Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
IMO there are far more talented artists out there. Beyoncé is talented, but it doesn't seem like a bonnaroo headliner to me. If you want to see her, why not grab a tick to see her in the Staples center or maybe somewhere in Miami where they love that kind of talent.
Beyonce went platinum in a week. People love her everywhere.
I can confirm Beyonce is massive here. She recently did a four-night run here at Olympic Park and sold out the 21,000-seat arena each night.
She has quite a following in Japan too, as I understand.
I heard that Beiber guy sold lots of albums too...
there are a lot of platinum artists who sell a ton of albums that I would NEVER want to see at Roo. Album sales do not quantify greatness. I just think more people want to see somebody like a Prince shred on the guitar than watch some pop star dance around the stage shaking those enormous hips and singing "single ladies". I mean, she's not even in the lead in your poll with similar acts, now throw her in a poll with REAL headliners and see how many votes she gets.
Nothing wrong with with loving her and/or her music, but it just seems weird to think of her on the farm, period.
First, Beiber doesn't sell near as well as Beyonce, that's ignorant. All pop music is not the same. Second, the whole premise of this thread is "IF another pop singer headlined Bonnaroo (Stevie Wonder has already done so successfully), who would you like it to be?" Stopping by and waving your d*ck around talking about how you like REAL music isn't very helpful.
I never gave my definition of what "real" music was. I just wonder why you picked the artists that you did. There have been a lot of "pop" artists to headline at bonnaroo, hell most of them were. If you have to choose 2 from the list, of course that's to each ones discretion. I'll be honest, I haven't listened to a lot of Beyoncé's music, my opinion is solely based on what I've heard, and that music is far from what "I" believe the bonnaroo experience is all about. I already purchased my ticket for this year so I don't really care if she headlined or not, I just don't see it happening. I'm not saying all I want to see is jam bands or even indie bands, I just think that artists that use a headset and occasionally lip sync should not play at bonnaroo. Is Beyoncé a great singer? I personally don't think so. Is she a talented performer? Sure. I just don't pay to watch people dance around, that's just me. As for just "talent" alone, a lot of people in your pole are far more talented at this moment in life, that might change moving forward of course. As of right now I'd put her at #7 on your list behind, Elton, Joel, JT, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Adele.
Again this is just MY opinion, not trying to wave my wenis around.
You think the three most talented people in the poll are Elton, Billy Joel, and JT. Typical.
Like I said, it's just MY opinion. Elton John and Billy Joel are amazing performers. Billy Joel is one of the greatest singer/ song writers of all time. He's the third best selling solo artists in the US. The man has done it all. His accolades eclipse Beyoncé's by far, and Elton John trumps his. JT is an amazing performer/artist, the guy can do it all. Honestly, although he might be the worlds largest douche bag, Beiber is a more talented musician than Beyoncé. She lip syncs and doesn't even write her own songs, what makes her so great? If it wasn't for her husband she wouldn't even be a blip on the map. She's decent but not legendary like Billy and Elton.

I mostly agree with this, although I do think you're overselling Billy Joel a bit. However...

This part is just ridiculous. While I'm not exactly a fan, Beyonce can absolutely hold her own, and in no way is it fair to reduce her success to the work of her husband. In fact, Jay & Beyonce might actually be the most guarded A-list celebrity couple I can think of.
Destiny's Child was already a major pop act long before Beyonce even met Jay. She sells out stadiums on her own merits.

So you think even if Bieber writes his own songs, which I doubt, that they are somehow more meaningful than Beyonce's work? Do you even know who Destiny's Child are? Your argument saying Beyonce wasn't big before she got married sounds dumb. The Writing's on the Wall sold about 6.5 million copies and went 8 times platinum in the US in 1999. Jay Z and Beyonce didn't even collab until 2002. Also Bieber hasn't even come close in album sales. Beyonce may not be legendary like Elton John or Billy Joel, but is at the same level as JT IMO.

Alright dude, let's take this from the top.
1. You should really be careful about making proclamations you know nothing about. Beyonce won an ASCAP songwriter of the year award.
2. "If it wasn't for her husband she wouldn't even be a blip on the map." This is a horrible thing to say. It's also completely inaccurate as she was an established megastar before marrying Jay Z. But thanks for validating my (admittedly) dickish comment about you only liking music made by men.
3. This is the big one. You're clearly new to the boards, and judging by the Jimmy Page & Prince Superjam wishlist, fairly new to Bonnaroo. I'd very much advise against going around preaching to people what Bonnaroo is and isn't about. Those of us who have been attending since the beginning have heard it all. Dave Matthews isn't what Bonnaroo is all about, Radiohead isn't Bonnatoo Headliner. Jay-Z will ruin Bonnaroo. People made the same arguments about them you're making now about pop music. And guess what, Bonnaroo goes on, and if you ask around I'm sure you'll find people around here who only went Bonnaroo to see JayZ or something and got hooked on the experience. Bonnaroo will book anyone with talent. That includes the occasional pop star. Next year there might even be a country headliner! Not my cup I tea, but you won't hear me claiming that they don't belong or making gross generalization about country artists that have no factual basis.

Thank goodness for this thread. I voted Sir Elton John and Beyoncé and I wont take anything back. I'm enjoying all the Beyonce love on this thread and thank you everyone who's supporting her against some of these ridiculous accusations. Also, JT would be my third and yes, Adele can sing but I don't know that she would amp up the crowd as much.
Honestly, and this isn't pop music and it'll go in multiple other threads before it's all said and done but I really just want Sir Elton and MMJ so Jim and E can sing Rocketman together. We can all agree on this, at least, right?

Oh sweet Jesus, such great heights of stupidity we can achieve when embroiling ourselves in subjects we know nothing about.
I could not care less how many albums she has sold, whether she writes her own songs, or who she is married to. I do not enjoy her final product. Talented to some degree? Yep. On par with Billy Joel or Elton John? I don't think so.

I remember a day when Beyonce would be called R&B. People's expectations and genre breakdowns in music have become so over-generalized. The term Pop might be accurate but it's also somewhat diminishing

This is correct.
See this is where people who say "everyone's entitled to their opinion, man, back off," are wrong. If your opinion is based on lies, rumors, bad facts, or poor logic - there's nothing wrong with pointing that out so people can make an informed opinion. Then if they still think it sucks, well, that's cool.

I agree, if somebody has some facts that are flat out wrong, I see no problem in pointing that out. I do have a problem with, not only pointing out things that are factually incorrect, but also lamenting on what an idiot that person is. Or other snide, condescending, or rude comments towards the person.
Quick questions... who the hell goes to bonnaroo to hear "vocalists"? Lady Gaga having a castle on the stage? Are we talking about the same fest?
Only a few of the artists on this list have a shot at headlining and Beyoncé nor Adele are either of them for Christ sake. The only two I could see being the actual headliners would be Elton and JT, although I don't even think JT could pull it off without help from a Jay-Z type.
Gibran, just a quick question. How do you view the above quoted post?
Rude, snide, condescending all come to mind for me. The dude set the tone from the beginning.
And, I'm seriously getting tired of not being able to have an honest discussion about certain "pop" artists, which would include warranted criticisms of an artist, without someone charging in, (ripping through the screen door of our mansion!) and screaming at all of us that we're a bunch of idiots for even thinking artists like Beyonce or Gaga are worthy headliners. And Gaga is happening this year (all signs are indicating a go) and we still can't have a meaningful respectful discussion of pop musicians without mindless ill-informed opinions springing up all the time. I would just love to actually talk music, learn something, share something, without all the judgmental needless hate. Something we do around here for every other genre.

How do I view the post above. I view it as an opinion. It makes no personal references to any members intelligence. If somebody disagrees with his opinion, fine. He also asked a few questions in there. I rarely "burst through any screen doors" until personal attacks or rude comments are directed at a member. Mostly because that is what I am here for. Discussion is great. Insinuating somebody is dumb, idiotic, or stupid is not so great.
this Kanye argument is starting to sound like the Beyonce argument.. I mean. some people don't like her. get over it. I actually like Beyonce and I would probably see her if she played roo, but it's definitely not a top priority. I can totally understand that some people wouldn't want to see her.
Adele is a phenomenal vocalist, but I don't think that would translate well to the main stage, she plays with a minimal band and theres really no stage show that accompanies her. Its just her standing at a mic. Again I love her, she is a fantastic artist/vocalist but as a headliner blah
