The 10th annual Mountain Jam festival will take place June 5-8th 2014, at Hunter Mountain New York
Feel free to discuss rumors / confirmations, hotels & camping, and any other info that will be of use to those making the trip this year!
Confirmed: Bob Weir & RatDog, Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Dark Star Orchestra, Blitzen Trapper, the Avett Brothers, and Jeff Tweedy (solo set)
With bacon's suggestion, I went VIP to MJ 2011. It was amaaaazing. And I do have to say that if you want to camp you either need to do VIP (WORTH ITTT), or get there as early as you possibly can. GA camping is on an incline. The first campers can finagle flat spots while everyone else camps on an angle. Looked muy no bueno to me. LD can speak more to lodging in the area if you're looking to take a hotel route. Or maybe Flanz knows a little about the area (though he doesn't stay in a hotel when he goes).
I had to miss this last year due to a wedding, but I am achin' to get back to the mountain And if I do, I'll likely be VIP ("Jammer"?).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Yeah, it looks like Jammer is the standard VIP option. There is also a "Supper Jammer" ($1800 4-day camping) and an "Ultimate Jammer" (call for pricing).
They also offer a "Mountaintop car camping" option that is $200 compared to the $100 standard option. Do you know if this was always available?

When I was there two years ago, there was a small section of camping at the top of the slope where the music et al was, but I thoooought it was all RVs. Either that changed or it's both? Either way, I am sure it sells out SUPER fast.
Here's a random picture:
Camping on the left. You can see the base lodge. Go up a taaaad and you can see the two main stages side by side. Moving up the slope, you can see the three white VIP viewing areas on the left and then continue up and you can see the brown cross trail/road. Where that cross trail crosses the main slope is where that mountaintop camping is (again.. things might have changed)

2014 probably won't be it though. The lineup would have to blow me away for it to be under consideration. Right now I have my pick of one festival outside of Newport. If I'm lucky, one outside Newport and Freefest. So that means having to debate between MOEMS, Mt Jam, and perhaps Osheaga.

First guess/wishlist: Phish - My Morning Jacket - String Cheese Incident
..You do know this is Warren Hayne's festival? A headliner list without Gov't Mule is just wrong. (And I don't see Phish there)
Hah, I do! They're a given, and would probably be 4th in that lineup. Phish is unlikely, but being that prices increased (again) and it's the 10 year fest anniversary, I wouldn't be shocked at all

I still think Phish is pushing it.. but considering the $100 hike for VIP since 2012 (I missed 2013) and that last year was the first year Gov't Mule wasn't billed first (they were 3rd).. MJ is obviously stepping to stay competitive in the festival circuit.

My dad is considering going VIP to Mountain Jam. Looks like it's definitely worth it but I just wanted to see what you guys think.
Also, I've always wanted to do a fest with him so maybe...
The festival is awesome and I've heard VIP is totally worth it. Camping on the hill is alright but a bit annoying at times. I've camped at the bottom of the mountain and it was better but everyone says VIP is the way to go. The festival itself is really great. It's small enough to split up and easily meet back up and has barely any conflicts. There is a small acoustic stage hidden to the side of the two main stages and then there's an indoor stage so those two separate places have some acts going during the day. The main acts, though, are all up on the two main stages and that creates no wait time between sets. One can be broken down and set up while the other one is being used. It's really awesome watching the headliners on the mountain at night filled up. It's not the same as the pit at Bonnaroo but it's still amazing. Also really easy to get close for stuff.

As previously mentioned, I went VIP in 2012 per Bacon's suggestion. It was totally worth it. There is the ideal camping like ITM said. Most GA campers have to camp on a incline, while VIP is the flat ground at the bottom of the hill. All super close too- easy to run back to grab a sweatshirt or chug a beer in between sets. Free "hot" showers and we use the bathrooms in the base lodge, so yay for real, flushable toilets! (And lots of real sinks). VIP pit per usual, and never full. Like ITM said, the two main stages are right next to each other so it's just one big VIP pit which takes up half of the front of each stage. There are three covered VIP viewing areas moving up the side of the hill (it rained a lot in 2012, so these were key). Most importantly, food and booze. From 1:00 until the music ended, there was free food. The entire day, every day. And it was good! Food changed every few hours. There even was shrimp cocktail in the afternoon. There was also a little side table with bottled drinks (Honest Teas mostly) and bags of pita chips, multigrain tortillas and such that you could take out of VIP with you. As much as you want. The VIP bar had discounted booze. Beer (Red hook) was 4 bucks. As you know a $4 IPA is unheard of for us even at a regular bar around here, so that was fabuloso. Wine was 4 or so as well. I never got hard liquor from the bar. There were also nice little trailer bathrooms in the VIP area-Sinks, AC and all.

I can't help but think, with this announcement today regarding Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks - you'll see the Allman Brothers up on the mountain. Which could also mean Tedeschi Trucks Band too.
Welp, I already bought Mountain Jam tix, but I would think Outkast is a lock for that too, right? Same state, same weekend, vibes and shit....
I'm thinking they are out of Mountain Jam's price range and also just not a good fit (if this was serious at all). I think we'll end up getting a Big Allman Brothers farewell show considering it's Warren's festival.
yeah, I was just messin around ITM, but I agree that Allmans are a lock. Are you going? (figured I'd take the convo over here)
I wouldn't be surprised to see something like .. Allman Bros - String Cheese Incident - Mule - Rat Dog
I'm waiting on lineups for both Gov's Ball and this. Depending on how it goes, I'd do a day pass for either one or the other. Can't really afford to do much more than that this year.

Apparently certain prices have gone way up (RV stuff I think?) and there's also talk of the two main stages being changed so that there's only one main stage....meaning conflicting sets for the bigger acts unlike previous years where one was setting up/breaking down while the other one played. Not 100% on this but i've been reading about it on their message boards (which were forced to move) and facebook page.

Yeah, it seems like it's pretty much confirmed that the stages are now split. I'm bummed I never got to see the side by side setup. Hopefully they don't blow the scheduling
