There was a guy/girl on here last year who was staying at Island Winds. I never got the opportunity to meet you, but if you're staying there again, PM me. I'm staying there again and would love to meet you.
Island Winds East or West? If it's west, I am just across the parking lot this year. How'd you like the area?
Island Winds West, but either is a good pick. I mean, they're right next to each other.
This year will be my third year at Island Winds West and I absolutely love it! The condo I get looks like the 90's threw up all over it, but it is clean and relatively sound-proof with the doors closed. It is close enough to the fest to go "home" and grab a snack (or a decent craft beer when you get sick of Bud at the fest)in between sets.
The gate is right outside the condo and was never congested, as opposed to the east gate. (It isn't available for access to the pre-party, but a walk from to the north gate isn't that bad.)
Also, the sound from the mainstage is pretty decent on the beachfront. Last year, we didn't go to KOL (not our scene), but we stepped out on the balcony for the fireworks, which are set off from Island Winds's beach.
For Hangout 2011, we stayed at Phoenix ???/whatever... the one next to the Florabama. It was a nightmare. People were outside screaming all night until about 10:00 am. I, frankly, am too old for that. (I'm 35.) I need at least 6 hrs of uninterrupted sleep for all the partying I'll be doing the next day. But i can see the appeal for other folks.
I don't know anything about your scene, but I think you made a good choice with Island Winds East. It is such a convenient location!
No idea. Probably with a friend in Robertadale unless I find a free place closer. I can go all out and go to a couple fests or I can go cheap and go to a couple more. Know what I mean?

I hope you're all wrong with your ideas for the lineups.. I think your quest to seem more musically enlightened by name dropping more and more obscure bands has crossed the line between good music and *ive heard of that band*. It reminds me of a Portlandia episode

I know exactly what you mean. Hope you find somewhere closer.

I've never been to a fest that didn't have a few obscure "Who?" bands. I enjoy it! I like discovering new music.

Which names specifically are you offended by? Who would you like to see at this year's installation of The Hangout?
Personally, my list is really small. Beyond the flaming lips, drive by truckers, and some largish profile jam band, I'd be open to anything. I suppose it's not really this thread that I'm offended by.. Perhaps it's the scene altogether that rubs me the wrong way. I'm really not a fan of the anthem style singing 'car commercial' bands that are springing up and winning Grammys. I think I'm getting old :/

Absolutely- a fest where you know ALL the bands is boring.. Might as well listen to your iPod. Part of the fun is learning about new artists and even new genres. But when it's ALL obscure stuff, there's also a line on that side too
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest
Kid Cudi DAnny Brown Portugal. the man Yeasayer Black Angels
Do you think its possible that miley cyrus will be there.. Bc last year they had macklemore, ellie goulding et cet hell even vinny from jersey shore made an appearance

Neil Young & Crazy Horse | Foo Fighters | Outkast | My Morning Jacket | The Lumineers | The Flaming Lips | Queens of the Stone Age | The Dead Weather | Pixies | Los Lobos | Lorde | The Replacements | Alabama Shakes | HAIM | M.I.A. | Tyler, the Creator | Amos Lee | Cage the Elephant | Fitz and the Tantrums | Capital Cities
Pick away, people. I know that we probably won't have more than 50% of this.

Are you going GA/VIP/SVIP?
I am actually staying in Southern Sands which is on the other side of Island Winds West. I am glad to hear your review of the location though. Prett much what I figured and hoped for. I hear you on the sleep think. I'll be 33 for this fest and I need a few hours in to catch the early shows. Coming down a day early from NY (leave Tuesday, night in Nashville, arrive Wednesday afternoon) and staying a day later this year (leaving Tuesday) to better enjoy my experience and the beach. I'm more of a jam band "hippie" fest kinda guy but I can get into anything and last year was a blast. Hoping to have a little more to do after the show ends than we did in our remote Orange Beach condo last year. Not even sure who or if anyone if coming with me yet but had to book early after the experience last year. I am going GA.
Other extremeish guesses: TV on radio - fleet foxes - Fitz and the T - Umphrey's McGee - Gary Clark Jr. - Capital Cities - Best coast - tUnE-yArDs - Kid Cudi - Drive by truckers - Cage the elephant - SBTRKT - bonobo - Modest Mouse

Oh, I misunderstood. Southern Sands is nice too. Take everything I said and add another 20 or so yards to it.
Hangout always has some jam for the jam band folks. I'm confident there will be a few in the lineup. Amen on the extended vacation. We're arriving on Thursday and leaving on Wednesday. We're going VIP again this year, but like making friends and would totally be down for some pre or post gaming during the fest. Evenings after the fest are hit or miss. Nothing was going on Friday night last year, but Saturday was pretty active with some post gaming on the beach. Also, the day after the fest, we plan on making pitchers of bloody marys and bumming it on the beach... maybe grilling some burgers. PM me your email and we'll try to find a way to meet if you like.

I haven't heard anyone mention anything about Phoenix yet. I think they would be great for the Hangout. They have never played here and also have open dates at this time.

Anyone else finding the verbiage strange for the announcement of the lineup? Both 92 zew and hangout fest's social media keep saying that they are announcing the 'complete lineup' and 'final lineup'.. So y'all think once they release it on Jan 15, that that's pretty much it?
I hope you're all wrong with your ideas for the lineups.. I think your quest to seem more musically enlightened by name dropping more and more obscure bands has crossed the line between good music and *ive heard of that band*. It reminds me of a Portlandia episode
Anyone else see the irony in name dropping 'portlandia' to make this point? .....and the point is to see what other music enthusiasts are into. I got into akron/family because of a thread just like this.
So just simplifying things, does anyone have any other predictions for headliners other than:
Friday: Jack Johnson Saturday: OutKast Sunday: The Killers/Pearl Jam
I feel like given the rumors and overall likelihood of these acts playing pretty much leaves us with this. I think it's probably the Killers but if the hiatus is real by the standards people think (as in nothing at all in the next 6 months or so), it would seem PJ is a very logical choice. Nothing is for sure but at this point it would seem this seems most likely.

Not name dropping Portlandia. Literally everyone has heard of it, so the fact that I know about it does not bring my any extra "cred"
