Great weekend. Too much walking for me. Blisters from Saturday
Awesome music.
Got to catch a good amount of Phoenix and the full Outkast set. Amazing. I loved every second of it. The stage setup, the interplay, the smiles on their faces. Good stuff.
Saturday was awesome as well. Lucius and Chance the Rapper were solid. The Childish Gambino set was really good and I love that he's got a full band. Too damn hot and squishy up close for that though. Tons of teens complaining about things and then doing the same shit they were complaining about. Jack White was a great finish to the night.
Sunday was more laid back but had a lot of good shows. Some surprise covers too. I didn't think I'd be hearing Tom Petty and Aaliyah covers at the festival but they put a smile on my face. Vampire Weekend kicked all kinds of ass. One of those shows where you know ALL the songs they play and they still deliver an awesome set.
Now to heal my blisters and legs in preparation for Roo.
ALso....met up with chicken4. Had a good time at the final sets of the day with him. James Blake was good but a bit sleepy (and suffered from some noise bleed) and Interpol kicked ass.
Phoenix absolutely killed it. So awesome to hear Love Like A Sunset right as the sun was setting. Outkast was great but I was too far back. Although I did love that despite being so freaking far away, even the people at the very back were going nuts for them. I left after maybe 8 songs to go catch Damon and Im so glad I did. It was the polar opposite experience from what I had at Outkast; the crowd was pretty small but everyone there seemed like big Damon fans. Kinda wish he played longer, I was able to stay till the end and still go catch like 4 more Outkast songs. I also saw Bastille and Jenny Lewis and they were both pretty good as well.

I'm sitting in a hostel in Baltimore decompressing the weekend and I definitely think I had a better time at GovBall this year than Lollapalooza in 2012. Jack White was great in 2012 but I didn't really know his solo stuff as well as I do now. Lazaretto and Just One Drink are great songs live. I think his new album will be full of hits. Also, in 2012 I believe he didn't play Icky Thump, my favorite Stripes song. He also just seemed to enjoy his set on Saturday.
Although camping festivals seem to be my preference, I'd definitely return to NYC next June if they released a lineup as strong as this years. A lot of the crowd seemed like they were there just to get drunk and "be there." There were some genuine moments where the crowd made the experience better though. Off the top of my head I can think of Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, and that Earlwolf aftershow. The only issue I had with the festival was that the schedule was released a little late for my comfort. If that's the only major problem I can think of, I'd say it was a damn good time overall. It was a great lead up to Cut Copy tomorrow and Bonnaroo at the end of the week.
Had an awesome time! Was such a great warm up for Roo next year and killed a TON of conflicts
1. Diarrhea Planet 2. Vampire Weekend 3. TV On the Radio 4. Classixx 5. Banks
Holy shit did Diarrhea Planet kill it. For those that were lucky to make it there early for their show saturday it was insane. The security guard ended up jumping in the mosh pit at the end. Guitarists were crowd surfing while another was climbing the scaffolding and shredding. Pure Rock n Roll and i am absolutely going to attempt to catch their set at Bonnaroo.
Vampire Weekend also blew my expectations. Every song they played was on point and their stage set up and production was really amazing. Gov Ball knew what they were doing closing the fest with them
Real fun to hang out with itrainmonkeys and catch a lot of sets with him. Hopefully that kid with that Green Shirt at Vampire Weekend is alright, would hate for me giving him a little corn be the beyond tipping point.... although he seemed to be beyond it already.

Nothing like seeing someone dancing and bumping into people while drooling a fountain from their mouth.

Saturday was by far the best day. The Strokes into Spoon into Jack White was just beyond amazing. Phoenix and Outkast killed it on Friday too, Janlle Monae was also fantastic. Sunday was okay, Interpol are pretty one-note at this point and Vampire Weekend are pretty boring. Volume for Banks was way too low that I lost interest.
