Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Alright after Jack White's Bonnaroo set, I'm unbelievably pumped for him at Newport. That was the best show I've ever seen. While I don't think Newport will be on that level, I think it will feel really intimate and special, especially if he strips it down a little bit. No matter what, we're in for a treat.
Time for me to really bunker down on these Newport artists and get some listening done!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Well now that we know the full lineup, let me start the Most Excited To See list making. I'm sure my top 15 (I couldn't settle on just a top 10) will change quite a bit between now and the fest because there are so many good bands with new albums to dive into.
Most Excited To See - Top 15 1) Nickel Creek 2) Ryan Adams 3) Jack White 4) Band of Horses 5) Puss n Boots 6) The Oh Hellos 7) Dawes 8) Conor Oberst (I had originally grown tired of Conor, but I am in love with the new album; and Dawes Part 2 is fine by me!) 9) Hozier 10) The Lonesome Trio (would be higher if they had more tunes out for me to get into) 11) Mandolin Orange 12) Rodrigo y Gabriela 13) Caitlin Rose 14) John Reilly and Friends 15) Shakey Graves (would be higher if a) he had music on Spotify for me to binge, and b) I did not see him recently)
The fact that I can make a top 15 and still leave 5+ bands off that I really want to see just shows the strength of this festival. Jay Sweet has been on fire curating this thing for the past 4 years (2012 is still my favorite lineup; wish I could have made it work that year!)

I think Newport may get it's own "unique" performance but one that lends itself more towards the acoustic/folky side of things. Can't wait for it.
I'm thinking that based on Jay Sweet's intro that we might get a stripped down blues set:
During that same first meeting, George also asked me what we could do to help bring the blues back to Newport in a meaningful and explosive way, something that would tie Newport’s history with Bukka White, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Skip James and of course Son House to the present. I circled a name atop the list and answered, “Jack White”.
That's one of the cool things about Jack White - there are so many ways he can go. But I can tell that he and Newport are going to be friends.
Agreed. With the way the intro is written, I don't think we're going to see a stripped down folky Jack White set. We're going to get a more typical set of his signature blues rock. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if we get the bluegrass version of Top Yourself and the folk version of I Can Tell That We're Going to be Friends. And maybe 1 or 2 blues or folk covers (rather than a Zeppelin cover). And because his set won't be 2.5 hours like it was at Bonnaroo, I'm sure he'll be more selective of songs that work better for the setting (Hotel Yorba, Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, Just One Drink, Temporary Ground)

I've become obsessed with Hozier since he was announced. Just found on his site that he is added to the Communion Lineup on Friday (though it doesn't seem to be updated on the Newport site yet):
NFF mentioned this on Facebook a day or two back, so it is indeed happening! Pretty excited that I'll have a second chance to make sure Hozier fits into my schedule.

John Reily and friends with special guests at the Columbus friday nff night. Its a at 7 so no NFF -> Columbus.. but very small venue. Interesting how Providence is putting up at the same time as Newport. Lupos, The Met, and Columbus are really bringing on the game (finally).
Yes. I'm afraid I'll have to head into the festival early on Friday for Mandolin Orange and Saturday for Willie Watson and/or Benjamin Booker. I may be okay with sleeping in on Sunday though!
From the NFF Facebook page: The Third Man Rolling Record Store and our friends from Third Man Records will be rolling into Newport Folk this summer, and needless to say we'll be like kids in a candy store!
Then it shows a picture of the big yellow Third Man former UPS truck

I remember the record store was supposed to come in 2011 but it broke down on the way
JJB.. you are local.. how local? Would really like to meet you this year. I'll be the chick way outside of the 'crowd' haha hanging on the edge of things. Unless Taylor is playing ping pong. LOL
Milky Chance. Getting play on Spotify. Totally not my thing but it catches my ear every time. WTF? Flash in the pan or a creeper upper? They remind me of something throwback. Have not put my finger on it yet.
I am very much enjoying a slow and steady win (I hope) with The Lone Bellow. They continue to eek up their place on festie line ups this summer. Kodaline reemerged then seems to have faded again. Boo.
Hozier... wow just wowing me more and more and more. ALL OF YOU'S ( you's.. a horrible RI saying like nails on a chalk board.) DO NOT let me consume alcohol before Hozier. Have a thing about dark haired Irish Lads. Technically I'm still kinda sorta betrothed to an Irish fishing captain. He gave me his Titelist? golf hat and stole a kiss before my brother-in-law sent him on home. In Castletowne Bears that's engaged. NO booze before Hosier!
Edit: Quacker is THE love of my life and my one and only, but no booze before the Irish boy.

I'm about 5 minutes away from the basketball hall of fame. I will only be at the blues cafe on saturday night this year. I was supposed to go all weekend but i kept having to scrap whatever plans i made. Which really sucks cause i was so excited about ryan adams. Plus i always like playing spot the quack member. I think the only one i could spot this year is my fellow long hair itm.

That's funny. We end up having to play spot the Quackers too. Bummer you are not going to the days. Bit of a trip for you to Newport..

I used to go to the wolf's den a couple times a year. They can draw some solid acts. I used to drink as much free beer as possible but i heard they stopped that so i haven't been back since the violent femmes gig in '07
