Screenshots? I don't want to download an app....I hate that festivals force this stuff now lol. I like physical things....not draining my already weak battery.
I would except there is no grid view, and it would take a 20-30 screen shots... it's only that horrible view by time/stage which are impossible to visualize conflicts and partial set possibilities on...

Heard! At least ACE offers grid views. I edited that post but too late... I can probably get it in 10 or so. Give me a sec...
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yea, they offer a grid view but it still sucks and you have to click in again just to see the actual start time. I wish they'd offer the schedule like it is and then just a static PDF document that we can view or save on the phone.
custeph you are my hero! I was just about to buckle and download it but thank you for enabling me to avoid it a bit longer lol. Now to cry about conflicts

itrainmonkeys- what was the thing we saw Avetts at? For Pete’s Sake?
Yea, but it was called something else. "Newport Homegrown" or "From something to something". But yea, it was in the indoor spot.
I know it was at the Museum Stage but there are a bunch of things there- both last year and this year... I don't really understand what is different about them besides the curator? Any idea?

Yea, Not really sure the major difference but I think some are more full-on performance while what we saw was considered the workshops/Q&A stuff. Dunno....I'd like more info on all of it though.

Bonz... I'm putting mine in Excel of course.. Can FB it to you i think when its done.
The times are not validated for ex 1:05 and 1:10 but i think they are close. Have to use an android app simulator on my pc so i cant rotate for a grid. Appears my smart phone is now too dumb (old) to accept the app. Friday looks like this ..

Okay, here's my initial schedule. But I think outside of Ryan Adams, much of this weekend will be me throwing my hands up in the air and enjoying whatever set I end up at. As I mentioned earlier, I had 3 must see acts this weekend. NFF was nice enough to overlap 2 of the 3 (Nickel Creek & Puss N Boots).
Friday Mandolin Orange Phox Reignwolf / may work in Jenny Lewis 35 minutes of Lake Street Dive Band of Horses Ryan Adams
Saturday Willie Watson 10 minutes of John C Reilly The Oh Hellos Benjamin Booker / may work in J Roddy Walston No idea what I will do for Shakey Graves, Houndmouth, Shovels & Rope No idea what I will do for Lucius, Milk Carton Kids, Deer Tick Nickel Creek Last 15 minutes of Puss n Boots (may duck out of Nickel Creek early to get more than 15 minutes. I'll need to look at NC set lists.) Jack White
Sunday The Lonesome Trio (bummed that I'll have to miss Caitlin Rose) 30 minutes of Gregory Alan Isakov Dawes Conor Trampled by Turtles (not sure if I'll miss end of Conor or beginning of TBT) Rod y Gab Last hour of Mavis

If you can snag a seat and are willing to stay.. then yeah, I can see Quad being lovely jumpinjamesbrown
You could have sat right next to me there was actually plenty room
Things like that scare me.. no idea what is actually open and who just got up to run to the bathroom.. Especially with the Newport crotchety crowd. I know what happens if half your pinky toe touches a blanket, I can only imagine what they'd do if I accidentally took their seat! Maybe this year I'll try... maybe.

Bonz... wear a broken-foot boot.. you can then step on all the blankets you want.
I did get 'the look' a few times when i could not avoid the blankets, however i found that the return look of ' with this big foot i can't help it' was equivalent to dog shaming. That was probably 2 out of 100.
That reminds me.. later one of the days i set up a chair at the Fort stage out back and plopped. The women I was next to starting grilling me about the boot. I"m all - week 6, i can technically take it off now but it felt better walking around here with the boot etc.. no big deal..
She proceeded to tell me that was a crock of shit, that i had at Least another 3 to 4 weeks to go, rearranged, put my foot up on their cooler, loosened the velcro, iced it down, and told me to stay put for at least half an hour. I was 'relieved' of any decisions throughout this event. Comes to find out she was a head trauma/ER nurse who had the same break years back. Not only was she very caring, turned out she was right too.
haha! See... the nice people set up their goods in back, not in the front row and get mad at the people walking by.
Do you guys think it'll do any good to email NFF to see if they can give us more info the the museum stage curations (spell check is telling me that's not a word, but I'm rolling with it)? I don't expect any schedule or specifics of artists that will participate, but rather if they are all basically the same thing with different curators or if there is a fundamental difference between them?

Ok before I email (maybe I won't now...), I decided to dig a little more.
For Pete's Sake seems to be this year's Folk with Funk complete with Q+As by Chris Funk. Did they announce artists for this last year like this?? I thought it was all a surprise and everyone I saw or knew someone saw, was a name from the lineup and the below names are not.
Newport Folk is proud to announce our new program called “For Pete’s Sake”, which will provide a platform for folk musicians who carry the spirit of Pete Seeger’s life work, and of the first festivals in Newport. For Pete’s Sake performers are presented in the spirit of the original Newport Folk Foundation and have been chosen for their dedication to the traditions of bluegrass, gospel and roots music, to which Pete and Toshi Seeger dedicated their lives.
We will be launching this initiative at the 2014 festival by presenting a series of artists as well as workshops on the Museum Stage, curated and hosted by our friend Chris Funk, and featuring intimate performances with Q&A discussions on hammered dulcimer, bagpipe, hurdy gurdy, nickelharp, autoharp, banjo, fiddle, dance and more! Friday Artists: Thomas Maupin, Daniel Rothwell & Overall Creek Blind Boy Paxton
Saturday Artists: Daniel Meyers Hurdy Gurdy Band Katie McNally plus special guests
David Neiman Matt Fichtenbaum Sanl?kol/Barsamian Duo Harvey Reid plus special guests
I forgot that Communion's lineup was released:
Language Lessons seems to be all about the spoken word:
Spoken word poetry blends words with rhythm, oration with tone and brings storytelling from the page to the stage. Spoken word is akin to folk music; the two often find themselves intersecting in their common origins of sharing stories, activism, and the blues. And like folk music, spoken word has grown over time and stretched the boundaries of it’s ancestors while still staying true to the craft of the story, the spark, the opinion, and the shared experience of the human condition.
I’m happy to welcome Third Man Records to the Fort this summer as they present Readers from Language Lessons V.1: Zachary Schomburg, Joshua Marie Wilkinson, Janaka Stucky, Sampson Starkweather, Paige Taggart, Kendra Decolo, and Chet Weise.
No names released for The Bluegrass Situation:
What’s The Sitch? We don’t just love bluegrass, we are bluegrass. The Bluegrass Situation is host to one-of-a-kind jams and workshops around the country and a hub for modern roots music. It’s representative of a broader community: one that respects a rich and varied history yet looks ahead for ways to innovate its traditions, translating them into a carefully curated lifestyle.
The Sitch crew is thrilled to be making their first appearance at a festival that knows a thing or two about merging lasting traditions with modern life: Newport Folk Fest. On Sunday, July 27, The Bluegrass Situation will present their workshop stage, with some of the most exciting emerging artists on the scene today, backed by a house band featuring Newport legends and lots of surprise guests, and hosted by Sitch co-founder Ed Helms.
