To echo what @chels0r said, I would be hesitant to do it if I had never been to Roo before just because you don't know what kind of shape you'll be in by Saturday morning. On the other hand, you can always sign up with the idea that you can skip it and write off the registration fee. It's not like they're going to come drag you out of your tent to come run.
I don't run, but I practiced for about a month before last years and felt I was moderately prepared... I was not. It was rough and it definitely affected the rest of my weekend. Be sure to be prepared for this if you plan on doing it.
Well, I'm training to run a marathon the last weekend of April, so the distance won't be an issue, and I'm thinking knowing that I'm running on Saturday will help temper my fun. I also am thinking I might get carried away Thursday night and keep it low key Friday. I can see that happening to me lol

I run marathons, didn't run it fast, and thought everything would be cool. Got a big headache during Lauryn Hill, had to go back to camp & rest, missed Jack White & Nick Cave, but somehow got my ass out of my tent to see Darkside. Guess I didn't get enough electrolytes, even though I know they're what plants crave.
I'm not doing this run again. I exhaust myself enough during Bonnaroo anyway.
I finished in like 29 minutes or so last year, and ended up with an enormous headache during Jack White and Frank Ocean.
However, the night before, I got stuck in that awful logjam when the wristband scanners went down after Chance the Rapper, and didn't get to camp / sleep until well after 4am. That surely cost me an hour or two of sleep.
First year, I ran it. I didnt partake in a normal Friday night (didnt drink and went to bed at a decent time) and didnt have any repercussions the rest of the weekend, but I did give up some of my Roo to make sure I didnt die Sat morning. Last year, I completely forgot to grab my bib and tshirt so I didnt run. Ill probably sign up again this year and like Dave said if I dont feel up to it Sat morning then just write off the registration fee.
I've done this the last two years and its been a great experience both times. Best thing you'll ever do on 2-4 hours of sleep followed by the absolute BEST nap you will ever take in your life. Anyone awake and on the road while your running is cheering you on throwing high fives along with the people that have already finished. Hardest part of the race is getting your ass to the starting line, everything after that is a blast. One of my favorite additions to roo over the past few years.

Good to hear! I'm 99% sure I will register. I run on the regular (although not fast, lol) so I think it would be a really cool, unique experience. If I over do it and don't finish- eh, whatever. I'll be sure to hydrate appropriately and pack my excedrin. I'm not a good sleeper on vacation, so I don't think getting up early will be a problem, and I'm looking at my Roo experience like it is my first and only, so I'd love to experience as much of it as possible. Boozy brunch on Friday morning, run on Saturday morning, farris wheel, water slide- I'd like to try it all out!
Side note- the shirts for Roo run are just a standard t-shirt right? Not a tech shirt?
I stayed up for Skrillex last year, and ran the next morning. It's not terrible, folks. They had water on the course. And, it's not like you have to go all out and win.
Now, if you do win, you might just get tickets to 2016 for free. Ain't nuttin' wrong with that.
But, I go to see the whole farm. The folks in costume. It's a good time. And, even an old slow guy like me finishes fast enough to get a ribbon.
The t-shirt is 100% cotton. Not a tech shirt. Nor should it be. It's the Roo Run.

This asshole runs marathons. He can't be trusted.
"Runs" is a debatable word. I prefer "participates."
And altrunner said they are training for one in April, too.
It's a fun time but HOTTER THAN HELL due to the 9:00am start. It had to have been close to 90 degrees the first year. The start is way over by the highway tollbooths which is a long walk for just about everyone participating (especially for the folks like me in Pod 1). The course does a figure eight route around the farm going as far away as Pod 9 and some the dirt roads can be a bit rough if you are used to running on pavement or sidewalks.
If anyone is thinking about trying to win, the winning times for the first two years have been sub 19 mins. I believe only the top 100 finishers get a ribbon. The costumes last year where great with the elephant nabbing the prize.

Anybody else going to participate this year?
I have never before ran a 5k. For the better part of the last four years, I have spent my days being fat and lazy. I have been on a fitness craze the past four months and have been changing my life for the better (Shoutout to the weight loss and diet-bet threads!). I really REALLY want to challenge myself to complete this. Like I've had dreams of me at the finish line. I don't anticipate I'll finish in time for a ribbon-- but I have GOT to try,
I haven't seen any details posted on bonnaroo.com yet but while I was buying tickets to the BonnaROOTS dinner I realized they are collecting payment over at bonnaroospecialevents.shop.ticketstoday.com/ . I suspect details will be announced soon

Who's with me?
I'll be there this year. Was thinking about it last year, but this year I am definitely doing it. Last year I was camped very close to the start, hope thats the case again
maybe they'll have some cool giveaways during the run this year with GNC. I ran the first year and got a ribbon, last year I was too drunk to actually run but I did register. Let's hope for somewhere in-between this time around.
In theory I'd like to do the Roo Run, but Roo isn't a place where I want to be zapped of energy. I am, however, inappropriately excited about the fact that GNC will be giving out samples of protein shakes. #brolife
