I'm just praying he closes with "Carolina drama". Easily my favorite song he's part of. Song is so epic.
^This was the case when I saw him at Webster Hall and it was about as awesome as you would expect.
[Correction: I was mistaken. Carolina Drama was near the end of his set, but not the last song.]
However, I'm wondering how songs like Carolina Drama will translate into a "headliner" set. Does the general population know the post-White Stripes, nonsingle material?

I'm pretty sure the raconteurs ended with it in 08. Though his solo for "many shades of black" was the highlight of the show. Jeez. I was so pumped for last years headliners. Probably more pumped this year. This year rules.
Looking through his setlists of the past year, he usually ends—either in the encore or base set—with Seven Nation Army. I've seen videos of his new backup band doing that song, it made me fall in love with it again.

I in the pit for his set at Freefest 2012, and it was solid. He seemed a little bit colder than usual, but the band was on, the setlist was great, and he has amazing chemistry with The Peacocks. The prospect of hearing new, adventurous material like Blunderbuss live has me ecstatic for his Roo set.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.
So, it's been 2 years since Blunderbuss, and White has stated that he's working on a new solo project along with the next Dead Weather record and some sort of Neil Young collaboration. I expect we'll see a good amount of new stuff. Part of me doubts this set will mimic the Blunderbuss tour. Guess we'll have to wait until the Free Press festival to find out.
Excited for Jack but I never seen him solo. What material does his solo shows consist of?
Jack is famous for his lack of a set list. So it can be a toss-up. Tends to be a blend of White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather, and stuff from Blunderbuss.
Not gonna lie that I started to just bawl when he was announced. Don't laugh at me. I have two friends who work at Third Man and I had asked them a couple months ago if he was considering the festival and they said maybe. Well then.

You must have missed Blue Veins then. That performance endures as the greatest display of guitar playing I have ever seen. And I am not taking anything away from Shades, which was also incredible.
This set will be legendary. There is no way, Jack does his standard set at the best festival in the country, 90 minutes from his house.
Do not miss this. Get drunk, get close and get rowdy.
I'm heavily considering waiting in line for the pit for Jack's set. I never thought there'd be an artist so personally amazing that I would want to miss so many others, but this might be it.
Not sure you'll have to wait in line very long to get in the pit for this considering some people got in the pit for PP, Wilco and Macca last year... I may show up a half hour-45 mins before and see if I can get in. The Kanye pit may be a different story

So long as there isn't a MUST SEE on a different stage directly before jack white I think I'll give the pit a shot too. Did the pit for dead weather in 2010 and it was my favorite show of the festival

I really think like 80% of the people at the festival have no idea how the pit works.

I'll be in the pit the moment it opens. Jack is one of the very few artists who honestly I have an emotional connection to him and his music and I will sacrifice my whole day for him.

I'd like to have a nice spot though.. And I'll be quite far from the pit during Kanye
I also highly recommend Conan's 1 hour 15 minute interview with Jack on Conan's online series, Serious Jibber-Jabber. I discovered this one night at midnight and watched the whole thing even though I had to be up at 5:00 am.

My ex made me leave roo right before The White Stripes played their set because he was tired and wanted to go home. We lived in Knoxville at the time, so the drive was not even that long. I have never forgiven him for that. I am definitely excited I finally get a chance to see Jack White.
