Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
What I'm trying to say is, why is it that most bands or artists can be ridiculed, but when you speak ill of kanye, people get up in arms? Why is he untouchable?
It's because generally most of the bands that people ridicule on here aren't very good. Kanye is.
And I can respect your point of view, However, would you agree that music is subjective (therefore what is good to one person isn't to another)?
I've been to roo 3 times and still don't have a full understanding of what happened with him. Someone care to explain?
From what I have gathered, someone correct me if I am wrong, it goes like this. He was originally scheduled to close out Which, but sometime late in the process (maybe even the day of?) asked to be moved later so that the light show he had prepared would be more effective. So, they moved him to What after the headliner...however, he didn't actually perform until much later than his rescheduled time (something like 4am).
that's pretty much it. it would show on the screens: 'kanye west will now start at xx:xx' and they kept moving the time back...and then moving it back some more. for a solid hour before he started there was no activity on the stage - it looked like everything was set up and ready to go. he came out and didn't say sorry or even acknowledge the crowd. the sunrise ended up ruining the second half of his light show. it was a pretty lame premise for a show - he was the only person on stage and he had these awkward conversations with his robot spaceship he was flying on. i think he ended up crashing on an alien planet or something. it sounded great though. flashing lights booming from the full power of the what stage was pretty damn epic.

It made me even more giddy than I already was as I was walking away from Petty in the crowd that I saw some graffiti that said "Forgive Kanye." Just let it go. Yes he's a brilliant performer. Yes he's headliner material. Yes it's going to happen sooner or later.

It wasn't the day of that he asked the set to be switched, that had been in the works for weeks leading up to the fest. There is evidence that his claims that Roo wasn't ready for him until way late are partly true, but he obviously had his own hand in what happened.
Delicious Meatball Sub, can we just call a truce and end this, it's just pointless arguing over the internet that accomplishes nothing.
Sure dude, we don't have to argue about this anymore, but you were being pretty naive to think that if you started knocking on Kanye in this thread someone wasn't going to bust your chops for it.
Also, as an aside, you really need to expand to musical palate a little. 21 of the 22 favorite bands you listed have no women or people of color. There's gotta be some more stuff out there that tickles your fancy. You should check out, to start:
Nina Simone - Pastel Blues Prince - Purple Rain Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell Any Supremes compilation Marvin Gaye - What's Going On CHVRCHES (cause you like Foster the People) The Blueprint Bjork - Post Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star St Vincent Terry Callier - What Color is Love
You people are insane, Kanye is a talentless hack, that is why he was booed off stage at Bonnaroo in 2008. He has poor flow, a disjointed style and poor rhyming technique, especially live. Who cares about his politics he is a bad musician
Pop quiz: name a living artist that had won more Grammys than Kanye.
Fact check: since when are Grammy's a good indicator of the quality of music?
Mumford & Sons won this year. Does that make them good? What about Taylor Swift a couple of years ago?
I dont know who the person was who spraypainted "forgive Kayne" on the Centeroo wall this year but I wanted to give them the biggest high five of all time. Let it go, you petty f*cks. Most of the current Bonnaroo attendees weren't even there in '08. "f*ck kanye" is as played out as running around yelling "buttscratcha."

Amen. And I only heard "buttscratcha" once this year, but it still gave me summers breeze chills.

Time heals, I guess. This year I only saw two Kanye related graffiti items (one was Kanye Sucks and the other F-CK Kanye). That is much less than prior years. It will blow everyone's mind when Kanye headlines and Phil Lesh FINALLY (in my best Rock voice) returns to Bonnaroo. All kidding aside, they would do it in a heartbeat if it sold tickets. I don't really care for Kanye. I didn't before 2008 and I still don't, but it wouldn't ruin my Bonnaroo or anyone elses. Just don't go. I never see all three headliners. I barely ever see one, except in 2008 when I saw all of them(this year my one was Jack Johnson). My basic philosophy is that they can load up on the big acts that will sell tickets and that will help book some of the undercard, which is the real reason I go anyway. And on another note, wouldn't we all love-even just a little bit, to see Kanye come back just to see the reaction. 95% of the crowd this year probably had no idea about 2008 as there seem to be more and more newcomers every year.

I heard it once on Sunday. It's still funny to me haha.
He coheadlined with the Strokes (at least they were billed that way). And Phoenix, Blur, Portishead (until they had to book Prince), Stone Roses, the Killers, and Bjork were all headliners at Coachella. Bonnaroo has bigger headliners (save for WSP and Phil Lesh) since 2006.
2012: C - Black Keys, Radiohead, Dre & Snoop & Friends B - Radiohead, RHCP, Phish
2011: C - Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West/The Strokes B - Arcade Fire, Eminem, Widespread Panic
2010: C - Jay-Z, Muse, Gorillaz B - Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews
2009: C - Paul McCartney, the Killers, the Cure B - Bruce Springsteen, Phish
2008: C - Roger Waters, Prince, Jack Johnson, Portishead B - Metallica, Pearl Jam, Widespread Panic
2007: C - Bjork, RHCP, Rage Against the Machine B - Tool, the Police, Widespread Panic
Coachella was only two days pre-2007, so I'll stop there. But I don't know how you can say that the headliners at Bonnaroo are bigger, not when Coachella a) avoids the jamband detritus repeat headliners, and b) landed acts like Prince, Roger Waters, McCartney (4 years before Bonnaroo), Rage Against the Machine, Dre & Snoop, Gorillaz, the Cure...really, the only year I'd give to Bonnaroo is this year, and that's because of McCartney only.
But regardless, it's pointless. Kanye West headlines any festival he plays now. No co-headliners.
Even if coachellas headliners are bigger, which is debatable, I think bonnaroos undercard is always better. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the lack of diversity in coachellas lineup? Bonnaroo definitely has them beat when it comes to that.

I guess you didn't bother too look at any Coachella lineups before posting this?
The two festivals share at least half of their undercard performers, at least in recent years.
It seems there is a high chance of Mumford HL'ing. Soo Kanye + Mumford = most main stream headliners AC could pick. If that is what goes down please hope for some balance with Neil Young or Phish or something... I know these are huge names too but we all know they are a different type of huge name. You thought it was busy this year??

"At least half" leaves room for Roos to be better.
Of all the subjective things we argue about around here, this might be the most subjective. There are things about Bonnaroo I prefer to Coachella, but I'll take Coachella's undercard any day of the week.
"At least half" leaves room for Roos to be better.
1- Learn to quote (it's the button that says "quote") 2- Get an avatar (I don't like debating things with the internet equivalent of putting a sheet over your head on Halloween). 3- Yes, at least half of the undercard is shared by the two fests (or thereabouts). This means that the headliners (which you hopefully would admit are not clear-cut in Bonnaroo's favor) and the remaining undercard is what decides it. If you bothered to look at a lineup and actually pull some examples I might pass out from the shock, but there's a little hint to make your points seem more like an objective observation instead of a biased "pssh my festy is the besty *sticks tongue out*" comment.

Bonnaroo has had Bruce, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Eminem, the Police, DMB, and Phish that Coachella has not. So I don't think either really wins on the exclusive headliner argument.
I get the WSP hate, but I don't get the "jamband detritus repeat headliners" slam on Bonnaroo. Because Phish has headlined twice? I'd take them over every Coachella headliner listed save Radiohead, Waters, Prince, and Rage. DMB is what you make of them, but they're obviously huge and have only headlined once in the years discussed.
For my own personal tastes,
2007: Tie, with neither really doing much for me. Probably Coachella because of Rage. 2008: Coachella by an inch. Waters/Prince is disgusting, but Metallica/PJ/Kanye is as well. 2009: If it was anyone but Paul, Bonnaroo by a mile. And I'd still take the Bruce, Phish x2, Beasties and NIN over Paul/Killers/Cure. 2010: Coachella by an inch, maybe. I'd rather see Stevie than Muse or Gorillaz, but those two beat DMB and KoL. Jay-Z played both. 2011: Coachella 2012: Bonnaroo 2013: Bonnaroo
So I'd take Coachella 4 of the years and Bonnaroo for 3. With 2 of Coachella' wins being by not much.

So I'd take Coachella 4 of the years and Bonnaroo for 3.
I bet Paul T lies awake at night freaking out about having never booked Phish and DMB.
Winning 22 Grammys certainly earns you the right not to be called a "bad musician."
Anyone who calls Kanye a bad musician is an idiot. But so is anyone that uses the # of Grammy's someone has as justification for how good they are.
At least I know how to change my avatar.
But yeah, Grammy # was only being used as evidence that he's not "bad." If I want to prove to people that he's the greatest musician of our generation I just tell them to listen to MBDTF.
I bet Paul T lies awake at night freaking out about having never booked Phish and DMB.
And I bet Capps lies awake at night freaking out that he has never booked the Killers, Portishead, Muse, or Phoenix as a headliner.
Comparing DMB to Portishead I see. BOLD.
I'll take Phish over any of those.
Why are you applauding the business acumen of booking bands who play everywhere all the time? If I ran a festival I'd look for something that offered an experience that was at lease colorably unique.
