Ya sounds about right. I already put in an inguiry for another corner suite at the San Carlos. Place is perfect. If anyone was out on the beach east of the fest, we had the corner suite that was lit up to the point that you could see it from a block down. Blackhawks flag on the balcony with a ton of lights goin on.
we ate at tacky jacks on the east side before we left and i dont know what i was but i liked the east side better. however the main stage being at the west side was a huuuge plus for those early acts
I am sort of looking to go ahead and make reservations for next year. Will likely go VIP next year as well. Might change it up since I have never stayed on the West side
I could actually get into the Phoenix All Suites right now if I was able to pull the trigger on a deposit
Appreciate it Longinus. Yeah I'm gonna take a look at it and see if it's possible because that's insane to be able to sit right their and watch acts. We could hear the music pretty clear from our San Carlos suite but if we could upgrade, might as well see what it would entail.
I will second Island Winds West, since I already have mine booked there for 2015.

This was the best Hangout! Despite everyone else's complaints, we had a wonderful time.
Thursday was Magic Man/Bleachers/Bombay Bicycle Club/a small bit of Wolfmother. We got too drunk to stay for Girl Talk (Damn you, delicious IPA!) We tried to get some free Pizza Hut pizza to soak up the alcohol, but it was some BBQ crap I couldn't eat. We ended up going to the condo early to sleep the drunk off. I was most impressed with Bombay Bicycle Club, but enjoyed Bleachers and their Tom Petty cover.
Friday was Ozomatli/Black Lips/Balkan Beat Box/Valerie June-Ingrid Michaelson/Dawes/Gary Clark Jr./QotSA/Black Keys. We LOVED Ozomatli's and Balkan Beat Box's sets! Ingrid Michaelson's polka version of "You & I" was adorable. Dawes/Clark/QotSA were all solid sets that had us rocking. TBK could have used a few more older songs in their set list, but overall, we were pretty satisfied.
Saturday was RDGLDGRN/Little Green Cars/Shakey Graves-SpaceFace(?)/Amos Lee/Trombone Shorty/Modest Mouse/Flaming Lips/Killers. RDGLDGRN and Little Green Cars were fantastic! I'm a huge fan now. Shakey Graves was great, but we were melting on the hot asphalt during that time slot (How do you GAs do it??) and decided to check out The Flaming Lips side band. They were decent. I don't know if it was because we just ate and were standing in a cool pool, but Amos Lee almost put us to sleep. Modest Mouse and the Flaming Lips were the best sets of the day! The Killers flippin' rocked too. We left at the encore to get situated for fireworks on the balcony. We could still hear the songs fine, so it worked out.
Sunday started late because we were trying to buy loyalty tickets. It was Soja/Reignwolf/Capital Cities from the balcony/Portugal, the Man/St. Paul & the Broken Bones/Andrew W.K./Outkast. Soja was very political, but I liked the "Fuck BP!" song they opened with! Reignwolf should have been a Mainstage/Chevy Stage act, IMHO. We had a blast and Portugal, the Man and St. Paul & the Broken Bones! I've seen them before and they never disappoint. Outkast was AMAZING! We left Andrew W.K. early to camp out decent spots in VIP, near the partition. We danced our asses off!
Also, it was great meeting ltdan before Outkast!
VIP is totally worth it to us. Not having to worry about carrying large amounts of cash for food and booze is a plus. Having cool pools to dip into during those acts in the heat of the day is a lifesaver. All of the shade in the Grove and to the side of the Chevy Stage kept us going too. The boyfriend and I are very pale, so we appreciate all the shade we can get! Also, I know some people were complaining about bad sound at the Chevy Stage, but that wasn't the experience in VIP.
The several thousand additional people was noticeable, but it wasn't an issue until leaving at the end of the night. Having that bank of smelly port-a-johns right at the turn onto Beach Blvd. made the crowd even more noticeable! LOL I don't see how Hangout can expand numbers next year without significantly widening the footprint and changing the staggering of the sets - it's the only way they can accommodate a crowd over 40k, in my opinion.
The crowd this year was fairly young and college age - lots of frat guys and sorority girls. I haven't decided if I preferred them over the hippie jam band fans of the previous year. They're both kind of annoying. *shrugs* The crowd wasn't as stinky this year, so there's that. :-P
Overall, it was a great weekend! We have our tickets for next year and the condo is booked! I talked to many people throughout the weekend, some from the other side of the country, and they all come to Hangout because there's nothing like the setting, lineup, and southern hospitality. That gives me confidence that this festival is here to stay. Thanks for another great one and I can't wait to speculate about 2015!

What a weekend!! Outkast was the single greatest musical experience of my short 24 years of life. My friends and I have talked about and looked forward to this reunion for years, and it was without a doubt my most anticipated show of the festival. They absolutely crushed it, and the energy was crazy. For me at least, it was worth the price of admission. Honorable mention to STS9 as well, they were incredible.
Longinus is mixed up, we stayed at Island Winds East, which is the first building behind the main stage. Got it reserved for next year but the price is getting out of control. $3000 f'n bucks for Weds-Mon!!! It was $1000 in 2011. It gets split several ways but still, that is a ridiculous amount of money.
That said, if I didn't have an epcot condo I prob wouldn't do Hangout anymore because of how over the top commercial it is. The music is always great but the crowd gets worse every year as new crops of young chesty bros make the trek down to Gulf Shores with the sold intention of eating mystery white fluffy powders and slamming into people every 5 seconds.
I thought this year was better than last year, musically. They def skimped on the production this year. One glaring example is not having the actual shoreline lit up. When you're on the Feris Wheel this is painfully obvious.
First Hangout was still the best Hangout. Second year had the best lineup though.
Just because our parking passes said Island Winds East doesn't mean that's where we're at. Why would Island Winds East be west of Island Winds West?
The internet is right. If you're standing on W. Beach Blvd, looking at the buildings from where the little table was set up this year, Island Winds East was the building on the left and Island Winds West was the building on the right.
This band called Space Face replaced some DJ around 1-2pm on Saturday. They were really good! The sound was so loud in the tent that combined with my amazing hangover I almost threw up from the high decibels though so i had to listen outside the tent.
They are supposed to be affiliated with Wayne Coyne somehow but I haven't bothered looking it up. He def wasn't with them there. They played the official Flips afterparty at some Mansion Saturday night but I heard they were too fxcked up to even play.
thats awesome you heard about, i started it hahaha. we were messing around telling people then Chance dropped so we pushed it hard and felt like it spread pretty good Saturday, even used twitter to help push it and told people they are jsut saying Taxi so it can be a surprise. had a lot of Ja is still alive? and i even had a girl ask me if "THEY are good". it was too funny.
Well, back to reality. What a weekend. Bought a loyalty ticket for next year just in case. Every year my friends and I think we should do something else instead of Hangout and every year by the time we leave we're saying, "that's the most fun I'm gonna have all year."
Met solidrock, good dude.
I had quite the eventful weekend besides the music aspect. If anyone saw 3 dudes with their hands behind their heads outside Pink Pony at like 12-1am, that was me and 2 of my friends. We were completely sh*tfaced and saw 2 kegs sitting outside and decided it'd be a good idea to take them back to the condo which was only 2 blocks away. Well they were full and we were all way too drunk to even attempt to carry them. Long story short, busted hard, cops got our info, let us go but cut our wristbands. I proceeded to go back to the condo and pass the f out. It was embarrassing as sh*t, I can't remember the last time I was that drunk. Next morning all 3 of us headed to the box office to see what we could do, w/o giving away the details, we all got our wristbands back. I then proceeded to be as sick as I've ever been in a 24 hr period. I could not keep anything down. I literally puked about 8 times throughout the day. Friday I was basically tied to my bed until 7 where I forced myself to see Queens and the Black Keys. I didn't even attempt drinking, just tried to keep water down all day and made it through those 2 shows. Calling it a rough start to the weekend would be an understatement. what they did. Phenomenal set.
Hope everyone had as good a time as me. It's looking more and more likely that 2015 will be a go for me.
Zaj! Great to meet you. I can't believe all that happened to you! I'm sure our 7+hrs of beach drinking had nothing to do with it. ...and yes, your balcony was kickarse. That western view is tough to beat. I'm pretty sure phoenix doesn't have any rooms that can handle the size of your crew. I think they're like a king and a kid's bunk.
Blotter got me worried about a price increase so I called today. I've had the same rate for 3yrs, but evidently my rental company has been bought out. Now they said they'll give me a 15% discount for next year which results in about a 45% increase in our rate! It was a no brainer before, but now I'll probably be lineup dependent. After 4 in a row, maybe it's time to venture out again....though I know there's nothing out there that compares to a condo on the beach at a music festival. I may head to Red Rocks for some Legal fun.
I love those frat kids. They add to my experience. Had some really solid dancing by me for pretty lights. The old, salty drunks, however, are my pet peeve. Ugh, they get more annoying ever year. Please quit serving 8% strawberritas!!!

i made the mistake of drinking them friday. worked up a nice morning load but after the first 2 acts we had nothing to do for like 3 hours and spent over 2 of them playing beach volleyball so i decided to go with higher content to try and get the buzz back and man they kicked my so hard i left after like 5 Keys songs and busted my ass walking home lol
Finally Friday and I've escaped the battle royale with reality again. What a f***ing fantastic weekend. The lineup was not up my alley. I was objectively and subjectively nervous how that would combine with an extra 5k folks, but all fears were so quickly cast aside. My Hangout Moment (what I call it when the festival finally envelops me) arrived almost immediately. Valerie June, sun soaking, slipping into my afternoon buzz and the only clouds I could see were through the Palladia backdrop. Monet couldn't have painted it prettier. From there the whole weekend flowed like a perfectly lazy river. Certainly had a few rage moments (no pun intended as I was choked out of the People of the Sun set), but altogether just a pleasant reminder why this fest is ALWAYS worth it. Probably my least anticipated musically and ultimately just as good as it ever was IMO. If you've been you know. If you haven't just understand it cannot be beat. Other fests can supply you better goods- musically, logistically, food etc. Though, the Hangout serves such special and specific moments and emotions no others can equal. I'm sure recency bias is in play here, but I wanted to post my thoughts. As we were walking out, my friend stops and turns in the crowd. I see her stone cold turned around and ask if she's alright to which she responded, "hold up. just turn around and see what we're leaving. I want to remember why I can never miss this." Pretty much sums it up. I hope everyone found some peace and mind. Safe summer and see y'all next time. Long live the Hangout. If that isn't nice then I don't know what is.

Agreed on Chevy stage. QOTSA should have been WAY louder. Also are The Black Keys cursed at Hangout to always have crappy sound? We thought it was our position, but we posted up the same spot for Killers and sound was 200X better. Get a consistent sound hangout!
Also WHERE THE F DID ALL THE TRASH CANS/RECYCLE BINS GO? Did they think they could have less because they had those trash volunteer people? The amount of Bug Light cans everywhere was unreal. People were even just throwing them on the ground inside that Malibu DJ tent (which by the way had WAY better DJs than the BoomBoom this year. I'm getting pretty over the "when will the bass drop" crap.)
Shout out to the dude from 1975 consuming an entire bottle of red wine during their set. I was up front and center for that and despite it being packed with teen girls, those guys are awesome I don't care what you say.
Was it just me or was the cheesediking this year exceptional? It's like no one was there for bands, they just wanted to take a picture OF the band to let people know they were there. I saw one girl tell the sheriffs parked on the beach side of Bastille that they were "OMGMYFAVORITEBANDRIGHTNOW" and she proceeded to text someone the entire time maybe looked at the stage once or twice. I sort of miss the old days when cell phones wouldn't work at the fest. Maybe I'm getting too old.
And MTV telling people to take their flags down? Not cool. The flags are one of my favorite parts, especially at the headliners when they all come together. Dancing Mario with the light fingers! Also whoever is hi frank - we ended up next to you guys a ton. You're in most of our pictures!
All in all another amazing weekend. Killers on the beach was all I'd hoped for and more. Balkan Beat Box was awesome - and one of the few acts with appropriate volume!
And MTV telling people to take their flags down? Not cool.
This was such bullshit! Our group built some awesome rage sticks to help us find each other when we split up, and we couldn't get them in for most of the weekend. Eventually we cut the poles down a bit and they started letting us in, but it was a hassle every time going through security.
anyone else think they need to fix the Palladia stage? those rocks are brutal it takes away from the stage.
I named that stage the torture rack because of the rocks. If I couldn't make it front row I just hung back at the edge of the grass for most of the bands I saw there. It's been the same way for the past 3 years, just had more acts that I wanted to see at that stage this year, which I did.
Ended up booking at Seabreeze for next year. Has anyone stayed here previously that could provide some insight. It's on the west side about 12 minute walk from the fest across the street from the Gulf with deeded beach access. Got an insane price through VBRO for a large condo and couldn't pass it up.
