No Avicci... Well glad I spent the whole day hearing announcements about t-shirt sales and youtube videos to only find out they added Big G (who everyone already knew) and Broken Bells (who is at every festival).. God their social media is terrible.

Yeah I'm pretty disappointed here. Not that I was thrilled about Avicii, but a day of "huge" announcements turned out to be just be pretty lame. And to have to wait around all day to find out. I'm stoked about Broken Bells but it's not something I think a lot of people are super pumped about. Definitely not the best marketing I've ever seen.
There are still 2 more hours left on my clock of today, chill
They came out with the "Official Firefly Lineup/Poster." They're not coming out with another addition and saying, whoops we lied sorry. Anything else would just be bullshit announcements from here on in. Much like most of the day was today already

Yea I'm kinda disappointed in Firefly I mean that was weak, next year they will be wise not to do that. But I've got 2 things going for me, A. I still really enjoy the lineup B. I'm going to roo too and it looks as though all the headliners will be different. That's what I call swag
Just a comment but I see no Friday after headliner type yet...idk they could use someone on there that I didn't think of
Foo Fighters might have the longest set of the fest. I could see them playing until and then someone like A trak and Childish Gambino splitting stages for another 2 hours or so but I agree theres no stand out artist

The announcements started at 9am but that's when tickets went back on sale, it wasn't until 10am when they made the first real announcement so I could see a 10-10 timeframe, i see what your saying about Foo going a while and I'd be totally for that, most likely childish gambino late Friday. If not Foo is deff pulling a long one I'd say 2 1/2h minimum.
I understand this is my opinion but are they really that big to close out Friday? I could be wrong though
The acts that play after the headliner aren't necessarily "big." Last year Krewella and Dan Deacon followed RHCP... Neither are as "big" as Girl Talk or A-Trak
Big Gigantic just added. Weird that they announced them AFTER releasing the day by day breakdown and the updated lineup video. I guess there is still hope for some more lineup additions tonight?
I know nothing of how Firefly's promoters do things, but in regards to Bonnaroo, there are late additions every year. There are also usually a some negotiations that occur just days before the standard lineup announcements. So while I would never base a ticket-buying decision on speculation, there is always hope for a non-headliner to be added. Heck, Bonnaroo was even able to add a pretty big headliner at the very last moment last year when a guy from Mumford had to have emergency brain surgery, or whatever was the case.
Still favoring Bonnaroo over Firefly for 2014, but tomorrow's lineup announcement will really give me a chance to decide. And in regards to Roo 2010, that year we had record-breaking heat and traffic snafus which have not been repeated. So even the 105F temps and nine hours in line aren't scaring me away! But I'll certainly keep an eye on FF in the future if this is not the year for me.
EDIT: And Beck being billed directly below the Lumineers is a nearly unforgivable point of disagreement. I've been a fan since 1994ish and would love to see that fool for the first time in years. Even met Sean Lennon and Cibo Matto thanks to Beck - coolest musicians I've met, aside from Roger Trautman.

Overall these were incredibly disappointing announcements. I guess Avicii had to back out. Im a fan of Broken Bells so their addition was cool, but I don't see how they are the equivalent to Avicii. I will say though I am impressed with the premiere of Bleachers. I bet they become quite popular by the time the festival season comes around.
I bought tickets to this hoping the lineup would round into form but overall its just really pretty bad. Im alraedy doing Coachella, Governor's Ball and Bonnaroo so there's literally nothing on here even semiexciting. Oh well.
Yea, I'm feeling kinda eh about FF now. I already bought my tix, and I'm sure it'll be a good time, but today's announcements just made me feel less excited for the fest overall.
I see how those announcements were a total let down, but wasn't the biggest complaint about FireFly that it didn't have much of a vibe? I think yesterday's announcements all had to do with with FireFly really trying to carve itself a spot as a major festival with a unique festival vibe.

Do you think yesterday's announcement convinced people that its a major festival with a unique vibe?
My biggest complaint with Firefly is that there hasn't ever really been anything on the lineup to jump out at me as exciting. It seems to be a mix of acts that play lots and lots of festivals, mixed with "whats hot" acts. Sure I enjoy many of the acts that they get, but I just feel like other festivals put together deeper lineups with more excitement and intrigue. And after yesterday, I don't think its distinguished itself at all still.
Well what did you expect? They already have their lineup for this year. I agree that they do a subpar and very uninspired job at booking. But at most we were going to see an Avicii addition (which wouldn't really address our argument). I would love if they booked a lineup more akin to Gov Ball, Coachella, Bonnaroo, ACL, or Lollapalooza as opposed to Kanrocksas or Orlando Calling.
But if I was attending, I would be happy to see that they're really trying to create a true festival experience.

I just want an honest rundown of Firefly. I have been to three Roos ('04, '05, '13), and each have been their own incredible journey. I made a baby during the '05 Roo (hence the 7 year hole in my Roo'ness), and she is the greatest human being on this planet. I love the Roo with a passion, but man the lineup at Firefly hits the spot for me. Foo Fighters have been on my must-see list for eons, and although somewhat overplayed... Jack, Lumineers, Young the Giant, Portugal, LOCAL NATIVES!!, Pretty lights, and City and Colour are like a greatest hits of some of the shows I've seen in the last few years. I despise the bro crowd too (this falls right after my 30th bday), but last years' Roo was a rude awakening that the bro crowd is upon us. I was really looking for maybe a Mumford redemption this year, or the Foo, or Outkast, but it isnt happening and that makes FF look that much more appealing.
Firefly is still young, and from what I read, improving. I just want to know how the camping plays out. Is it the anything goes atmosphere? How does the schedule usually play out (noon to 1 am?), is it a 24 hour experience?
My conflict is that I was planning on Rooing, then the next weekend catching both nights of DMB in Indiana, which is traditionally a great show/camping experience. I bought pit tickets for the Friday night set, which they announced would be all acoustic, and an amazing change of pace from the other 17 times I have seen them. Firefly happens to fall on that weekend, so I would have to abort my plans. I don't think I can swing a transition from the Roo into Firefly due to money, family, etc... so I have a tough decision. I was really stoked for this year after the time we had last year, but I'm not sold on the Elton/Kanye/Jack White/Lionel card. The undercard is pretty good, but I'm anticipating enough scheduling conflicts to make me miss half of those I want to see.

As awesome as I think the Roo lineup is, half the bands I'd want to see are also playing Govball (which Im already going to). The other half are playing Firefly....so I think I'll save the long trip and just go to FF this year.

There is no "avoiding bros", but I dont allow bros to negatively impact my experience. They are everywhere. I can imagine it being worse with NY, NJ, Philly, etc, directly contributing douches, but I dig the lineup. I am not a big Kanye fan (stopped listening after College Dropout), and although Elton and Lionel are "legends", they aren't who I want to see at a festival

Going from the '05 Roo to the '13 Roo was a culture shock. It was still glorious, but MAN it had changed... For better and for worse. The bros have arrived, just not in full force yet. They are acclimating to the climate set by the true Roo'ers. I'm just let down by the lineup, which hurts my soul. Jack White is not God, sorry... But still he would be the only top row artist I WANT to see. I would have to sacrifice a lot, and piss off a few friends to be able to go to FF, but I think it is time for me to ramble on.
