Didn't see a thread for this, so figured I would start it. Dates are the same as usual, first weekend of August (August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.)
Never been, seriously considering it this year. I have never been to Chicago either. I am huge baseball guy, would like to see Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular Field. The Cubs play the day before Lollapalooza, The White Sox play the day after. I would also like to get up to the casino as well (Maybe Thursday after the game, and/or Monday before the game.) I will have to convince a buddy or two to go with me, they are all huge bonnaroo guys (as am I) so we will see.
For those that I have been, what do you recommened for tickets/hotel? I was thinking the best way to go would be to get a hotel with-in walking distance to the train station, and just ride it everywhere. Don't know if that is a good idea or not.
Glad to already see the Arctic Monkeys confirm. I'm doing study abroad this summer, so I am not for sure if I will be able to afford the trip. I will be back in early June, so I should be able to work for awhile and swing the trip.
Out of possible headliners I would be happy to see Outkast, Beck, anything with Jack White, Kings of Leon (even though everybody rags on them)

find it strange that Roo or Lolla prolly won't be getting Arcade Fire. But I would love for Kings of Leon too. saw them at hangout last year and def got their act together was an amazing amazing show, already have tickets for their tour with gary clark

Super jealous. I'm pretty tight on finances right now, and there not doing a show close to me. If they would have did a Charlotte show I would have gave in.

If Pearl Jam is not 1 or 2, I will lick the Buckingham Fountain! Vedder's ties to Chicago, the sold- out wrigley show, the appearances in South America, and their history with Lolla plus their new album make them a shoe- in.
The big question is about Arcade Fire. The fact they pass Chicago once in February and then again in April through the Midwest and play the show 3 + weeks after Lolla in Chicago makes them very possible still. I doubt those ticket sales will suffer at all due up their popularity in Chicago.
My prediction Timberlake(S) v KoL(n) Arcade Fire(S) v Sacraficial lamb Pearl Jam(S) v DJ- deadmau5- something like that
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest

When I think Eddie Vedder, I think Chicago.
Zero chance Arcade Fire is there. None whatsoever.

I sure hope you're right. Seen them last month and it was one of the top 3 shows I have ever seen. I can only imagine them at Lolla.
I don't think AF will be at Lolla, but bands have been coming back to Chicago very shortly after the fest in recent years. Phoenix played a show at the Aragon at the end of September after headling the festvial just a month and a half earlier.
Went in 2011 and 2012 and skipped this year because none of my friends wanted to go.. Really missing the lolla experience lately, so depending on the lineup I might make the trek solo.
My personal feelings about the headliners aside, this just isn't a Perry lineup. And Beck isn't a headliner.
if his new album blows up (I know it won't, but IF) he could squeak into Lola HL spot IMO. Of course, I've never been and know nothing about it besides there's a lot of music stuff. That happens there and stuff

I think Beck could close a main stage opposite a bigger act at Lolla. In the past Wilco, Justice, deadmau5, Phoenix (prior to them blowing up), My Morning Jacket, ect. all have closed one of the two big stages while another act played opposite. I'd say Becks popularity is on par if not greater than those acts.

Agreed. Beck could close the North stage.
Def. and putting him against JT like in that mock is pretty realistic.
I agree that Arcade Fire is doubtful. But considering people play Chi all the time after Lolla and the set from 2010, was rated by Lolla as a top five set of Lolla all time. They sure are possible. People play multiple shows in Chicago all the time, it is the same as playing the UC weeks apart plus considering 50% of Lolla- goers are from out if state. The ticket pool is completely different. They pass through the American Midwest twice. Wh y wait for Chicago after Lolla.? They play the Barclays three times for comparison.

You are correct that bands have been doing this more and more frequently, but it does impact ticket sales. Phoenix played Chicago a month and a half after their Lolla appearance this year, and it clearly had a major impact on their draw. They were originally supposed to play to UIC Pavilion (capacity approx 7k) and had to be downgraded to the Aragon (capacity 4500) which only sold out the day before the show. I'm not expecting such a big band to make this mistake again.
Beck is definitely big enough to headline the north stage at Lolla.
This time last summer I would have agreed with you, but after how poorly he drew at Newport Folk Fest I'm skeptical. In a right and just world he'd be a main headliner.
