I realized last night that I literally have zero patience left. every human being is a moron and every little thing annoys the piss out of me. can't wait to move on because it has made me a seriously angry person.
I picked these exact ones because they are all calls I've basically had to some varying degree.....
When I worked for the police, they got a call about a home invasion. They asked what was taken. The guy responded, "my weed." They sent an officer.
I didn't know you worked for the police at one point too. What did you do there?
I did data analysis for them. Mostly, it was looking at reports and maps and trying to find larger patterns across the city. I also generated maps, created bulletins for wanted people and worked with the juvenile justice system regarding their list of repeat juvenile offenders. To nobody's surprise, I was the "token liberal" for the department while I was there.

Drug dealers can be robbed too, Dave! I've had a call where a prostitute called to inform us that a customer refused to pay. She waited outside the hotel room door he was in so that we could "Get her money that was due to her for her services". She tried to class it up, but she's still a prostitute in a shitty area of Columbus.

True but usually they're not dumb enough to tell the police about the drugs that got stolen. Just focus on the money.

"So what've you got for us, Dave?"
"Well, after plotting out these these violent offenses and cross-referencing it with median income on each block, it appears that there are much higher concentrations of violent crime in low-income areas."
"So in other words, it's the same old song and dance?"
"I don't dance, sir."
"That certainly appears to be the case. What do you propose we do about this?"
"Well, I also noticed that there were a disproportionate amount of non-violent drug offenses in that area as well. I was thinking that instead of focusing on these non-violent crimes, we could have the force shift the priority towards violent offenders."
"And where's the money in that, Dave?"
"Well, there might not exactly be more money in it, but the people will be happier to see violent crime go down, and it would make the streets safer for everyone."

I decided to switch shifts at my work. Instead of working 10 hours a day Mon through Thurs, I'm now doing 12's on Fri-Sat-Sun. I bought a house, which is going to increase my commute from 25 to 40 minutes. I also am trying to get (and hide from my current job) an internship in the field I been going to school for, which switching to weekends was all but needed.
I'm not thrilled about the switch, but what's done was needed to be done. Also, I'm bummed I wasn't able to switch departments as well - since I'm completely bored with what I'm doing now.

Congrats on the house, sir. I didn't know you two had picked one out. The work schedule could be rough, but I'd say you'll be fine when you get to balance it against an internship somewhere you actually enjoy and getting to cohabitate with the lady.

We don't close on it until the 20th, and probably won't be moving into it until early August.

Considering how long you two have been working on this, I bet the amount of relief you feel is pretty amazing even if it's a month away.

Does the work change involve a pay cut? What are you trying to get an internship in?

There's a shift differential, where 40D = 36W. D is the pay rate I have on the Mon-Thurs shift, W is the pay rate on weekends.
My concern is in the slow season, where my building has closed early due to lack of work.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how people at a work function can take casual clothes and still make them look like a work uniform. Some people just don't know how to relax.
Why do some frozen/microwaved lunches smell SO bad? WTF do they put in those things?
There should be a place where everyone with a frozen lunch can go to steep in that vile microwaved odor during lunch. It should probably be in the basement of each respective work place, far away from normal people who eat sandwhiches and salads.

It appears three people in my section (there's ten people altogether) are taking a voluntary buyout they were offered. One of the people leaving doesn't really affect me, but the other two are probably going to cause my workload to jump up significantly. I may get to be busy at work again!
I was told streaming was the problem but they only went after people with the application. There are people in my office who are big iTunes, youtube, and soundcloud abusers and they didn't get any notice. So I could do the web player but I just got the email from the Director of IT threatening all streaming activities so I don't want to push it. I'll just run it off my phone. Sad times though.
Do you know if it's because of bandwidth usage or because they just don't want people listening to music at work? If it's the former you could just download stuff at home and sideload it to your work computer.
