Would completely disagree that Lolla is below Coach or Roo. It's all about your tastes. I thought Coachella's top 3/4 was a joke last year. Sorry I know Blur is cool to like on this board but I have no urge to see them at all. Stone Roses? Don't know one song. RHCP? Nah I'm good since they played everywhere in the US (some places twice) in 2012. Nine Inch Nails are better than anyone that Coach booked last year. Sure that's my opinion but if you're talking selling tickets and the draw a big festival has, Lolla is right on the same level.
Putting your terribly obtuse taste in music aside, you're dead on with your tiering of festivals. Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and ACL are the "big 4" American festivals. I'd probably put them in that order, as well, in terms of prestige/cachet. Right below you've got events like Governor's Ball, Outside Lands, Voodoo, maybe Sasquatch, probably Ultra as well. After that come your Fireflys, Hangouts, etc. Then you start to get into the more specific regional fests, like MOEMS, Moog, Pitchfork, Newport Folk, various "hippie" fests, and the like.

Says the person who has Trent Reznor as your background
If Lolla came out with Metallica, Kanye, Coldplay and Outkast it would be like the biggest headliners of any fest in the states. It could be argued that each one of those is a bigger draw than the Cure. I see Lolla as one tier below Coachella and roo.
I think people are missing my point. Im not saying that Blur or Stone Roses are shitty bands at all. I dont personally listen to them but okay thats just me. Coachella makes sense for them. Whoever mentioned the small crowd at NIN is proving my point. Bands like that dont make you stand out to a casual listener who make up most of the ticket buyers. Lolla sold out in 3 hrs last yr. For the numbers they pull day to day, that should show all u need to know.

You misread what I said about Stone Roses pulling the same size crowd as NIN.
Coachella sells the same number of tickets as Lolla (counting both weekends) in roughly the same amount of time.
Edit: Sorry, I was confused by your initial comment, because you said some silly stuff about Blur and Stone Roses sucking and NIN being better than any of the Coach headliners. Lolla is roughly similar to Coachella and Bonnaroo, I think everyone agrees, but most people would put it third or forth.

Ranking the big 3 festivals is like say coke is better than Pepsi and getting fussy about it. The lineups are always on par. Each fest has advantages over the other. Roo probably has the biggest budget due to the insane revenue of tix and camping. But who wants to be on a farm in June in tn(I'm from Nashville and still live there- love it) in 90 degree heat. Coachella is coachella- the most prestigious fest in America- agreed. Lolla has the city/sky line, after shows and better crowds due to dueling acts/headliners.
Lollas lineup in 2012 sucked IMO, coachella was terrible last year IMO. Roo has been bring it for years now. That said Lolla is still my favorite.
This is a stupid argument to have boys and girls. Different strokes.

^this. Being the third best festival in the U.S. is a pretty good deal to me. Plus, I don't think the organizers give a shit since it looks like tickets are going to sell out every year because it's "hip." But who really cares because we all know The Hangout is the best festival in the world.

The big lure of Lollapalooza, to me, is being able to do hoodrat shit with my friends in Chicago's college district after the actual festival.
Not that the festival itself isn't outstanding.
Right? I dig Chi fests cuz they're in the city and don't go til 3am. I'm all about that late nite trip to the Billy Goat or the Empty Bottle
When I went in '12 I stayed at a student-only hostel on Damen and 16th. I could literally look down from the rooftop at any time and see something insanely fun to do.

Obviously you have never visited Hangout fantasy land thread- where everything in your dreams can come true.
It is definitely not a good thing to be linked to the HMF thread- completely as a joke of course.
Hangout's vibe and location is the best of a fest in my opinion- so that is serious.
I thought there was an understanding we were fucking kidding. HMF is only #1 if you are talking about best Gulf Coast fests, lets be real. Location means nothing when the lineup sucks.

Jokes of course! But a beach vibe is seriously good. That says nothing about the lineup. Hangout a lineup is fine, the location sells the fest for me. I wouldn't travel anywhere else for a B rated fest.
