For an update that will make the raise more to crazykittensmile's liking, the raise is an across the board thing for people in certain job classifications. I have had to listen to someone in another section bitch about how unfair the raise is. My partner told me that they heard him yesterday say he is going to burn down some houses if a new hire comes on at the same rate as him. Someone always has to ruin good news with their salt.
I got upset when a similar thing happened here. I was 2 years into the job out of college and they changed the pay grade ranges to better match our peers. Anyone who fell outside of the range (aka brand new hires) got a decent raise. I think it was like 10%. All of a sudden I was making about the same money as the two people who started after me- I had a promotion and a better title, but the pay was about the same. I didn't say anything to anyone- I get it. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Work is so much hell that I took today off so I could do yard work and make an early morning trip to the farmer's market in peace and not being rushed.

Oh yeah. I am totally going to be in that boat dependent on how my raise breaks down. Someone coming into the position could end up making the same as me despite my 4.5 years working here. Really though, I am just happy to be looking at a minimum increase of about 8.5%. Plus, I remember that I have that experience advantage when it comes promotion time. Either way, dude can be mad but also enjoy you're getting more money and certainly realize that rambling about burning houses down just makes you look crazy.

Be happy you have raise\promotion opportunity at your job. I've never gotten one at this job and have been informed it will never happen. Editor hasn't had one in 10 years. I love my job but there's some shady bullshit my publisher pulls.
Some little girl pissed her pants last night and I had to clean it up. It was beyond gross. At least the dad pulled me aside and gave me $10 because he felt so bad.

What is your job? Curious for the sake of context!

I work at a restaurant as a host/busser.
Yeah that is WELL outside your duties. Ew! Why didn't her Dad offer to help??? I'm not a parent (yet), but I can't imagine standing by watching a stranger clean up my kid's pee.

He actually ask to help but I didn't want to put him through that. He was embarrassed enough.

My supervisor went on vacation for two weeks and left me with four orders of my coworker's to review, three of which said supervisor had had for three weeks before he left for vacation but had put off reviewing. One of those, he had actually started to review, but stopped because he couldn't figure out what to do with it, so it seems especially appropriate to leave it for me to deal with, what with me not being a supervisor and all.
A girl that has worked here for at least 3 years didn't know that bleach and degreaser are different things.
Sometimes, I'm sad for leaving when I did because I missed out (twice) on becoming a supervisor, but then I hear shit like that.
I had an employee try to give a girl a sandwich that had fallen on the floor. When I got livid he told me "no one ever taught me not to". I had to walk away before I said something I regretted.
The kicker? When I came back to talk to him, he said "Katy, I don't think you handled that well"
The office next to mine is the Dept of Labor. They don't keep regular office hours here in Greenville, so I have lots of people stop in my office looking for them. I just had a man come in my office reeking of cologne, and now I can't stop sneezing. I think I'm going to go shopping or something until the smell dissipates.
just had to completely rewrite a research / pitch document I've been working on for the last 3 weeks. sooooo today's been super stressful. fortunately, after I took a step backward to see where I was going wrong, my boss gave me 2 thumbs up. that's what I get for trying to base my writing off something else. I just need to remember to go with my gut and keep to an info flow that I think makes the most sense.

I've been watching too much kitchen nightmares lately. HOW DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND BASIC THINGS LIKE THAT?!

Can you fire him? Or will you need to spend a whole day going over every possible 100%-common-sense scenario with him?

you're working for a creative and innovative company. you're so hard-working and smart, and they picked you for this internship for a reason. i hope that the issues with your coworker don't make you re-evaluate what you're doing. hang in there, gal. you got this!

My office takes all the boxes from deliveries and such to the back and piles them until some services comes by to take them off for recycling. I needed a few, so I checked to make sure it was okay to grab some. I got the go ahead, but I still had this running through my head on loop when I was taking them to my car.

Crazy bagel lady used to keep fresh lettuce on the floor of the walk-in cooler. It was in a box, but that was it. Ready to eat food was on the bottom of the shelving in the same cooler. i refuse to eat there after seeing the state of that cooler. It never got mopped. The grossness is endless.
I think if Gordon Ramsay walked in there he would invent a whole new set of swears to describe her and her food handling practices.

That's disgusting
I wish I could say that was the worst of it. The state health inspector passed her though. So that means everything is perfect!
As much as I hate being back in the nursing home kitchen, I do take solace in knowing that our health inspections are thorough, we get judged on every little detail. Restaurants have it easy, at least in my county.
