Wow Im shocked that Arctic Monkeys are a headliner. I know their popularity in the US has really skyrocketed this year....but its just weird that a band that's barely in Firefly's top 10 is a Lolla headliner.
To be fair, Greg Kot has a slightly broader definition of headliner than most here would use. For example, when he leaked the headliners last year, these were the names he dropped:
Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and the Killers will be among the headliners for Lollapalooza in Grant Park on Aug. 2-4.
Also confirmed by multiple industry sources are the National and the Postal Service (a reunion of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello on the 10-year anniversary of their million-selling debut, “Give Up”). Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents said it would officially announce the lineup next month. “Early bird” tickets for the festival go on sale next Tuesday.
My interpretation of this announcement is that AM will fill the VW slot from last year, playing before the stage closer that makes the most sense. If that's true and Skrillex is on a mainstage this year (likely), I'm guessing we have three more headliners yet to be announced. Hopefully they're three acts I want to see and they're playing on three different nights.
So much for Kanye Coldplay and Tool huh? I've seen two of these headliners play inside a 1500 capacity club within the last 6months. This is not a hugely major festival.
With that said, if the Replacements play............. I'll go.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
and I don't like eminem and don't care for skrillex much and don't care for arctic monkeys, so 1 out of the 4 headliners. good job dude.
Chill out man, I'm just playing. The big disappointment of all this is that everyone had their hopes up for Kanye, one of the best performers out there, and he got swapped out for Eminem, one of the worst. Everyone SHOULD be disappointed by that, not tut-tuted. The other three don't really bother me at all.

Meh. I'll be teaching the second half of the summer, but I had some friends who are (were?) going so I was considering a plane ticket. Now, though, it would have to be a hell of a remaining lineup for me to go. I love Eminem's classic music (one of my favs), and even some of his new music, but his live show at Roo was mediocre. His Coachella appearance (during the Dre/Snoop set) was better, but I wouldn't expect something like that. Kings of Leon haven't put out a good album in a decade, Skrillex is blech, and Arctic Monkeys are cool, but I don't understand all the hype they get. Plus Skrillex and AM will be at Roo, so I'd get that fix anyway (if I wanted it). Even Outkast and PJ wouldn't get me there at this point- PJ is fantastic, but I just saw them a few months ago, and I'll get to see Outkast at Coachella and Hangout already.
We're gonna get PJ added to this so that's gonna give this a nice bump, basically we're swapping out Kanye for Eminem when compared to what we were expecting. I personally actively listened to Eminem way more growing up obviously but Kanye would prob put on a better production. Either way I have no problem with Eminem. Question is, if AM gets bumped to the Vamp Weekend slot like last year, are we in for another rockier HLer? If not, I can def roll with PJ-Eminem-Outkast-KoL- SKrillex- AM
I'm really not too hopeful for Outkast now... as mentioned earlier it would be their third show in three days which is the tightest crunch of their entire schedule. I'd love to be proven wrong here.. they have got to do Chicago somehow.

They're doing three in a row in Scandinavia the next week.

Watch, the remaining headliners are Pearl Jam, OutKast, Daft Punk.
I'm not freaking out yet. For my tastes, we are just about where we were at this point last year. Swap Arctic Monkeys for Vampire Weekend, KoL for Killers, Skrillex for Phoenix, and Mumford for Eminem, and we've got my same level of apathy. Lolla needs to add a NIN and The Cure level name for me to care, though.
I'm just hoping the lineup gets released before I decide to buy tickets this year. Not hopeful, but it would be helpful.

Daft Punk ain't happening
Obviously. I was saying this because I thought it would be funny in juxtaposition with all of the people in a mad rush to cancel their hotel reservation.

Its a shame Eminem doesn't decide to be good live. Get a solid backing band and don't lip sync. He can easily produce one of the better setlists in hip-hop.
