Simply put Sir Elton still rocks it and is as iconic as they come. He could play a 4 hour set and not even put a dent in his catalog. This would be epic.
I'll be honest by saying that having Elton John as a headliner would not be my first choice, because if I did have my first choice the lineup would be ridiculous. But I think plenty of folk including myself could get down to an Elton show if that was what was on offer. I go to Bonnaroo knowing that of the 150 or so groups playing, I'll want to see at least 20-25 and worry about conflicts; amortize that over the cost of getting to Manchester, tickets, and sundries - not too bad. Especially if you can cross off a legend that would cost you serious $ to see in an arena setting.

For me it's tiny dancer. Reminds me of a friend who passed away nearly two years ago (the anniversary is coming up in two weeks, her bday is tomorrow sad times ) but tiny dancer was one of her favorite songs and it gets me every time, so I'd be crying in the field. Similarly to the way I was with yesterday & blackbird this year. Therefore Elton holds a special place in my heart and I 100% support him as a headliner. High notes or no. I hope it happens.
it amazes me how early you called this thomwaits .... bravo for you

Spent some time going through his setlists and I have to admit I either forgot about some of his songs or wasn't even attributing certain songs to him.
Tiny Dancer Goodbye Yellowbrick Road (bout time a rapper sampled that chorus OB4CL2) Rocketman I guess thats why they call it the blues Don't let the sun go down on me The Bitch is Back Your Song (Aloe Blacc? lol god I'm lame) Someone Saved my Life Tonight (Good Morning? god I'm lame) Saturday Night's Alright Bennie and the Jets Candle in the Wind Lion King stuff it doesn't seem like he plays it much croc rock and finally Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding will be an amazing opener to that show.

Is this young buck missing other important songs?
Levon and Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters are two of my favorites and they look like they still have heavy play in his set lists.

Nice! Thanks. Already newly enjoying Your Sister cant twist and I'm still Standing. It's not really stuff I'd listen to on a daily basis, but seems like this show is going to close out the festival in great fashion.

I'm super excited to see Sir Elton this year. I've been trying to catch a show for years and its just never panned out. Just curious about what songs everyone is looking forward to hearing the most? For me:
#1 Levon #2 Crocodile Rocks
besides those in no particular order I'd like to hear Daniel, I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues, Benny and the Jets, Circle of Life

Look at us agreeing on something Lucien! Those are definitely two of my favorite and he played them both a year ago when I saw him.

I could see him breaking out a lot more Lion King stuff for bonnaroo. I think it's pretty obvious with how young the crowd skews, a lot of the attendees (myself included) watched that movie a lot growing up.

tiny dancer. I've heard he has not done circle much. do you have anything where he's done it recently?
I do not. It just seems like an appropriate time and place for it. His first american festival, headlining Bonnaroo in front of the crowd of animals that have been living in the wild for four days. It's like the animal kingdom straight out of the movie. Haha, it's gotta happen.

i was looking at recent setlists and he definitely hasn't done any lion king stuff in about a year. but he has done them in the past. also it doesn't look like he plays "daniel" on this tour either. that bums me out
