You don't have to watch them at the same time. I'd go through a whole series, then jump shows. The way we did it was we watched the first Torchwood series after Doctor Who Series 2. Then alternate.... back to Doctor Who for Series 3, Torchwood Series 2, Doctor Who Series 4, then Torchwood: Children of Earth (which is freaking awesome).
I personally like to pretend the American Torchwood (Miracle Day) doesn't exist.
they have some intertwined characters and what not, so i would recommend watching a bit of doctor who before moving on to torchwood. but you could realistically watch torchwood and understand what is going on without ever watching any doctor who IMO.
Check Fandango for November 25th. They're showing Day of the Doctor in some theaters across the US. Got my tickets for the Nashville showing. One night, one time only. I couldn't get it to come up on the computer, so try the app if you have it.
FYI: BBC America will stream the 50th Anniversary episode online - but not until Sunday. Hopefully all Whovians will find a way to see it next Saturday.
I was watching an episode last night, I think it was Planet of the Ood but don't quote me, where Donna sees Rose and I gasped so loudly Jim wanted to be sure I was okay

Oh god, I couldn't for the life of me like Donna OR Rose. Rose got a little bit more from me because she was the first companion I was introduced to, but god did I hate Donna. Give me Martha, Amy, Clara, or Cpt. Jack any day and I'll be a happy man.
I had a friend who was so terribly excited about sharing something at my party on Saturday. We got it hooked up and played... and I'm tickled pink cause she and two other friends have started a Glam Trock band (Trock = Timelord Rock)!!!!!!!!!
Anyone watch the 50th in theaters tonight? My kids saw it for the first time tonight and my mini Doctor was literally on the edge of his seat the entire time. So awesome.
Okay, I think I need some Who tutoring. Watched Day of the Doctor this weekend and my mind is a little blown. I think I had been under the concept that when the Doctor regenerates that it was the equivalent of dying. But...if that is the case how are there three doctors in DOD?

He's a time traveler. So, they're all from different points in time. Regeneration isn't dying. All three Doctor's are actually the same person, just in different points in life. Maybe someone else can explain regeneration better because the best I have is that it's just a thing that he does to carry on with life.

Yeah, I know it's all the Wibbly Wobbly timey wimey stuff but I guess my brain is a bit linear. With this show there are times I don't try to understand, just relax and enjoy it

So I have been looking and have found many varying opinions as to whether or not and when to Torchwood in conjunction. I'm currently leaning towards waiting til I finish getting through Who but I'm just about to Utopia in season 3 which seems to be the general consensus meeting point. What do you guys think?

Only this year did I finally get into Doctor Who again - I grew up watching the original and it's always had a special place in my heart.
I watched up to series 4 then watched a few episodes of Torchwood, but then I just watched all of Doctor Who to present, and then continued with Torchwood. I am on the 3rd season of Torchwood now and it's worked well in that order for me.
That regeneration was a whiplash scene! There were four of us watching, Chris cracked a joke just before it happened, then we all went "WHOA" cause it was so quick and Chris looked back and said "What?!? I missed it!" lol. Though since his regeneration started at the belltower, I suppose it was long enough. I didn't have the feels I did when David Tennant regenerated, though.
Did the timelords through the crack give him a new set of regenerations, or just the one?
And oh, Capaldi! I'm very excited about him. Though when he asked Clara if she knew how to fly the TARDIS, I got really ,really nervous lol
I fully expected Capaldi to say "Do you know how to f*cking fly this thing?" I should stop watching The Thick of It. But I really enjoyed his introduction. Excited for his first episode and I hope Clara sticks around.
I enjoyed the whole episode, really.
I liked that he regarded the Cyberman's head as a friend. I'm still a little confused by the time lords and the crack. Hopefully that gets explained in the coming series.
I DVR'd the Christmas Special but am not up to date with my viewing, still on Matt Smith. Watch now or wait?
I would wait, because there is a lot that you wouldn't understand unless you had watched them all. Although, really, there is still a lot that I don't understand and I've watched them all!
