Why do some frozen/microwaved lunches smell SO bad? WTF do they put in those things?
There should be a place where everyone with a frozen lunch can go to steep in that vile microwaved odor during lunch. It should probably be in the basement of each respective work place, far away from normal people who eat sandwhiches and salads.
Except if you live in a place that has no basements due to being below sea level...Where do you send them, then?
Last night after work, I had to go straight to a function. Granted we got to eat and mingle, but it was for work. I had to talk about work, I got home super late and when I got to work today, found out I have to go to a fucking gala tonight for work. So, with less than a day's notice. I have to find a dress when I get home, run around and try and get ready for this function that I really don't even want to go to. My son leaves on Sunday for his thing, and we have a ton of shit to do, that now I am going to be cramming into Friday night and Saturday.
I don't like to complain about my job. I love it 90% of the time, but I just don't understand why I have to go and not the sales rep. I don't deal with these people on the daily. I had plans already to go shopping with my kid to get him ready for his trip. Plus, I am tired and want to fall asleep at my desk already. Now, it's going to be two day in a row of up past midnight for some bullshit I didn't even sign up for.
Sorry... end rant. I'm tired and bitchy and don't want to dress up and not get paid.
EDIT: My publisher just let me off the hook for this. I guess the super tired sleeping at my desk, and threatening to not come into work on Friday so I could sleep worked. Plus, she doesn't want to go either, so that helped. Thank god!
Working 16 hours today, then I have an 8-hour turnaround into a 12 hour shift. Oh, and I slept for a whopping 6 hours last night and I've been up since 9:30am (that means when I get off work I will have been up for 26 hours). Fml.

we have custom made fortune cookies that we are well known for and say shit like:
"you will gain national notoriety - on the TV show intervention." "when was your last STD screening anyway?" "'horny and desperate' may not be a great look. but it's your look. own it."
couple celebrating 1-year anniversary writes "what a mean fortune for an anniversary celebration!! " on check. leaves 10% tip.
tells table that all food comes out & is delivered as soon as it's ready. lady rolls her eyes.
table just received other food & only 1 dish left to come out - the only dish dish that's an entree and not a small plate... I ask how they are doing so far... same eye-rolling lady doesn't have her food "K i guess...."
doing all of the ongoing sidework, such as continually washing glassware, while new coworker that everyone hates is blabbing away about a story I don't care to hear..
"what's your deal?! are you having a bad night?????" "no, I'm just sick of my fingers getting prune-y because I've been doing all of the dishes tonight" "oh okay.... so ANYWAY..."
new coworker continues blabbing while still not helping with anything ever.
I've only purchased a meal that expensive once before. I took my family out for a nice meal a few months into my first real job as a thank you for all that they've done for me.

So what did you tip?
I'm not interested in your judgments. I'm more interested in what smellycat thinks would be appropriate.
Eating out and trying new restaurants is one of our favorite activites, and we often spend $150-250 on dinner, especially if we're drinking a lot. If the service is good, I've never considered leaving less than 20%.
Why would the percentage system go out the window after a certain point? When you're planning on eating out, always factor in tip when you're deciding if you can afford a place or not.
Yup. Meals are expensive here. I regularly leave $50+ tips. The high end places often have impeccable service and the staff there are excellent. They should be compensated for their excellence.
