THESE ARE NOT THE BRIGHTEST BULBS ON THE TREE. This was February this year. A 65-year-old woman was pulled over by police officers while driving through Tennessee after the officers mistook her car's Buckeye stickers — those commonly seen on the helmets of Ohio State football players — for a marijuana symbol. "It's just amazing they would be that dumb," said Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni, which pretty much sums up this entire story. Boggioni and her husband, Giorgio Boggioni, 66, of Plano, Texas, were driving home through Tennessee from Columbus, Ohio, where they had attended a funeral for Jonas-Boggioni's mother. The two were pulled over a few miles east of Memphis, along I-40, and were greeted by a pair of black SUVs containing officers wearing "body armor and guns," Jonas-Boggioni told Joe Blundo of The Columbus Dispatch."What are you doing with a marijuana sticker on your bumper?" one of the officers asked. That led Jonas-Boggioni and her husband to explain the meaning of the Ohio State sticker, which is given as a reward to OSU players. To help the puzzled officers connect the dots, Boggioni stepped out of the car to show his 2002 national-championship sweatshirt, one "complete with a Buckeye leaf," Blundo wrote. Chagrined, the officers excused the unwarranted stop by explaining that an officer in another jurisdiction had called in a report of the Boggionis' sticker — believing the older couple to be at the forefront of some sort of massive marijuana ring, it seems. "Police hunting druqs should know that a Buckeye leaf — which has five leaflets -doesn't look much like a marijuana leaf, which typically has seven leaflets and a narrower shape," Jones-Boggioni told Blundo. Well, duh. Before letting the pair off, officers told the couple that they should remove the Ohio State sticker from their car. "I said, 'You mean in Tennessee?" Jones-Boggioni said. "No, permanently, to avoid any further confusion." the officers replied. No chance. Have you ever met an Ohio State fan? "I didn't take it off," Jones-Boggioni told Blundo. "This little old lady is no d dealer."

i have gone almost every single year. never once been stopped, or searched. the most that has ever happened is they asked to pop my trunk and took one thing out, then put it back. Almost every single time they stick their head in my car and say "have any drugs or glass on you?" and i tell them i brought a 6 pack of newcastle (or some glass container, one year it was a large bottle of jack daniels) and they shrug and draw a circle on my windshield. :knock on wood:
Ya this is just hyped up because of Boston Marathon. If anything it will spread searching resources thinner given more horizontal platitude of shiz they have to look for.
The same was supposedly true for Coachella this year. With the exception of our craptastic line, I noticed more of (what I thought was) a drug dog presence, but once I got in, found out that they were bomb sniffing dogs since the Boston thang was so much more recent.
There's no way they can take down every car to the extent that the Coffee County cops (or actual cops at other festivals) do, otherwise there'd be no way they could get everybody in, even by Friday morning. And then we'd have a riot on our hands. . .
This will be my 4th year. I always have a female drive as I feel they are less likely to be searched. This year I am with 5 girls and me . We have never been "searched" usually just questioned. We have also never been pulled over, follow all driving laws and don't decorate car. I always say try not to look at or make eye contact with the police on the side of the road and just talk amongst yourselves and have a good time. They are probably looking for people who are looking over at them and looking nervous. But, a question to anyone who has been searched. If they find something you aren't supposed to have, not glass, we never bring that, but other things. Do they just take it? Do you get in trouble? Prevented from entering?
This thread has got me feeling that I have been very lucky on our searches so far. And I do greatly dislike the fact that this may increase wait time. I have had to wait for 6-10hrs, and that is plenty long enough.

How do the searches work in line with medications? I had a MAJOR surgery in August, and I have to take roughly 15 pills a day now. Will these cause an issue?

Make sure you bring them in the prescription bottles and the name on the front equals the name on your ID.
Edit: plus, make sure the pills in the bottles match the drug name on the bottles.

Easy enough, thanks y'all. I have a doc appt on Tuesday anyway, so I'll make him write me a note JUUUST in case.
Sort of along the same line, I was on the Rt. 55 last year heading into Manchester (from McMinnville). The van was loaded down and had some Roo slogan on the window. I'm going exactly the speed limit since I know the cops are pulling people for revenue. All of a sudden there are three unmarked cars pulling us over. Out comes the d sniffing dog for a full search of the van. I'm sure they were disappointed that there was not a single thing to find. I was probably the ONLY van headed to Bonnaroo that was clean and they were left with nothing to show for that stop So, be careful driving into Manchester as well. You don't want to start your Roo week with a ticket or worse!
Mistake number 1 - Driving through McMinnville, TN. JUST DON'T DO IT PEOPLE!!
I'm volunteering in the Tollbooths this year and we got our general orientation videos last night. As far as what to bring in and what not to, it just says to refer to the Entry page on the Bonnaroo website. I doubt they're going to add anything on there and make us take away everyones hammers (and our own since we get searched as well). As for the cops, your guess is as good as mine.

I have a black car with 18in rims and tented windows. Never been stopped. I drive the speed limit. Roll all my windows down and I usually play music that diverts attention like Sting or Queen. When I see cops and they are directing traffic I smile and wave and wish them a good day. Nothing to worry about. If you act like you have something to hide then they can usually tell.

Would the heat have an adverse effect on any meds and their storage? Just thinking out loud. LoveLuckLaughter or @zenfnp may know.
I think it's really dependent on the medicine. I've never had any issues with mine, but I carry the bottle with me so it's never in a hot car or anything. Purely anecdotal, and I'm by no means a pharmacist.
I'm sorry. I clearly missed something. Why was that picture witty and hilarious?
Look your just a grouch taking something meant to be in jest serious. I was just having a funzie and I'm a libertarian at heart. The jest part comes in to play because of the ironic connotations of the the picture where a small homemade item is compared to serious things that do need to be registered like guns. That ironic overreach creates a funny because the innuendo suggests the government should monitor and check everything regardless of rights. This is a thread about increased searches. If that makes you hate on me I really could careless.
Yesterday it comes out the NSA has been tapping into everything for 7 years including chat, pictures, phone records, emails all warrent-less. Passed under a glorious leader named Bush Jr. and renewed under another glorious leader Obama in 2012 the wonderful Patriot Act has provided us with security for a decade.
Now I hope that at least explains the purpose of that post. There is no need to hi-jack this now tho and begin a debate about any of this. We are SO CLOSE TO ROO! Less hating more loving.

the recommendation is typically to store most meds at room temp. heat and moisture can affect them (which is why you shouldn't store them in the bathroom)- from what I understand possibly causing some degradation as to quality, but wouldn't make them dangerous or completely ineffective. I would think if you carried them in your backpack they'd probably be ok, but I wouldn't leave them in a car with trapped heat. I'm a nurse and former pharmacy tech but also not an expert. if they are maintenance meds for major conditions like cardiac, thyroid, or diabetes I would probably check with a pharmacist. but otherwise, they are normally shipped in packing totes on regular trucks, so I think a few days should be fine. my $0.02

I've stayed in, and driven through, McMinnville every day of all 8 Roos I have attended, and I have never been stopped for any reason. My car and I are pretty nondescript, though.
Maybe paint some slogans about agricultural nurseries instead of Roo blasts?

The only time I got the police search was in 2011. I was with my wife (then girlfriend) and had prepared her for a long wait in line as I was used to. We came in Thursday midday at the interstate tollbooths and were shocked to see no line at all. The police were sitting on the side with nothing to do, so they waved us on over and proceeded to search everything. They were done in 5 minutes, and we didn't have anything we shouldn't, but it was still a nerve-wracking experience. They wrote a big DTF (NO NO WORD Task Force) on our car, which got a lot of Jersey Shore jokes all weekend, much to our chagrin.
I'm sorry. I clearly missed something. Why was that picture witty and hilarious?

That's called "profiling." And if you let dunderheaded country police do that, you'd all be complaining that they pulled over anyone with long hair or dark skin.
Having a "young & innocent" face, I don't mind profiling.
^^^ I look like I'm 12 and I've never gotten hassled. back in my wild and crazy days, I talked my way out of so many tickets. I was pulled over once for driving at night without headlights when I was 16. I had ingested a substance beginning with the letter k so my eyes were probably all pupil. however, the cop let me go with a friendly verbal warning... also, once I was pulled over for suspicion of DUI due to the fact that I was dancing while driving (seriously, that is what the officer said). I actually was under the influence but when the cop came up to the car he never even made me get out.
it's definitely not a fair system. also, I was incredibly stupid and would never do any of those things now, but it's amazing how much I got away with just because I looked really innocent.
but seriously, even if you're not young and female, just don't take the risk. yes, a baseless time-consuming search would be frustrating, but one that resulted in fines and/or charges would be way worse. IMO
I'm sorry. I clearly missed something. Why was that picture witty and hilarious?

I just fail to see what's so hilarious about getting your limbs blown off by a homemade nom, or getting shot by a mentally disturbed stranger, which are the two things that that picture referenced. You're treating serious issues, that are only tangentially related to this thread, like a child and yea that makes me think you're an idiot. The only irony is that one of those kids actually was on a watch list and background checks might have actually prevented the bombing.
But you're right, no need to hijack the thread. By all means go back to giving inaccurate legal advice. That's the true spirit of Bonnaroo. F.ck the man and what not.

"Funzie" "innuendo" "ironic"
"national disaster"
"security state" "no rights" "poignant versions of reality" "national disgrace"

Ironic rhetoric has been used pre-shakespear in cartoons, plays and poems to demonstrate corrupt power. It is a medium that is very effective in general. Now, I pose to you. Can you in some way challenge this level of police state in ironic tone and not have a victim at the end of it? I'll tell you now logically it is impossible. I can give you many examples but I'll let you ponder on it a moment.
There were 652 of these bombings in Pakistan alone last year. Yet this one attack will rage in your mind infinitely more because it is here and now. Due to that visceral reaciton like this that you are experiencing now policy will be shaped and passed in the wake to ensure this doesn't happen again. In those moments of fear policies will rally, much like 2/3rds of the country at the time of Bush Jr. passing the Patriot Act. Now it has less then a 40% approval rating. Sorry the little picture left such bad connotations in your cerebral cortex. Don't mistake my compassion to those injured and suffering to me standing up and saying this nation has turned into an absolute police state. The suppressing of rhetoric talking about rights in the name of those injured does no justification for my future children.
And inaccurate legal advice!?? Let me be clear I give NO legal advice in this thread. I already know you are a lawyer. Well, little secret... SO AM I! I will also say letters behind names after being in this industry so long does LITTLE to impress me and nor should it you.

Apologies about the legal advice crack. That tends to come out in threads like this which is part of the reason I have no problem derailing it. If you were not involved, I apologize. My objection to everything else stands.
