Looks like this is where there may be close ups of scheduled NFFers
On Sunday, July 27, The Bluegrass Situation will present their workshop stage, with some of the most exciting emerging artists on the scene today, backed by a house band featuring Newport legends and lots of surprise guests, and hosted by Sitch co-founder Ed Helms.
Yeah, that by far is the most intriguing to me (vs. Hurry for the Riff Raff, Conor, TbT and Jeff Tweedy )! Although they do mention special guests elsewhere... and even if one doesn't mention special guests, I am sure they all will have some! I was originally aiming forwards seeing For Pete's Sake too after last year's experience with Funk... but I am little at a loss about how it will compare. Will it be as heavy as last year with artists from the lineup?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

As far as i'm concerned if the seats empty it's available. I will ask if there is an empty seat next to someone that looks like maybe their boyfriend or girlfriend got up for a moment but usually the seat is open. Plus snot faces should just stay home, you're on at one of the most beautiful venues in new england and should only have a smile on our face.
Shovels and Rope, Lake Street Dive, and Aoife Odonovan have been involved the last two years at Roo
I suck at posting on the right page today, I'm talking about the Bluegrass Situation
It looks like Shovels and Rope and Aoife have nothing to do that day, although Lake Street will be in Maryland.
Am I skipping Dawes on Sunday?? I am not sure if I have ever missed them at a festival, but I've seen them a good handful of times... and there is Gregory Alan Isakov.. and Hozier... and the Bluegrass Situation...

Same here... but i'm going to be there at least for the start of Hozier. I do have a date with Taylor in January (though he may not know that yet ) so it looks like there will only be a little Dawes in my weekend. Weather may play into it a bit but my sched is looking like more partial shows this year.
A little fort to quad bouncing on Friday but not bad, Saturday heavy quad with some harbor stage bounce, Sunday gets messy unless i take Dawes completely out of the picture which i just dont know if i can do.

I'm doing my own "Road to Newport" starting this weekend by catching a free Felice Brothers not too far out of Pittsburgh.
!
Let me know how it goes. I just caught them last night in NYC and it was awesome (even though James has a "tiny" accordion now because their gear got stolen in St. Louis). New songs rocked and the old songs are still kicking ass.
A lot of slower jams. I don't think I'm going to play it as much as I did Palomino, but there are a few good tracks on it.
I saw them at Mountain Jam and I didn't enjoy them as much as in the past. I thought it seemed low energy, though now reading that, it could be that I am not a fan of their newer songs...

Going to give it another listen. I wasn't really impressed the first time through. As soon as I listened to Stars and Satellites I knew it was fantastic and ended up being my favorite new album of 2012 even though it was not as energetic as their previous releases.

I enjoyed their set I saw in June. It didn't seem to be any slower than when I saw them 2 years ago at Bonnaroo and Free Fest. They always seem to mix in some slower stuff with their faster stuff.
Interesting. I even saw them second row in the VIP pit- seeing someone you like that close is usually a recipe for awesomeness, but I found myself bored.

Sunday: Deslondes > [Check out For Pete's Sake. If not- any] > Gregory Alan Isakov > beginning of Hozier > Bluegrass Situation > ? > Mavis

Maybe I enjoyed the set more because I was far from the stage and was enjoying a picnic while they were playing. During the slow songs I could sit down and grab a bite to eat; during the fast songs I could get up and dance.

I'm pretty excited. I can't think of a better setting to see them at than at a festival remembering the whiskey rebellion. My alma mater helped organize the festival and I remember running into one of my history professors at a Felice Brothers' show about 6 years back; I found out he is the uncle of one of the band members. I wonder if that has anything to do with the booking. They're the only national act on the bill.

Also, Hozier is listed 2nd on the Communion lineup on the schedule. I am really hoping he falls in between Reignwolf and Band of Horses.
Although, I remember it being really hard to get into the Museum Stage last year for any of the actual acts.
Yes... tight spaces..many people. I prefer NFF without needing the xanax.
We've had an enjoyable finally-friday night listening to NFF playlist. Have learned that i really dont know much Band of Horses but love it every time they sing a lick or note or or..
That said my ears are thinking The Oh Hellos are going to be the cant miss sleeper set. (<< Muscle car reference for Holy SHit I cant believe that harmless looking car just took me off the line!) Cookie bet on the Oh Hellos.
Mark - Mandolin Orange.. good call. We'll be there!!
On the wow can't believe I almost think i'm starting to like them note.. Lucious has some really nice harmonies. Cant get past the look though..
I put off listening to Lucius for the longest time because of their "look." Pretty happy that I finally got past that hold up though. They put on a fantastically fun show and I could see them as the sleeper set.
Speaking of the Oh Hellos, the second biggest conflict for me: The Oh Hellos vs. John C Reilly. The Oh Hellos are going to win out because they've been this years big discovery for me. But I would love to be able to enjoy a whole John C Reilly set (instead, I'm going to squeeze in the first 10-20 minutes before running over to The Oh Hellos).
I still don't know how the Oh Hellos are not more popular than they are. They need to get with a better promoter, because they have the chops to be up there with bands like The Head and the Heart and the Lumineers.

Also, I haven't decided if I'm going to try to push into the tent for the Oh Hellos or enjoy the hell out of the set from the lawn (that might determine if I get to catch any of John C Reilly or not).
All I know is I am going to dance it out to the last two minutes of this song.
Okay, some logistical questions for those of you who have been going to NFF for a while now.
I'm thinking of setting up shop each day for a more relaxing experience. A place to treat as a home base. Last year I brought in chairs and it made for a great experience; this year I'm thinking of bringing in a cooler as well. Is there any reason I won't be able to make my favorite mixed drink prior to heading in each day, put it in a discrete juice bottle (or something of the sorts to match the color), and then throw it in my cooler? I don't remember security being too strict, and surely they won't smell each drink I bring in, right? (I'll leave the vagina vodka up to the rest of you magicians!)

I'm with you on this one. The beer prisons are just too harsh.
Yep, between the prisons (and the loudmouths), the lines, and the prices, I'm considering all options
But I'm sure I'll still find my way to the pier prison. That one at least has a great view. And I don't think I tried Newport Storm last year, so I'll be sure to do that.
