OK help please all you fitness people-- I can jog about 2/3 comfortably right now. I have to split that into two segments of jogging. I push myself and push myself, and I do get better every time.
1) If I keep training and keep pushing myself (2-3 times per week), can I be ready to jog the entire thing by the time Roo comes around?
2) Others have told me that while I may seem to bottom out while training, the adrenaline and excitement will help me finish on the farm. How true is that?
3) What is a "good time" for finishing?
Bottom line: I don't want to be the embarrassing fat kid that finishes behind everyone. I recognize I prolly won't get a ribbon, but I want to finish and I want to try my hardest darnit.

Here's the thing about racing vs just running.... you will do whatever you can mentally to keep up with the crowd. no one likes last place, but it happens. My 2nd half marathon for example, the chick in last place, it was her first half marathon so I let her pass me and took last for her so she wouldn't be discouraged. My sister's first 5k, she was in last placed behind 2 women with a stroller and a dog, and she was like 'fuck no, this isn't happening' and managed to run the last leg of the race to not come in last.
Moral of the story, you can do it. If you can run at all, you can do it. Idk if this is just for fun or if there's a time limit. All 5k's i've ever ran were an hour long time frame and most runners do it in under 30 minutes but I was always in the 40 minute range. In a race setting, just pace yourself. Run/Walk is acceptable usually, but idk about the roo 5k. Maybe someone else can answer that.
If you wanna build up speed, endurance, etc... fartlek. Basically, pick an object on your run and don't stop running til you get there. Take a walk break. Find another object and repeat. It makes the run more fun.
And if you're training for this roo 5k, make sure to do it in the hottest part of the day so you can adjust to running in that extreme heat BAHAHAH.

1) If I keep training and keep pushing myself (2-3 times per week), can I be ready to jog the entire thing by the time Roo comes around? If you can already jog 2/3 you should be fine. I do VERY little physical activity. (darts and dodgeball for the most part)and the roo run has never been overwhelming
2) Others have told me that while I may seem to bottom out while training, the adrenaline and excitement will help me finish on the farm. How true is that? as tired as you'll be the home stretch and everyone cheering you on will get you to the finish line. atleast that's what gets me to sprint out the last leg and promptly vom when I stop {BLAAAHH} 3) What is a "good time" for finishing? this I am not sure. I have yet to win a medal so my times have clearly not been good enough. I think I finished just under 30 mins each year maybe like 25-28

my motto about running .... "first mile is the hardest" and anything after 3 miles is just muscle memory bc after 3 miles, it's all a mental challenge anyway.
I don't currently run bc running induced migraines, but I do love talking about running bc I miss it. Really bad.
when is the race? I might make a sign and cheer yall on. I do love race signs!!

"Spectators can kick it however you like. From flip-flops to aquasocks, wear whatever you need to rise and shine to a new day on The Farm. We’ll be handing out prizes to fast runners, slow walkers and the funkiest-dressed early-rising Bonnaroovians in sight."
Prizes for slow people! Hooray now I don't feel so pressured to do it in 30 min. Still gonna try for that though
Course is a bit different from last year. Not a figure 8 (thank god), doesn't stray into Pod 8, which I believe it did last year. Water stops are every 3/4 of a mile, which isn't bad. I don't expect they'll have Gatorade though, which would be nice.

So, I'm a pretty serious runner and am contemplating this race. I just had a 5k last weekend and finished in 20:51. Though with Roo, it's a completely different monster. Especially since I'll be up late with RTJ and MMSW and certainly imbibing. I don't want to hurt myself, but thought I read somewhere that the winner gets tickets for next year, is that right or totally bogus? It would be really cool to see the farm that way though.

For the first two Roo Runs, the winner received two tickets for the next year's festival. That's certainly subject to change. I think the winning time has been at least sub 19:00 each year.
