Too much fucking about. Too many rants. Not enough Yeezus stuff. Definitely not the Yeezus stage show. When it was good ie Jesus Walks it was great but side screens weren't on and very little variation in the stage show. Didn't kick off with on sight as he has been doing, no gold digger, I am a god, dark fantasy, homecoming, as per recent shows
Top 3 show for me before the fest and I've left very disappointed.
I was at Glastonbury in 08 when Jay Z was the first rapper to headline and that went down in history. Tonight, just won't.
when i went and saw him on the regular yeezus tour, he ranted a lot as well, so i'm not sure that is specific to bonnaroo tbh. he obviously didn't talk about bonnaroo in his rants while at this show but he did several 10 min ones throughout the set.

The shit that I took after kanye was the best part of kanye and I was in the fucking pit, what a joke. Thought he was fucking with us but he's really really batshit insane... Horrible performance.
The Kanye-haters will never be happy because they don't understand him. He did an outstanding job even if his rant was unnecessarily long. What rapper doesn't claim to be the top of his game? Or the best? I want my favorite musicians to aspire to be the best. Marginal music is pop music. He also was telling the crowd that the press (not the fans) was to blame for the Kanye/Bonnaroo hate.
The crowd was very into it except for the few people just there spectating. Those people aren't real Kanye fans to begin with... if you don't like him, don't go. #radiatepositivity
The Kanye-hating is a tired fad at Bonnaroo. Aside from the rant/explanation, he was on the top of his game when he was actually performing.
I did not attend the show but i did notice thousands of people leaving the what stage area about halfway into his set, i thought he was over, but upon walking closer he was still playing. i've never seen anyone leave a headliner like that, it was crazy.
About to go to bed... I was in the pit, thought it was absolutely AMAZING! Everyone around me was going insane over it. I had such a good time I don't even care to hear the naysayers.
And he was 7 minutes late, and ended 10 early, don't believe the above report. Ending a bit early was a blessing honestly as it allowed time to get to the late night tents.
I'm a fan of Kanye but his show was pretty meh. It seemed short and I lost interest after that almost 20 minute long rant about Walt Disney and Pearl Jam

Yeah it can get to the point where it's pretty awkward. But it must've just depended on the crowd you were around. The pit was so high energy it was hard not to have a blast.

fantastic set. there was always at least one dude screaming "gay fish" or "fuck kanye" or "play your happy songs" no matter where you went, but when the crowd's turn to sing came, everyone in that motherfucker knew the lyrics.
the basic gist of the rants: the press makes kanye look like a maniac. this is because corporations are scared of kanye (oprah told him this). kanye will never play the super bowl until he is really old. why are corporations scared of kanye? because he tells the kids the truth. kanye is not bruno mars singing love songs at the superbowl. flashback to his last bonnaroo performance: it was six months after his mother died, pearl jam ran late, it took forever to setup the stage, someone drained his gases and shit he needed for the show, and graffitti'd "fuck kanye" over all his tanks and whatnot. but kanye isn't striving to beat whoever is on the radio now. he's not trying to be better than anybody who is living. he is trying to be a (and he knows people get mad when he compares himself to great people) henry ford, a walt disney, a elon musk (even though elon musk is alive and is kanye's boy) etc. conclusion: if you are a fan of kanye you are a fan of yourself. believe in yourself and you can do anything. fuck the press.
it was an electrifying show, rants and all. would see again.
boos and fuck Kanye chants before he even took the stage.
Bonnaroo should be embarrassed.
"top of your game" means you act like a professional. Do you get pissed when an actor mails in a performance that you paid money to see at the theater? A professional never takes a night off. A professional reads his audience and plays for them, not to his own over inflated ego. Him comparing himself to hendrix, hughes, or disney is insulting to those men's careers. They changed the status quo in their fields, all he did was play to the stereotypes of what the general public thinks rappers are. No class with this guy, and very disconnected from reality

kanye changed hip hop forever. if he is not a legendary hip hop producer i don't know who is.
i personally found all his rants genuinely inspiring. made me want to run home and start kicking serious ass at work.
The rant happens during every Kanye show, and it's awesome. Sounds like it was an excellent show, and those with pre-conceived notions weren't open to redemption.

I didn't even have to be there to know you're a complete idiot.
The show last night is a general reflection of Kanye. If you like him, you liked the show. If you do not like him, you did not like the show. It also made a huge difference where you were standing. They did not use the video boards. If you were not in the front third of the field, it would of been very hard to see much. I was right in front of the production boards, so I had a good view of everything. Phoenix was standing right behind me most of the show after they finished their set, and Kim Khardashian was also at the boards with some VIPs.
I am not a big Kanye fan but like some of his songs. The show, in my opinion, was good but not great. I was expecting some rants from Kanye, so they did not bother me. If you did not take it serious, some of them were pretty humorous. The production value and sound was good. My biggest complaint was the over use of auto-tune. Any time Kanye sang, they were using it. This is a personal pet issue. For some reason auto-tune, really grinds on my ears. A lot of music on the radio I don't listen to for that reason. I also would of like to hear "Golddigger" but that is getting picky. While good, this show was no where close to the level of Jay-Z's show a few years ago.
Any speculation that the lack of screens might not have been his choice but some sort of system/power failure? As for the Bonnaroo light over What, I can't imagine the festival giving permission for that to be turned off.

No power failure, everything was just wrapped up for the night after Vampire Weekend.
Kanye's performance was fine. He should have been more considerate of the people in the back of the giant field and turned on the video screens. I didn't even know he had a band onstage until I saw pictures later. I was there in 2008 and this show was 100x better.

Must you be so nasty? He was posting a personal opinion about a professional music artist's performance in reasonably articulate manner. Why resort to personal attacks?

My experience was front half of crowd was into it and loving it. Singing along and going nuts. Back half of the crowd were the hecklers and people just hanging. Felt similar to Eminem's crowd.

I think that was just how his show was set up. Doubt it was any power issues. I think he wanted the focus on his screen with his camera as part of the setup.

Do you actually know anything about Howard Hughes or Walt Disney, or do you just traffic in uninformed drivel
