Yeah but Bjork was in the top 5 in the Roo lineup, I went to their set for a little bit and the crowd was pretty thin. I heard from multiple people that The Postal Service set at Lolla last summer was pretty light as far as the crowd. I don't think Beck drawing small crowds would make a huge difference.

You are right, in 2011 Eminem had a huge crowd and MMJ was playing to nearly nothing. Doesn't change a thing. Beck makes perfect sense as a 5/6 playing against 1/2.
What are the chances Lolla goes 1-2 with pearl jam and Metallica? PJ and Metallica new stuff in same year- perfect timing. Fits the demo and I have my doubts about timberlake due to Lolla being the fourth Chicago show in a 13 month span. I am feeling something like this right now.
Metallica (s) v Beck ( n) Outkast (s) v KoL (n) PJ (s) v Deadmau5 (n)
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest

That would be amazing...for me at least. To see Beck/Outkast/Pearl Jam all in one weekend, damn.
I'm not counting out PJ just because of Eddie's ties to Chicago, but it seems unlikely. Played Wrigley this past summer and are currently finishing an U.S. tour.
A wrigley show 13 months ago hardly discounts PJ. That rationale would definitely scratch out timberlake with soldier field and two UC shows in 13 months. PJ is just a wish right now. They have no dates past Australia early 2014. A festival/ summer tour will be announced probably early 2014, including euro and American fests- just guessing. When was the last time PJ played Roo? PJ could be on the farm. PJ could be the Lolla/Roo crossover.

Ha. "Just because no one would be at his set doesn't mean he's not a headliner." Way to go guys. Way to dream big.

I do think the fact that he was headlining Newport Folk Fest could have had an impact on the crowd size. He had a large crowd closing a stage at ACL albeit in '08. I wonder what kind of a draw he was at Outside Lands?

I think if Beck can't succeed at Newport Folk, he's not a headliner.
But anyway, my real problem with this mock lineup is that it's far too old.

So Lollapalooza updated their cover photo on FB and said the dates were the 2nd - 4th...which would mean Saturday - Monday. I can't see that being right, who would have shows all day on a Monday?

Hearing rumors from source, that Pearl Jam is closing their lightning bolt tour at lollapalooza 2014. Take it for what it is worth but I believe this guy. I am penciling in pearl jam in on Sunday night to close the festival.

It's assumed. They haven't played Chicago in years and they're almost the only band left who headlined Lolla when it was a travelling festival in the 90s that hasn't played the current format.

I'm not a big JT fan, but that's definitely on me. Still, they're nabbing him at the end of a long tour and it'll be his 4th show in Chicago in 2 years (plus looking at his tour dates he can really only play Friday, which is strange to me, he'd be a better fit on Saturday). Pearl Jam is great but are not tough to catch live. Metallica is the only band that hasn't played North America extensively in recent years, but I'm sure a lot of fans caught them at Orion in Detroit last year.
I feel like this top 3 is significantly older than your average Lolla headliners.

JT and all the untz going on at Perry's will keep the kiddies coming out in droves.

My source is a friend that told me early about the pearl jam show at wrigley before those rumors dropped last year. I believe him. Take it for what it is worth.
JT playing a fourth Chicago show seems like a stretch to me. PJ, Metallica, JT, and kings of leon would mirror 2011 with a huge top 4. That means 5 and 6 will be smaller/first time headliner. Arctic monkeys could possibly be in the top 6.
Timberlake v KoL Metallica v Foster the People Pearl Jam v DJ- Somebody I won't see

If we had two of these: Pearl Jam/Outkast/Beck/Foster The People/Pretty Lights then I would happy with the headliners, as long as they would not be going against each other.
Would kill for Pearl Jam/Outkast to be on that lineup.

FTP and Pretty Lights could not headline (as in close one of the two main stages).

I was just talking about bands that would be top 6 on the lineup. I doubt if FTP played they would be, but I could see PL.

Pretty Lights could for sure close out a main stage, and FTP closed out Firefly fest last year.

Did you really just try to compare Firefly and Lolla as festivals? FTP could maybe sub-headline depending how their next album does. Pretty Lights could close Perry's, but no way they would let him close a main stage.

I'm a noob to Lolla, so this may be a stupid question.
If FTP played Lolla, is it more likely that they play at the same time as a headliner or that they play before a headliner?
If Lolla books four big headliners like they did in 2011 then I could see Pretty Lights closing the north stage one night. That's what happened with Deadmau5 that year and in 2012 Justice and Avicci headlined and at this point I think Pretty Lights is on basically on par with them popularity wise.

It worked with Deadmau5 in 2011, but then totally flopped w/Justice and Avicii in 2012 (both sets were as empty as I've ever seen a headlining set a Lolla). They kept all the untz confined to Perry's last year and outside of them booking Daft Punk again, I can't see another EDM act getting a main stage headlining slot.

Agreed, between North Coast, Spring Awakening, EDC (Are they having this again?), and Wavefront (Are they having this either?) I think an EDM act would only close Perry's unless it was a spectacular get.
2014 Festivals:
Ultra Music Festival Buenos Aires
A State of Trance Buenos Aires
Ultra Music Festival Miami
EDC Las Vegas
Bonnaroo
Electric Forest
Lollapalooza
Absent a groundbreaking new album (which strikes me as unlikely) they're a pre-headliner at best.
should be a new album out or announced album date by lolla, they played 5 new songs at firefly and haven't toured at all and posted a tweet about rehearsing with a picture of them rehearsing so I feel like we can expect a new album within the next 6-7 months.
