One band that we haven't talked about yet is foster the people. Could they headline? Think about it before you say no. Firefly headliner last year, killed their 2012 set at Roo, new album in 2014, Facebook pictures of them rehearsing. They could be the out of nowhere headliner.
I really wouldn't consider Foster a stand alone headliner. Firefly only had two headliners this year. Sunday they had Vampire Weekend, Avett Bros, and Foster in order and considered that sufficient enough. To be honest, Foster the People is no where near headliner worthy yet. I think someone already mentioned his ramblings which were painful to sit through. Vampire Weekend should have been the closer of Firefly if they are too cheap to get a Sunday closer.
Other Probability- Police would seem to be a good probability as their current tour ends in March and is suppose to be extended. This would seem to line up for Hangout and fits the one 80's act that Hangout tries to hit on every year.
ok, so I just ran your post through goober translator and realized you meant Paul Simon & Sting are "Police." Will Stuart Copeland be on drums?
I'd be cool with Sting and Paul Simon on the beach as a mellow closer for the weekend as long as we had some heavier headliners Friday and Saturday. The hits between S&G, PS solo, Sting solo, and the Police would be a decent show for me at least. Something like...
Friday:
Hangout Stage- My Morning Jacket Chevy Stage- Vampire Weekend
Saturday:
Hangout Stage- Pearl Jam Chevy Stage- Queens of the Stone Age
Sunday:
Hangout Stage- Sting & Paul Simon Chevy Stage- Jack Johnson (? probably too big for Chevy)
Do they do day passes for Hangout? I would really like to go again this year but vacation days are limited, might be able to squeeze in a night or two.

They did the last 2 years and they need all the money they can get at the rate tickets sold last year and have this year so far. I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Just throwing out some bands and artist I would like to see since I haven't seen any for sure rumors yet and like I said just my opinion on different artist I would like to see. Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Eminem, the Killers, Elton John, Outkast, the Black Keys, Foster the People, Kid Cudi, Paramore, Of Monsters and Men, A$AP Rocky, the Lumineers, Cage the Elephant, the Avett Brothers, the Dirty Heads, Tyler the Creator, Manchester Orchestra, Bastille, Broken Bells, American Authors, and the Neighborhood
And I know all these wouldn't all be able to play together just some bands I'd like to see play. I know alot of people want arcade fire and muse but those are 2 in my opinion I don't like too much and really hope dont play but like I said just my opinion either way I've got tix and gonn have the best time my 3rd year in a row

For what it is worth, I don't think hangout would ever book an untested headliner. All of their headliners even dating back to the beginning have had some name cache. Vampire weekend is better, and makes more sense. I was just throwing out their name since they are gearing up for something per their Facebook page. I like and approve of the idea of VW, PJ, and jack Johnson as long as we get MMJ, some cool undercard acts and a solid hip hop act- chance the rapper, bone thugs)
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest
Bone Thugs would be a huge get for me. I'm not a big hip-hop guy, so getting a group/rapper that I'm actually into would definitely bump this year up a notch.

This plus Tyler, the Creator. I don't necessarily go for the hip hop but it's an added bonus to the great rock, alternative, pop, and indie rock.

You'll fit in well in the Hangout Thread. Just keep your completely unrealistic guesses coming

Cheesed!@k? Always nice to be welcomed back into the loving arms of schlonginus....I missed you too. However, I can say the lineup will come sooner than you think. So I do know SOME s%#t! Just not specific s!&t....Aside from that, I currently have nothing else of note to add regarding the lineup nor any whoring to do. YET.
I'll answer the questions asked/discussed earlier and I really do mean this: I think Hangout could get ANYONE they wanted....depending on the act, cost, and just how bad they want them. I have no doubt they COULD do a Macca/Bruce/U2/Stones/Clapton/Prince/Elton/Madonna/NIN/Eminem/Dr.Dre/Outkast/Police/Jay Z/Menudo/Rupert Holmes/*insert whatever unlikely, hard to get, unavailable or crazy expensive act you like here* all in one day....IF they chose to. The crew there has the ability and resources to do it.
Now, is that LIKELY? Course not. It is a labor of love, but it does need to prove at least marginally profitable for them to put the effort in for months and months of planning and execution. And being capped size-wise will probably mean that supermegadream lineup that exists in each of our heads will never exactly happen for exactly the reasons an earlier poster said...simply no way to recover the cost. All festivals are always a balancing act of budgets and if you go too strong at the top, the undercard might suffer. And vice versa. But they always strive for, and IMHO, put together a good balance. If they were allowed to sell 100,000 tickets, I'm pretty sure you'd have your quackin' mind blown. Personally, I LOVE the fact it's not a huge fest attendance-wise. I have ALWAYS been able to find a good spot at a stage with a good sonic sweet spot and no knuckleheads trampling me (I dislike crowds.) And that's gen pop, not VIP or anything. If it were three times bigger, I doubt that'd be likely. Plus, the beach spot is the thing. Being able to drift back to the condo for a chill or explore the beach is WAAAYYY better than any other fest of this sort.
But, I'd never say never when it comes to what their plan is year to year...
I'm looking forward to it as much as you guys...maybe more.
Pablo I have to ask, I know you can't give any specific details (if you have any), but with the increase in pricing for this fest and the backlash from the lineup last year, I have to wonder if they're gearing up for a bigger step up in their lineup. Honestly the raised ticket prices make no sense to me otherwise, especially because the festival is going to remain capped attendance wise(which I like).
Pablo, who are realistic acts you'd like to see them book?
Ok. First off, let this be known..NONE OF THIS IS A HINT REGARDING LINEUP INFO...this is merely bands I personally would dig seeing hit the Fest at some point be it this year or in the future.
I'd be down to watch (in no particular order and including repeats):
Prince NIN Phish Rolling Stones Daft Punk (my one big EDM act I dig) Radiohead Muse Police Bruce Frank Turner Outkast Franti is always fun. Love that guy. Same for Grace Potter. Foos DMB (call me a bro, but I still dig 'em) Black Keys Alabama Shakes Mumford Lenny Kravitz (still the best single show I've ever seen in '92 at UNO with Blind Melon) a Live reunion Elton John (c'mon..admit it...the group singalong of Tiny Dancer would be worth it alone) Jay Z JT Bloodhound Gang (guilty pleasure...still love those idiots..be a fun Boom Boom act) Brandi Carlisle Beach Boys (I'm sure they've fallen off, but it's just a must happen for HOMF to me and I've never seen them)
My pipe dream:
Lonely Island featuring every actor/artist they've ever worked with in one giant stage production
Dream already fulfilled: Hung with Chuck D. and watched PE kill it. Awesome.

Beats me zaj. Much as we are involved, we're not THAT involved. Have no idea what/how/why pricing gets set, logistical changes happen, some get booked, some don't. I wish I did though, as I think it's a fascinating subject from a biz-meets-art perspective. Would love to see someone do a doc film about what it REALLY takes to put on Hangout. Not stage footage, a chronicle of the months leading up to the fest.

Understandable. BTW, looking at your own personal list, if NIN ever found their way onto the beach I'd lose my freakin mind.

Agreed. NIN would be incredible. And I listed Prince first for one reason...can you imagine the visual....closing Hangout stage...crowd swaying and singing...final strains of "Purple Rain" wailing....fireworks go off in epic fashion...THAT'D be a cool moment....
Yeah, I definitely won't expect anything until late January at the earliest. It'd be cool if they did something special with it like 2012. Most importantly, just don't drop the ball to the extent of last year.
that seems so late. im got a few friends who need to see a lineup before commiting so i was hoping for early Jan at the worst. hopefully some serious leaks happen between now and then.
Ya same here. That's what sucks. I got a group of 10-15 going. This'll be my 3rd straight year but some of the guys from last year are telling me they're in but havent't committed a dime to it. I reserved our condo back in June and of our group like 6 people got their early birds already but that's it. Once the lineup comes out, people will start moving, but for someone who's planning it, it's very frustrating.
I'll keep my wish list to a minimum. I hope the air conditioned seafood tent is back and a midnight release like two years ago would be pretty solid.
I know you're new around here but realistic expectations are unacceptable.
Gotcha. My Bad. In that case I'll also have Timberlake, Outkast and Prince......closing the Chevy Stage! and the Eagles, Daft Punk, and Sir Paul headlining.
