Bumrushing must be what the kids are calling almost killing people now, silly me.
*I suppose I wasn't close enough to see how crazy it was getting towards the front. I did see people getting carried away by policemen and medics, but I can't speak for how bad it was up there. The only point I was trying to make was that, at concerts, you're almost always going to get trampled by a bunch of jerkoffs who don't know how to respect others in crowds.
What are you talking about? There are easy ways to maintain the pit line that could stop this kind of activity from happening. In no way, shape, or form am I going to accept near-lethal crowd issues with an attitude that it "almost always" happens so I should just get over it.
I'm going to leave you with a nice song about children being crushed and suffocated to death by a panicked crowd, hope you enjoy it.
Line crashers literally almost caused people to die on the left side pit, people got trampled and crushed into the barriers.
So seriously, fuck anyone who thinks its okay to rush the pit, is it going to take someone DYING for you people to understand what the consequences of your actions are??
I started fighting back and holding my ground. It was seriously dangerous. There needs to be legit security and barriers for the pit line
They actually do a decent job describing what happened
I agree...the legitimate complaints are fine (time between songs being a little longer than preferred) and the idea that some people disliked unfairly but not everyone who was at the set hated it. Lots of people having a great time.

I feel like people getting carried away by police and medics would be a pretty good indication for how bad it was up there.
I can imagine. Despite Kanye being one of the performers I wanted to see the most, I decided to bail at that point. Heard it was great from some, terrible from others, but I figure I can catch him another time. Probably at the next Superbowl.

I feel like this set sounds pretty similar to Radiohead 2012. They didn't have traditional screens, making it harder to see from the back, their set had more difficult material in it, and it all around wasn't as good as 2006. That was ony of the best shows I've ever seen in my life, but I can understand those criticisms.

Youtube user godieinhell2 posted at least half the show from the pit. If you were there, go to relive it; if you weren't, go watch and see how winning feels, and see exactly how wrong the haters are/you were.
I went to a lecture from one of the member's of RUN DMC. He mentioned how rappers were different from hip hop artists.
I hope we understand that Kanye is a Hip Hop Artist, first and foremost.
I dunno if even I would compare him to messiah....or to some innovators of the world.
I hope he continues to do well...but he should stop ranting about his pre-conceived notion of success.
Most great innovators in the world are quiet, humble, and never talk on a stage to 80,000 people about how special they are.
The problem with this is that Kanye's music is extremely personal. A quiet a humble person would have never made MBDTF, Yeezus, or any of Kanye's albums for that matter. And without making those masterpieces he wouldn't be on a stage in front of 80,000 people
Kanye's late-starting performance at 2008's Bonnaroo stands as the single most notorious set in the festival's 13-year history. I wasn't there, but I do remember officially-sanctioned anti-Kanye graffiti all up and down the walls near the Bonnaroo arch the following year. All day Friday, idiots could be found toting "Kanye is a gay fish" signs from tent to tent; clearly, all is not forgotten.
Still, there he was, out on the big stage, performing a scaled-back version of the much-ballyhooed Yeezus tour setup, his two-hour timeslot largely unopposed on the other stages. From where I was standing—not quite halfway back, towards the right of the stage—the mix was spot-on, but the volume was pathetic; Jack White, from the same spot the next night, was easily twice as loud. Not only did the Bonnaroo faithful not seem to want him back, but the festival itself seemed to be working against him. So when he started to outline the reasons for his return—to "piss all on the port-a-potties" people had tagged with anti-Kanye screeds—he elicited all the boos people had clearly been waiting to unload.
Thing is, I stood and watched those same people rapping along to "Good Life" not seconds later. Hating Kanye is a sport for some people, and when he dares to push back, they rub their hands with glee. The set wasn't without its problems: the sound, the long silences between songs, the comparatively spartan setup. But the real problem with Kanye's set had nothing to do with Kanye comparing himself to Henry Ford, or running "Blood on the Leaves" back a few too many times. Bonnaroo prides itself on its community vibe, but that vibe can quickly turn ugly when that community finds a common enemy to turn on. Here we have the most important musician pop music's seen in ages, a guy whose sonic ambitions and emotional openness almost singlehandedly reconfigured rap music. But he was kinda late to his set at Bonnaroo one time, and the loyalists just couldn't believe that the grudge they'd been holding onto for six years might turn out to be mutual. Lisa Simpson said it best: Why would they come to his concert just to boo him?
I urge you if your going to use the internet for reference, type in the phrase "Best rapper in the world" in your search engine. Click on any of the page one links....No Kanye. I will say that he is mentioned on the "Top 10 Most Popular Rappers" list as the most popular rapper, but they even bash him. "As an artist, Kanye might not be so talented but he knows how to sell music."
It seems that after 100's of people posting on here we can agree on one pattern. Those who were in the pit area seemed to have a good time, those who couldn't see from the sides say otherwise.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that with headlines like "Kanye West Goes Crazy at Bonnaroo" (from Yahoo), "Kanye West gets booed at Bonnaroo" (from Entertainment Weekly), & "Kanye Returns to Bonnaroo With a Night of Lectures" (from the daily beast); we have most likely seen the last of him at Bonnaroo....unless you count the next 10 years of graffiti on the side of port-o-johns.
I camped out for Kanye in front of the rail since Janelle Monae, stood in mud for much of it. And let me tell you, it was worth it. Kanye QUACKING killed it. I was a little disappointed he didn't do more tracks, where was flashing lights, or homecoming? But I still loved it. That Blood on The Leaves Encore!!!!!!! The beat to Jesus Walks was sick as well.
For everyone saying the crowd hated it, and was booing. Everyone up close was going crazy and cheering, I never heard any boos at all.
But yeah, after his show, I started finding Kanye is a gay fish and quack kanye graffiti EVERYWHERE. Bonnaroo, does not like Kanye, and its sad.

Eminem was #1 on some of those lists and you idiots booed him too.
Edit: also, I could explains to you how search engines work and therefor how dumb your theory is, but that's not the point, is it?
therefor has an "e" on the end of it.
"Therefor is often used in legal or formal language. It means for that or for it. Therefore means consequently. The tycoon changed his will and give his reason therefor. Therefore, there was no way his will could be challenged."

I don't give a fuck who you are, if you are a musician and you don't play music for a full 10 minutes that's fucking terrible. I don't want to hear you speak, I want to hear you rap and perform. And he didn't even play his entire time slot, like really? Oh, and the autotune on his voice all the time was so goddamn annoying. This was by far the worst headlining performance I've ever seen at Bonnaroo.
Oh and for the record I love Kanye's music...thats why I'm pissed because he didn't play it.

not to self promote, but I uploaded a couple yeezus full song videos if anyone is interested. the sound is better than the video but not bad quality overall.
gunna get a lot of mileage out of this pic in this thread.
Yeah, but for me it's not really accurate. Hits, deep cuts, whatever. Just play. S'all I'm saying.
Well I was more commenting on whole "we don't care about you as an artist or your message, we just want to hear those beats and dance" kind of thing.
I understand both sides of it. There are certainly artists I've seen live that start to ramble about stuff that just makes my eyes roll back in my head. I hate to pick on Stevie Wonder but he was real bad about this at Hangout 2013.
But, personally, I loved hearing Kanye speak. But I understand the folks that didn't.
