how do they go about searching RVs, particularly pop-up campers? I have nothing to hide (except maybe some glow sticks :-) ) but if I have to pop my pain in the ass camper up an extra time for them to search, i'll be kinda irked!
I am wondering the same thing. Does anybody have experience with this?
Just doesn't make sense. This is why you have to screen the person, not the car.
That's called "profiling." And if you let dunderheaded country police do that, you'd all be complaining that they pulled over anyone with long hair or dark skin.
Having a "young & innocent" face, I don't mind profiling.
I am making a f*ck-ton of jello shots. I'm bringing them to the brunch and sharing them with my camp group. There should not be more booze in them than is allowed for my hubby and me, but I can't exactly prove that being that they are pre-made and... you know, cups of jello. Do you think this is going to be an issue when I come in?
If they search, they will see two coolers that look like this:
Edit: There will also be bacon. My photo shopping skills aren't that rad though.
If asked, "they're not for sale" and "they're for the Bonnaroo forum brunch."
If pressed, "you should come to brunch if you're not working."
I do not see selling jello shots as a lucrative venture.
Um... I'm pretty bland looking (pale skin, blue eyes, blonde hair). People always tell me they are surprised I cuss like a sailor because I look so "innocent." But... I kind of dyed the bottom half of my hair pink since last year. Should I wear a bandana when going through the tollbooths or will the bandana be conspicuous? I don't know what to do, but I really don't want to deal with an hour-long search!
Be calm. Just yourself. That is the best shot you will have.
This is clearly stereotypical, correct me if I'm wrong and I don't mean to offend anyone, but I bet if we had the pure statistics on this subject guys get searched 2:1 more often.

This is one of three times in my life I am grateful to have a vajayjay.
Relax everyone this is not anything we weren't expecting, or shouldn't be anyways, take adequate precautions. We all knew there was the possibility of a random search by the police before this came out. This is nothing new.
Bnnaroo brings in a lot of money. They know people come to bonnaroo to party. No one wants to kill the golden goose.

Interesting highlights, "“Our officers will be looking for items other than drugs. They will be looking for items used to manufacture explosives,” stated Graves, adding that the department’s 23 reserve deputies would be assisting in the search process. “ People should expect a little longer wait this year … we will do the best we can.”
"One security enhancement this year is a separate search line for anyone carrying a backpack."
"“Searches will be a little more intense this year,” said Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves. “Last year if traffic backed up they kind of gave way on the searches and rushed them in.”

What are the other two times?
Wearing a skirt when it's hot and waiting at a crowded bar for the bartender's attention. The rest of the time its a crapshoot (literally, depending on how you feel about children).

One security enhancement this year is a separate search line for anyone carrying a backpack.
“This will allow our search teams to be more focused,” stated Farman.
When cars enter the festival grounds they will either be searched by Bonnaroo security or deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department.

Separate line for backpacks?
Longer wait to enter the main gates?
Oh boy. I'm already annoyed.
I think the separate line for backpacks could be good . Longer wait to enter the main gates would suck though.

They pretty much tossed every backpack at Hangout. This is likely going to be a reality now for larger fests due to the time in which we live. I didn't put much in my backpack at Hangout and the search moved quickly.

I think they got it backwards. I feel like there's way more people with backpacks on in Centeroo than without. There should be a separate line for the people without backpacks since there are fewer of them.
Will camelbacks be welcome, they are backpacks aren't they?
I was wondering the same thing. The new back packers line wont effect me, I just stuff a few bottles waters in my cargo shorts I hate wearing a backpack. Staying in TO means it's super easy for me to go back to camp and get more supplies so no need to carry a bunch in. It does kinda suck for people who rely on having a back pack. I still think they got it backwards, the majority of lines should be for folks w/ backpacks and a dedicated line for people w/out. I don't really understand why a separate line is needed anyway. Just let people know all searches are going to be taken a little more seriously than in years past. No need to set up and extra que. Oh well. Nothing posted in this thread has me any more concerned than I would be any other year. Just gotta remember to leave the C4 at home.
EDIT: Oh! And fireworks! You might want to just pass on by those fireworks mega stores on your way in. Just saying.

Has anyone ever had their coolers confiscated because they couldn't search it bc it was frozen over? I got a deal on dry ice and gonna flash freeze my steaks and pork chops, along with the whole cooler. That way I never have to worry about ice but don't want to do it if they gonna take it.

I seriously doubt it. In 2010 we f*cked up with our dry ice and by the time we got to bonnaroo it was just one solid block of ice in the cooler. No issues were had. I think you'll be good to go.

Yeah, I think you would be good just because their main concern in coolers is glass, and they would probably assume nobody would freeze glass bottles solid.
It's hard to tell from this exactly how much more thorough the searches will be, either at the gates or the entrances to Centeroo. There tends to be a pretty big X factor in who's doing the searching (and in who's getting searched). I only started going to Roo in '08, but searches have gotten far more intense just in the few years since.
Last year, my group's RV was barely searched going into the farm, but our friends in the companion vehicle had their entire vehicle torn to pieces (everyone was squeaky clean, for the record). Going into Centeroo could be a total crapshoot, too - it ranged from a very quick patdown of my pockets to some guy who spent over five minutes examining every single nook and cranny of my Camelbak. From the sound of it, it seems like they're trying to make the intensity of the searches more uniform.
This is just a bit of a sore spot. I used to live in Boston, I've run the Boston Marathon, and some very good friends of mine almost got killed in that bombing -- they were standing on that very spot about ten minutes before the bomb went off, but one of the kids got cranky and they decided to leave.
Anyway, I've been asked about hammers a couple of times.
I spent over 12 years calling Boston my home and had half a dozen friends within 50 feet of the blast, so this is a pretty emotionally-charged topic for me, too.
If it's for security purposes only, that's one thing. What I worry about is the risk of people abusing the system and conducting far more thorough searches for druqs under the pretense of simply looking for weapons and explosives. I know Roo is a cash cow for Coffee County and most people wouldn't want to jeopardize the future of the fest, but all it takes is an extra handful or two of over-zealous officers looking for a bust for some very bad word of mouth to start spreading.
By the way, if I do tent camping, I always bring a hammer to drive in / pull up my tent stakes. I never even considered this might be an issue until now.

Sort of along the same line, I was on the Rt. 55 last year heading into Manchester (from McMinnville). The van was loaded down and had some Roo slogan on the window. I'm going exactly the speed limit since I know the cops are pulling people for revenue. All of a sudden there are three unmarked cars pulling us over. Out comes the drug sniffing dog for a full search of the van. I'm sure they were disappointed that there was not a single thing to find. I was probably the ONLY van headed to Bonnaroo that was clean and they were left with nothing to show for that stop So, be careful driving into Manchester as well. You don't want to start your Roo week with a ticket or worse!

The Roo slogan is what got you pulled over. You looked a little TOOOOOO excited!
I am ok with this. I never bring in anything I am not supposed to anyway. I also have to think the Boston Bombing might have something to do with this. I am more than happy to wait a little longer and have them search my car if it makes me more safe
as far I'm concerned it's been a 50/50 crap shoot, in 7 years I've been always searched ( never on the interstate) which is a whole different set of rules, but my advice has always been if you're gonna break the law ....make it only one thing, now for Bonnaroo law, 2011 "they" tore my RV apart, I think S.W.A.T. came in, sure enough, but my coffee pot was not taken, thank goodness..., but always have a back-up plan, I have a lot of stuff, gas, hammers, propane, 124 lighters, 6 cell phones, 12 steak knives, some blue shiz you put in the toilet, just go with the flow, be smart, this old world ain't what it used to be... don't get me started, I could tell you some stories..
