Hey, so over the years, when Hangout shares a headliner with Bonnaroo, I have always liked the Hangout show better. Is anyone with me? And is that only because Hangout comes first and Roo is just a few weeks later?

Huka said that if you work hard, you'll one day reach the paradise city on facebook today. Guns N Roses Kangfirmed for next year. I always like when longinus makes these jokes so I thought I'd try it on. Who are the reasonable HLers? I think they should do the HLers apposed again just in case I don't like one of em.
I'm guessing Neil Young/Phish/Arcade Fire for the big 5-year party, with Neil Young being the one they share with Bonnaroo. I'd love it if they went 2010 on us and got a ton of great stuff on the undercard. I'd love some world stuff like Sigur Ros, Amadou & Mariam and etc.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse may be done before Hangout, but that would be the absolute best thing that they could score.
Honestly, I wouldn't even be mad if they got GnR. If they get No Doubt, Green Day, or Jack Fvcking Johnson though I am going to flame the sh*t out of them.
I bet it's Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse) or the Boss for one of the legend acts this year. Wonder if The Killers/Muse rumors will start back. Also, wonder if they could pull Prince. Is the only fest he's played lately Coachella a few years ago? Could Hangout afford him? I thought them getting Paul Simon a few years back was pretty huge for them, and though he isn't as big a name as Prince prolly, he doesn't do festivals that often, right?

Neil Young solo would be a very weak headliner. Crazy Horse or GTFO. I saw his solo acoustic show at Mobile's Saenger Theatre in 2010 (only 2000 capacity btw) and it nearly put me to sleep.

I loved the Neil solo show at the Saenger.
Having said that, Neil solo is not a headliner. Needs Crazy Horse.
I believe they are perfectly capable of headlining, but I don't see them headlining unless the put out a new album and it does much better than Circuital. That'd be awesome if they were added to close chevy stage again though. Really curious if they're going to get feed us another big UNTZ mang next year to close chevy. I just don't see Deadmau5 playing this fest though, so that probably leaves us with Pretty Lights returning.
I think that Chevy Stage (was it Chevy or Verizon back then?) MMJ show is my favorite Hangout show ever longinus. I'd love to see that again. Hmm. My top five of all the years would be...
1. MMJ 2011 2. Trey Anastasio 2010 3. Rodrigo y Gabriela 2010 4. Edward Sharpe 2012 5. Maybe Franti as the rain stopped in 2010 or Portugal. The Man in 2011 or Big Gigantic late night in Hangout rest in 2010.
What are yours?
Don't usually do this, but worst show at Hangout ever : John Legend
I wasn't there in 2010 and blew it seeing the MMJ set in 2011.
top 5 for me though: 1. Tony Clifton (late night show) 2011 2. Ween 2011 3. Motorhead 2011 4. Gary Clark Jr (VIP grove set) 2012 5. Anders Osborne 2013
worst set: Kings of Leon (2013) ha. I didn't even watch them. listened from balcony. Seriously though. DMB sounded better the year before than that bullmess.

Ooh I want to make a list:
-Foo Fighters (2011). Real unifying moment with the large group of friends we were with -Trey (2010). Just couldn't believe Trey was playing on the beach I grew up on. -Ween (2011). Didn't think it'd be the last time I'd see them. Incredible set. -Umphreys (2013). Pre-party this year, best UM festival set I've seen. -The Roots (2011 I think? Not on the lineup, did they replace somebody, I don't remember). Crazy beach party. I was with a group of girls, most of which had only kind of heard of The Roots, and weren't really excited for the set. At my insistence we went, and everybody had a blast.

It was 2010, the first year of the fest. They were a last minute replacement for the Flaming Lips.
Considering Kanye seems to be unwelcome at Roo (by fans - who knows with organizers), and he did Coachella not too long ago, is he a potential "get" for Hangout? Personally, I don't see Yeezus translating live as well as Dark Fantasy, but there is going to be a Yeezus tour pitchfork.com/news/51219-kanye-west-will-tour-behind-yeezus/
Doubt it happens, but I'll be curious to see which festivals book Yeezus
I personally don't think that this fest will ever book Kanye West or Tool. QOTSA is not a headliner yet...Chevy stage closer.
Get ready for these headliners: ~Jack Johnson (I feel like this is inevitable too) ~Limp D*ck "Rock" Act: Black Keys, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Vampire Weekend, etc ~A Legend Act: Macca, Springsteen, Billy Joel, Elton John, Dylan, etc
I don't think Jack Johnson would have been a headliner had he been booked normally at Bonnaroo this year. Probably, what, early second line? Hangout isn't as big obviously, but if he plays, I bet it will be the Trey spot from last year. I hope this doesn't happen, too, but I think we may be spared from him headlining. I just hope it's not The Black Keys.

Jack Johnson is a headliner. Last three albums sold a shit-ton of records and you better believe that his new one will too. He is just as big, if not bigger, than Dave Matthews Band. He is not headliner worthy and shouldn't be one. But he is. I hope we don't get Black Keys either. Sick of 'em. I'll take Arcade Fire over any of those mentioned.

Arcade Fire & Vampire Weekend are "limp d*ck" rock acts?

I laft
It is a funny statement until you look at the album sale for each, specifically comparing the last 3 albums. It's very close. Also, JJ has nearly twice the number of "likes" on fb as DMB, and while that may not mean anything, it is a good marketing tool that could lead to JJ's new album selling more copies than DMB's latest one did. I think it will again be on par with DMB if not more this time.
You're kidding yourself if you think JJ won't be a headliner at any US fest next year that he plays.

I just have to say that I am so sick of old "legend" headliners. I understand they need them to sell the expensive VIP stuff, but I am so OVER the old guys. There's so much good, new stuff out there that can pack people in why do we have to keep reaching so far back? (these are rhetorical questions by the way so don't go crazy on me.)
Jack White and Foo Fighters were the best headliners for me at HO and while I get that Foos have been around a while at least they aren't from the goddamn 60s!
If we're booking NY+CH AND Arcade Fire we might as well book Springsteen and Gaslight together too. Good lord.
Sorry, in a fiesty mood today.
I'd be so down for Vampire Weekend and QOTSA.
I would love it if Hangout took a cue from some of the UK fests and brought in some new blood that isn't so small they have to play the BMI stage. I'm talking Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, Example etc... I also hope they keep up with adding hip hop again. Kendrick Lamar wasn't awesome, but he was new and different and that was cool. Hell I'd even like to see some lady rappers up there, Azealia Banks would make my day.
The turnout for Grouplove and Ellie(sp?) Goulding this year, to me ,shows that people want to see the new stuff just as much, if not more, than the old fogey stuff so I hope we head that way. It's a dream, but I stand by that dream.

The other main reason for legends is that it helps if everyone at least likes the headliner a little bit. The possible headliner pool is kind of small if you do that. Did you like what Coachella did this year discoannak ?

grouplove was one of my favorite sets of the weekend
