With this Jack Johnson shit looming, I gotta ask those that have seen him live before, is it going to be as much of a bore as I think it is? His music is fine but a late night set in the dark with that type of music and no real production to spice it up seems like such a letdown.

I'm not a big Jack Johnson fan but I saw him in DC and he was amazing. I'm sure he would be great to see on the beach...I would add Vampire Weekend to these prediction. I think there's a good chance HO got them. There in Atlanta on May 5th

I don't know, friends, I went back and compared last year's Coachella line up with HO's. We only shared a few bands and most of them undercards (Wolfgang Gartner, Shovels & Rope)
YYY's being the biggest one.
If we end up not sharing many I would take the majority of last year's Coachella line up that we didn't get. For sure.

Yeah that's true. Coachella usually does have a pretty distinct lineup that doesn't have the fest-whore bands that are all over the place. It's just a starting point for now though.
I just don't think you'll ever see Blur play a U.S. fest again, unless their next album propels them in a major way. Right now, they headline massive arenas all over the world, so any U.S. festival will need to cough up headliner-type dough to land them. Even at Coachella, which I think is probably the best spot for them, their set was criminally underattended. For U.S. fests, Blur won't be a draw equal to what they cost. If anything, I think that when/if they release their next album, they'll hit a bunch of cities in the U.S., where they can sell out theatres/mid-size venues instead.
It'll be interesting to see if Damon Albarn tours off his solo record he's putting out this year.

I def thought he mentioned Blur as a joke from last year...when the 3rd HO Headliner was 'blurred' out on the lineup poster... But I could also be totally imagining that.
Anyways... Im gonna be an a-hole this year and hope for a shitty lineup since I cant go. Wife is a teacher and she cant take off any during the last 2 weeks of school, which HO will always fall on those dates. She had to get up at 6am and 'call in sick' everyday last year at HO.
Iv always heard Lolla kinda sucks compared to other fests, but we have friends in Chi that she wants to visit this summer so Lolla (and maybe Waka) will be my only fest this year.

Yall have fun on the beach this year. I hate you.
Yes, I did start the "Blur is the 3rd headliner" joke last year, and it was the give that kept on giving, too. Gave me and others many laughs as we waited for them to announce Stevie.
Here's a bunch of undercard bands on my wishlist for you guys to slash away at:
311 (how have they not played this fest yet?) RDGLDGRN Diarrhea Planet (name alone may disqualify from HO) Third Eye Blind (If Red Mountain continues the trend of having a couple 90's nostalgia acts) Black Crowes (yes again) Portugal. The Man. AWOLNATION (Sorry, but yes I'm serious) The Weeks (one of the biggest crowds I've seen at the BMI stage) Franz Wild Feathers Tumbleweed Wanders (killer set on the vip stage last year) Vampire Weekend Moon Taxi (hopefully that RATM cover set is a lock)
Record time in figuring out the Hangout headliners?
I consciously fell into a daydream to fathom this. The Hangout would be taking things to the next level with this one. I truthfully believe people would lose their minds at this event. It would be a once in a life time spectacle in epic proportion without precedence. It would be one of the largest occasions of the 21st century.

Weeks was one of my favorite acts last year. I'd love to see them back on a bigger stage. also on board for Franz.
This is random but The Hives put on a great show. They'd be a nice addition to the fest. They're playing a bunch of Euro fests so may not be a possibility, but they only have one date in May (the 3rd in Belgium) and then nothing until June 26th.
I figured Jack Johnson could get the SCI/TAB treatment and get a nice long slot while the sun is setting one of the days. Maybe not a "headlining spot" but in terms of set time, just as long.
This hits the nail on the head. That could be the way to having Jack Johnson but not having him take up a headliner's main stage spot. His playing would seem to make more sense during a day-to-sunset atmosphere anyway.
I've asked myself that question before, and it mostly comes down to that their tour dates always have them taking a break before their big summer tour during Hangout.

I seriously would be all for checking him out if he played this slot. It's probably the best case scenario and I feel like that top line is not some crazy expensive line of bands that Hangout can't pull. The Killers and PJ play festivals all the time, of all sizes.

Black Crowes every year would be quite alright with me. So so good. Jackie Greene solo would be awesome because he rocks and is super sexy. 311 would be rad for the slightly stoopid slot of last year & would fill me with nostalgia from high school.
I'm trying to not get excited so I don't get dissapointed but fuck it's gonna be dope and I'm stoaked I can't keep the cynicism up I love this festival
Also, JJ Grey & Mofro would be a great get to fill that Anders spot of last year

I don't know how many times I have to tell you guys. If he's there, he's a headliner. There's no questioning it. He's way more expensive than TAB/SCI and has the status to where he could headline any fest. No shit, he doesn't deserve that, but that's the way it is.
And yes. It will be the most boring headlining set that you will ever witness. I suggest hammering the fuck out of their fb page when he's announced with comments about having an alternate set in xbox tent during JJ.

I hate it, but I can probably rule out drive by truckers. They'll be in Europe. They just announced their tour dates and not a single show in alabama :/

..per an earlier post, SCI 300k, JJ 400k.
Oh? did they have a source on those numbers or were they just pulling it out of their ass? Because JJ is easily twice as expensive as SCI or TAB. JJ pulls at least 750k for festival dates. He plays arenas, has grammy nominations, well selling albums, etc. SCI plays smaller amphitheaters, low album sales, and a typical same type of crowd that follows them for shows.

Ninja edit, because I caught you fucking up the quote program.

...for some reason I'm remembering that REM got 500k on their Monster Tour in '94/'95. ...just a reference point to 'big' bands.
