If he gets added to the lineup, I could see it happening next Monday or Tuesday around the release of his album (that's how they announced Hurray for the Riff Raff).

I'm hoping both Simone and The Felice Brothers are there. Felices have a new album coming out in the summer so it just makes sense. Make it happen NFF!
Ewe. I suppose there has to be at least one that I don't like at all!
What do you dislike about Reignwolf? Are you just not into that style of music? (If so, do other blues-rock bands such as Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr have no appeal to you?)
I'm just curious as I have never given him a chance until today, but I really like what I hear so far.
I've only listened to a few songs after he was announced for one my my fests last year, but he was wayyyy too heavy. I'm not usually a fan of a lot music that can fall under the general hard rock category. Gary Clark Jr and Black Keys both have much much smoother, sexier vocals and less of the banging electric guitar riffs that I hate.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Sounds like a LD Seal of Approval to me.
I should cue that up on Spotify later, just to double check.

NFF better have a good announcement today to account for the fact that Boston Calling just announced that they have the Decemberists only festival gig of the year.
I thought they would be a lock at NFF. And I was really looking forward to it.

Would Simone play with them if it was convenient? Or is there some bad blood?
Today's add is Rodrigo y Gabriela. They're appearing above Mavis Staples on the lineup, so Sunday's "headliner"? (even though we know Mavis will close things down)
I've seen them twice before. They were enjoyable at Lollapalooza 2007. But they blew me away before Radiohead at Bonnaroo 2012; the way they captivated such a large audience in a large field with acoustic guitars was truly stunning.
Also, is there any room left for Tweedy on Sunday? It's not looking like it with Mavis, Rod y Gab, Conor, and Dawes all pretty high profile acts.
EDIT: Nevermind. I think I must have loaded the lineup page at the exact moment they were added; their picture has since been moved below Conor Oberst.

He would. There was minor bad blood when it first happened because the Felice Brothers had to basically re-structure everything about their live shows and also find a new permanent drummer right after their second album came out. But they get along fine now and have played together a bunch of times. Not at shows where they are both on the bill but like guest spots for each other's shows here and there.
So I've been thinking about what cath said about wanting more alt-folk bands on the lineup, and I've come up with a few that I would love to see Newport take a chance on (and are touring this summer):
The War on Drugs Volcano Choir The Dodos tune-yards (NFF already took a chance on them 2 years back, but they have a new album coming out this summer) Kurt Vile and the Violators

I'd like to see them bring the Wood Brothers to Newport. They're doing festival dates so they are playing and have nothing scheduled for NFF weekend yet.

they've been before, but it's been a while for sure.....
I seen they were playing Portland, Albany, and NYC in April - and found it odd there was a big loop around Boston/Prov/CT ... this must explain it. I am happy, wouldn't have been able to go to the Portland show.
It's also worth pointing out that while Grizzly Bear may be on hiatus, frontman Daniel Rossen is gearing up for a tour playing songs from Grizzly Bear, from Department of Eagles, and off of his solo EP. Only tour dates so far are in spring, but at least it opens up the chance for some Grizzly Bear songs at the fort.
Also, Lollapalooza lineup drops early next week. Given that it's one weekend after Newport, I think it'll be a good indicator of some of the bands we may see on the NFF lineup. Fingers are crossed that Passenger is on the Lollapalooza lineup so that he has a reason to be dragged across the sea in time for Newport.

On one hand, yay Jimmy Cliff! I was sad when I found out he was at Bonnaroo the first year I had to skip.
On the other hand, he's listed above Band of Horses. Is he the Friday headliner? If so, at least 2 of the 3 headliners are acts I wouldn't pay to see. A step down after last year's youthful, currently relevant 3 headliners.

See now last year I was meh on the headliners and so far this year I'm quite happy. Quite excited about Mavis and friends. From the whole lineup to-date have only found a very few that I can scratch off my schedule so far. Though I am waiting for my grilled cheese again.
I don't believe Nickel Creek are closing out on Saturday.
And also, while Mavis Staples herself wouldn't be headliner material - this whole 75th birthday special "with friends" makes it far more interesting of a headliner than the Avetts, who while have popularity and a younger audience - play festivals all over the place. (Ed: Personally I don't like the Avetts as well.)

I'm almost certain none of the groups they've announced are headliners. My deepest hopes are Jack White and Neil Young for Saturday and Sunday, and if those two are there, I don't care who the third one is.

They said Mavis & Friends was the closing set on Sunday. Also I don't think there is any way for a festival of Newport's size that they could afford someone like Neil or Jack unless he does it has a bucket list/ favor kind of thing the way Beck did.
I think we now have our top 4 for Sunday, 3 of our top 4 for Friday, and 1 of our top 4 for Saturday.
I guess it is possible that another "headliner" type act gets added to Sunday right below (or even above) Mavis on the lineup, and plays right before her on the main stage. A band like Alabama Shakes would be perfect for that (I'd LOVE to see Brittany belt The Weight with Mavis ala the Grammy's). But Conor Oberst was listed 3rd on the 2012 lineup, so I'm skeptical that he'll end up 3rd (or lower) on his day. Especially when Rod y Gab and Dawes are already after him.
As any of you who actually read my ramblings may know, I've been pulling for Jack White for a while now (since the Inside Llewyn Davis special premiered on Showtime). But after seeing him continuously listed as a headliner for festivals (and not a number 4, 5, or 6 act), I am thinking he's too big (even Beck isn't getting the "headliner" treatment at all festivals). However, if Mavis is the "big" get on Sunday, maybe that frees up some money for the other night? And maybe Jack White has a strong desire to play Newport?
