oooh, an 'exclusive', and yes, paul simon.....jack white...it..is bruce more expensive than dmb or zbb?...no, if so, he would play bigger venues. Is u2 more? Yes, they play stadiums at every stop.

I'd bet Bruce actually does cost more than dmb or zbb. Also, he plays stadiums - Fall US 2012 tour

This is the most puzzling thing about Hangout. Why is it so hard for the people who enjoy it to admit that it's on the second-tier of festivals? It's pretty clear that there is a well-defined "big 4" in the U.S. of Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, ACL. Admitting that Hangout is half the size of those fests and doesn't necessarily book the same caliber lineup isn't some sort of badge of shame. It's being realistic.
I admit that it's in the 2nd-tier but I still think Hangout has the ability to pull in those kinds of big acts as headliners, specifically if they can get creative with the undercard. I will say that Bruce would probably be the most expensive headliner they've ever booked.
But let's also face it: we have absolutely no clue who's playing the quacking thing yet so it's all speculation anyway.

That's why i said "every stop" philthy boy. Yes, he can fill a stadium in east rutherford.

Chareth, do you attend the hangout, or just troll this board.
Secondly, if the bands that headline the hangout also headline the 'big 4' then why are they 2nd tier headliners at the hangout? Yes, the hangout is capped at 35k, so it will never have as many attendees or bands, but the band overlap with the big 4 is irrefutable.

3 Boston stadiums, 2 Philly stadiums, 2 Chicago stadiums. Last time I checked those cities are located outside of East Rutherford. Get your geography up homeboy!

Bruce Springsteen plays stadiums all around the world, unless it's cold out, then he plays indoors. He also rarely plays US festivals. The Hangout snagging him is really, really, unlikely.

Take a look at all the festivals from last year - there were many acts that appeared at many, many festivals. So a festival getting, say, The xx, Grizzly Bear, Local Natives, Of Monsters and Men, and Passion Pit wouldn't necessarily be a big deal, regardless of the quality of those bands. If all of those acts appeared at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza (which I think was the case), then it's the other bands, the ones that differ, which ultimately matter. It's the same way with headliners - Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder and Tom Petty have all headlined other fests, correct. But when Tom Petty plays, he's third on the lineup behind Paul McCartney. When Kings of Leon play, they're behind Arcade Fire and Kanye West. And so on.
Imagine you're a fan of a baseball team, alright? And your team grabs three new starting pitchers. If they go out and grab three pitchers who had previously been the #3 starters on their respective teams, would you suddenly say that you had as good a rotation as those other teams? Or would you say "these are solid players, but they're not at the level of the #1 and #2 starters the other teams can boast - they have a legit 1-2-3, we've got three 3's." Do you see the distinction I'm making here? Is any of this landing?
Pablo, I assume you have a good idea about these things....Give us a list of bands you think would be impossible for the hangout to book.
This is just pathetic. That cheesed*ck doesn't know sh*t about sh*t.
And to beat it into your head a little further: Bruce drew more people to Jazzfest last year than anyone that I have personally ever seen in my experience of that festival. Many of my friends that NEVER go to festivals went just to see him. And he is probably pretty close to the level of Macca in terms of cost. If Hangout were to pull someone on the level of Macca or Bruce, the rest of the lineup would suffer because he would be more than half of their talent budget. Festivals like Roo, Coachella, ACL, and Lolla probably have twice the talent budget of Hangout because they are not limited to 35K dickets and are able to charge more because they actually bring the talent that draws (and nearly twice as much of it). The major draw of Hangout is the location and beach vacation side package. And they had trouble selling tickets this year. They swapped talent handling agencies. If they actually produce a lineup that sells out quickly, and feel comfortable raising the ticket price to about $300 for 2015, then they might be able to afford something comparable to Bruca and PJ in the top 2. If they get Bruce this year...the rest of the lineup is probably going to suffer. Which isn't a bad thing necessary as long as they book relevant bands. But if they get a bunch of the mouth-breather rock that Red Mountain Ent typically books for Beale Street and Bayfest. The people that want to see that type of sh*t are probably not forking out $220+. I could be wrong though...see previous statement about the major draw of hangout. Salt Life'd
