I would never show up to boo a band. It would have to be something epic to cause me to do that.
I did not go and see Mr. West, my fear was that part of the audience would be there to boo, this might lead to several things which I had no wish to be a part of.
I know there was a lot of hostility towards Kanye for his personality. Picked that up on Friday morning. I was thoroughly surprised at the number of people in centroo during his set.
The main complaints I heard were about his talking. One girl said, "I know he thinks he is Gods gift to... well everything. This is a music festival, I came to hear you sing, not give yourself a one hour hand job."
End quote.
If being a raging dick is part of your "act" I think you would get more fans if you sang your music and shut the hell up. All of his rants were about himself and how much respect he deserves.
My dad taught me that talk is cheap, go and prove it. Kanye, from what everyone said, did not prove himself the best rock star on the planet. He isn't hendrix or the Beatles. He is Kanye West, if that means something, it will mean it whether you talk about it or not.
I sure wasn't hearing people walking around talking about how great Kanye was, but I heard a lot of "who the hell does he think he is" kind of talk
Nah, I'm really not the kinda girl that punches my way through a crowd. I like to be able to enjoy my music from the back where I have space to lay out, honestly. I just feel like this happens at every concert, it's going to happen at every concert, and there's really not too much anyone can do about it. I can feel your frustration; There are some shows I'd love to be in the front for, but I am able to enjoy it from the back of the crowd or the front. Not dealing with the people spilling beer and punching me in the back of the head is pretty dope. I just feel like there's some things you can't change about concerts and the crowds - especially depending on what artist is performing. C'mon, though. It's just going to happen.
Or you can do something about it and get them kicked out like I did along with the people who were waiting in line for 10 hours with me.
To each his own. I'm not saying don't do it. There are a lot of people who don't deserve to be wherever they end up after being the dancing dickholes who force their way in front of people who truly love the artists when those people themselves only know the one or two major hits. If I see a wide open path that leads to a wide open spot that's a little bit closer, I'd probably take it, too. They're just trying to have a good time too, they just don't understand how inconsiderate and obnoxious they appear in the manner they do it. I try to remind myself that everyone's there for the same reason, whether they were there 10 hours early or an hour late. Everyone deserves to see the artists they wanna see. As long as you aren't physically harming anyone or being insanely distracting during the show.. Do what you're gonna do. Most of them will learn their lessons in time. Seems like Bonnaroo drew in a pretty young crowd this year.. they just gosta wise up.

Can people like this who clearly can't comprehend anything get out of here?

Do you know what the pit is and how the line works?

What is it I'm not comprehending?
Did he come out bitching about how much respect he deserves or not?
If so, why is it not a valid opinion to say he should stop that?

He's not being a raging dick, nor how he deserves respect, his main point was that we can all achieve greatness and he wants to do everything he can to help us.

I hope this negative attitude does not carry over all the way to June.
While digging through idiotic old posts in this thread I found this, and it makes me sad.
It makes me sad, too.
I enjoyed this set immensely, even though I had to almost die to get in the pit.
But afterwards it was annoying to hear everyone get the message of his rants completely wrong. Hell, even itrainmonkeys has already posted a transcript of one and people are still confused about what he was saying.
The hating went all the way to the airport on the way home Monday, I ran into gardenfresh and he asked me what my favorite show was, and when I told him it was Kanye he said something along the lines of "Are you fucking serious? That was terrible".

If you say so.
Saying "look I made it big and you can to", seems a lot more motivational then "wheres the press?"

That's great that you were in the pit, but if you weren't it was pretty much fucking terrible.

Whoa. Much, much too culty for me.
I wanted to be entertained Friday night. I think Kanye is kinda a human cartoon who is not to be taken seriously, but I truly do enjoy some of this music and think he has (or at least had) talent. In fact, my husband and I spent an evening drinking and listening to Mr. West's albums after we found out we were going to 'roo again, in anticipation of something very fun.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. Listening to another mortal being rant about how great he is, and how he is greater than any other living entertainer, without any sort of action during the show to back it up, was beyond off-putting and not my idea of a rousing good time. It was petulant and unnecessary. We didn't boo, we didn't heckle, we simply shrugged our shoulders and walked back to camp.
I realize that many successful musicians throughout history have had egos, and probably most had diagnosable borderline personality disorders, but I have never seen one put on such a ridiculous display during a live performance. And I strongly disagree with those who have said he was simply expressing admiration for those he name-dropped. No, "I'm goin' after Shakespeare!" was a less than eloquent way of stating that he plans to achieve the same status in history, which is just silly talk.

Look, dude. I get it. You're sick of people bumrushing you in a crowd. Likewise, other people are sick of the people who take up space at stages during shows which they don't particularly appreciate just because they want a good spot for another artist who is playing 10 hours later.
You're being rude, and you're not radiating positivity. Nonetheless, I wish you well and hope your future concerts are less stressful than they were this past Bonnaroo.

Cutters are the worst. It's the same every year though and won't change. The fucked up thing is that cutting and rushing isn't necessary to get into headliner pits and just leads to those panic-inducing bottlenecks.
I actually did both the Vampire Weekend pit and Kanye pit without cutting. The only pit I got shut out of all weekend was Arctic Monkeys.
Guys I think we should stop arguing about this, it's over now
Amen. Shooooo, we got some aggressive, Kanye-beastin' Bonnanewbies up in here. Hope next year doesn't spark this much tension! I'm done with this ol' thread, haha. See you guys in 2015. :-)

Well if you knew what you were talking about we wouldn't be having this debate.

I made an involuntary fart noise with my mouth after reading your post.
I'm debating with my friend about the set right now and he just texted me and said, "My problem was that he got a second chance, and used the whole first half of his time to poke everyone that came to give him a shot in the eye (like me). As a paid artist, he understand the value of time; but that is one thing he clearly doesn't value of his fans. That's not art; that's business. He's a businessman first, and an artist second. Plenty of other people who don't need to disrespect a new set of fans because of what an old set made happen... he had nearly 60,000 people at his show this weekend, and left with the same number of fans he came in with. To me, that's just bad business - and bad art."
What should I say to that? All I have typed out so far is, "You're an idiot, I hate you, die in a fire, your moms hot, lose my number." Anything else I should add?

*I did, too. This thread is addictive and I know I'm not going to stop reading it. I'm just confused at this point. I wasn't trying to be a dickhole at any point in these posts. But that last one came off pretty douchely. I apologize for being douchely.
Look, dude. I get it. You're sick of people bumrushing you in a crowd.
Bumrushing must be what the kids are calling almost killing people now, silly me.
*I suppose I wasn't close enough to see how crazy it was getting towards the front. I did see people getting carried away by policemen and medics, but I can't speak for how bad it was up there. The only point I was trying to make was that, at concerts, you're almost always going to get trampled by a bunch of jerkoffs who don't know how to respect others in crowds.
