I agree. Right now there's no indication that this is anything more than yet another one off for Adams.
However, I believe that he is one of the more requested acts at NFF. In previous years, NFF mentioned that they've tried for Adams but he isn't interested in playing outdoor shows and/or music festivals. Given that Xponential Fest is outdoors, maybe his opinion has changed? I would think he has an open invitation to play at NFF judging by their responses to people's requests (and they are a fan of his on Facebook).
And, I think we're slowly crossing off viable headliner options. No Decemberists. No Emmylou Harris. No John Fogerty. No Wilco (I would guess with the Tweedy announcement; but I guess he could pull double duty). No Neutral Milk Hotel. No Trey. No indication of any activity for MMJ (but I guess they could pull a one off with Jim James as an advisor), Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, or Monsters of Folk (Conor has a tour date on Friday anyways).
Outside of Jack White, I guess Willie Nelson and/or Alison Krauss are still in play (but they are touring New England pretty hard in June). As is Gillian & Dave, Alabama Shakes, and John Prine. There are also a few folk supergroups forming. Any other legitimate possibilities?

Also, Tall Tall Trees is new to me, but this video has me sold. Assuming I get out the door in time, this looks to be a must-not-miss show.
That's awesome he'll be there. Dude is REALLY good. Think, a banjo playing Keller Williams. Saw him open at a tiny club in Philly last year. Been a fan since. Also, would just like to make note that I called Jeff Tweedy.

My one thought that I mentioned earlier was Neil Young. He's got a couple dates and has been doing acoustic stuff, so I hoped that he could make his way to the Fort. But the Ryan Adams possibility makes me just as happy. Would love Alabama Shakes or Gillian & Dave. Also heard of a possibility of that whole Marcus Mumford, Jim James, Taylor Goldsmith, Elvis Costello thing being a headliner. They're all available so it would make sense and be super awesome.
Side note: I would've guessed The Head and the Heart would be on the lineup, but they're not big enough to headline and too big to fit anywhere else on the schedule.
You don't think there's still room for two big acts on Saturday? (One of them being the headliner, the other getting billed 3rd - 5th for the day.) I think the Head and the Heart could fit in there. My hope is for Passenger but there is no evidence he'll be in the US around that time. Sunday seems to be set at top (but last time I said that they still managed to squeeze in Jeff Tweedy). I'm guessing Friday is just missing the headliner at the top.
Also, any indication of a Seeger Tribute? I assume something will go down, but it seems important enough that it'd get its own spot on the lineup.

I guess you're right about Head and the Heart. They could be billed between Nickel Creek and Deer Tick. I'm hoping they announce a bigger act tomorrow. If our Jack White predictions are true, then announcing him tomorrow, on the heels of his tour announcement would make sense.
Haven't heard anything about Seeger tribute, but I agree that it seems like something that would get its own spot.
Not sure if there were contractual obligations, but Beck was the last act to be announced last year. Unfortunately, if Jack White is on the lineup, I'm guessing that we're going to have to wait it out until the end to find out. (Hopefully the end is within the next 3 weeks.)
And if my Ryan Adams wishes do come true, we may have to wait until Xponential Fest tickets go on sale on April 17th until Newport announces him.
I don't really know how all of these clauses work, but I do know that NFF claims that they do the rolling lineup to satisfy certain requirements put in place by the bigger bands. And I guess it could be the case that NFF decided to announce only 4 bands per week as opposed to 5 bands per week to make sure the lineup was still rolling out through most (or all) of April.

That makes a lot of sense. I enjoy it for the most part because I get the chance to listen to every artist they announce. But it starts feeling a little drawn out right around this point. Although I'm already incredibly excited with what they've given us so far.
Haven't been by this thread in awhile, but I agree, the first thing I thought when I saw that Ryan gig was "Oh my gosh, Newport!". It would be such a fantastic booking.

I agree. I don't think we're alone in this feeling. The number of interactions with their Facebook posts drops significantly as time moves forward. I'm dreading the week of museum stage, kids stage, and busker announcements.
XPoNential just announced Ryan Adams as one of their headliners for the same weekend as Newport. He's playing with Jenny Lewis and Dawes, so it'd kinda be surprising if Newport didn't get him too.
Didn't they deny getting Adams on Facebook? Or was that another year or artist I'm thinking of?
It was actually in a reply to a comment I made on their Facebook wall requesting Paul Simon and Ryan Adams.
Their response: "We've tried on both. Paul wants a lot of dough and Ryan doesn't like to play outdoors, doesn't like festivals, and doesn't like to play during the day"
Now, it's worth mentioning that this exchange took place September 1, 2013. It's highly possible that something changed since then. I forgot about the part that "he doesn't like to play during the day." Other than that, the part about "he doesn't like to play outdoors" and he "doesn't like festivals" seems to have gone out the window with the Xponential booking.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I don't hate him... I just don't really enjoy him. I've seen him solo twice and will (probably) see him again at Roo (on my birthday.. boo). I just rally have no urge to see him again.

I envy how many times you will have seen him by the end of June. I can only hope Newport allows me to up my Jack-count to 3 (once with Raconteurs, once solo so far).

With 'Roo and hopefully Newport mine will be up to 3 as well. All solo. I'm hoping I'll get a chance to see at least one of his other groups, Dead Weather being most likely/probably

Gotcha. I'm a huge White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather fan so I've loved his live shows and I look forward to more this summer.
And you don't like him...? Or you just don't really need/want to see him again?
I can certainly appreciate his talent and all he has accomplished, but his style is just not something that gets me going. I suppose it's along the same lines as my explanation of why I wasn't excited for Reignwolf (discussed a few pages back).

I have to chose this Saturday between seeing Arc Iris(of The Low Anthem) at a house concert or seeing The War on Drugs. What are the chances of either of them being at Newport? I really want to see both!
So, Bob Dylan has overseas dates up to July 17th and I'm sure he's gonna do a US tour. So who agrees that it is likely that he starts it up in Newport this year?
