This is my first time doing voodoo. I always have fun in nola, usually just at the house of blues. Pretty excited for Rise Against an Manchester Orchestra. Been listening to griz never heard of him before but it sounds pretty cool. You all have talked me into catching some of big freedia. I listened to a little an didn't care for it, but I imagine a live show is pretty cool. I'd like to see skrillex again but if they oppose arctic monkeys I gotta miss it, I was mad at myself for not leaving my tent at roo.
You'll have to trust us on this. Bounce Rap is vulgar, crude, loud, brash and everything rock and roll is supposed to be. It is a super fun hyper-NOLA genre straight out of the projects, in the case of Freedia, means 3rd Ward Josephine Street. Sissy Bounce, her particular sub genre, did not initially enjoy a lot of respect among black guys for obvious reasons. But once they found out the audiences were 90+% female, they couldn't hate on it anymore. Eventually bounce crept into white culture and is widely accepted by teens and 20-somethings today where instead of just a sideshow, the shows are always packed.

In other news, since so many of us will be at this fest do we want to plan a little brunch get together at a local cafe one morning?
That was an old old place that went to **** then got resurrected 7-10 years ago and turned around completely. It's not say at a Mahoney's quality level, but they have pretty damn good shrimp poboys. One of my kids loves the surf and turf one. It's a cool place with a good neighborhood bar. I could be wrong but I think the original ones referenced in the link to their history had something to do with feeding striking workers (rail or dock???) on Decatur St. I think they were known as poor boys but most locals say po over poor. And I guess Parkway picked up on those sandwiches at a neighborhood retail level. For anyone who will be new to New Orleans and eat a po'boy, you ask for them dressed minus whatever you don't want. About 95% of the time, dressed will be lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise and often pickles. Anywhere will accommodate a dressed no mayo or dressed no tomatoes or add onions or gravy or hot mustard or whatever.
It's only a few blocks away from City Park//Voodoo so if y'all end up doing something early Friday or Saturday, put it out there. One caution about Parkway on a Friday, especially if the weather is good, the line gets very long by 12 , 1130 is generally not a problem.
Really want to go to this and was planning to. But the friends I was gonna go with bailed. Anyone wanna go in on a hotel for this with me?
I highly recommend this hostel, where I stayed last time I went to Voodoo. They also have private rooms if you want your own room. Cool people making breakfast and meals for cheap during the day, pool on site, and they even have a small stage where bands play....check it out
^Nobody knows. It's different every year. I think they put out a daily lineup in early September last year.
A couple of night shows were officially announced: 10/30: Moon Taxi - House of Blues (yes, we already knew about this one) 10/31: Quintron & Miss Pussycat + Ballzack + Manatees - One Eyed Jacks (yes, Quintron happens every year on halloween @ OEJ) 11/01: The Revivalists - Tipitina's
Provided it doesn't sell out before I get off my lazy *** in a couple of months to get Moon Taxi tickets, I'll be there. They are easily one of my favorite up and coming rock bands. I've only seen them 3 times, but I loved all three sets (Voodoo 2013, Hanguot 2014, Waka 2014).
ChavezNWO,
I'm not sure if everyone will agree with me, but i would bet (55/45) that Outkast would probably be on Friday with Foo Fighters on Saturday. It could be the other way, but I don't think either one of them plays on Sunday.

It would kind of be a missed opportunity if OutKast wasn't scheduled for Friday being that it's Halloween and we're obviously going to get weird with Andre3k and Big Boi!

Agreed, Sunday is typically reserved for the smaller headliner. Last year was an exception, because none of the headliners were small.
Year before that Jack White was Sunday, who we don't really think of as "smaller" lately, but relative to NY&CH and Metallica he was definitely the smallest.
Outkast on Halloween would be the best scheduling, IMO.
Well, I'm officially not going. There is NO way I can afford this now. And I've used most of my leave at work for an upcoming trip up north next month. I'm sad. I really wanted to see the foo fighters (and pretty lights for the 2nd time!) especially for my bday. UGH!
The Republic will almost certainly have untz shows the following 2-3 nights after the fest as well.
How's that venue as a whole?
It's alright, I guess. 1000 capacity I think. There's a balcony, but you really can't see the stage that well unless you are on the railing up there. I don't hate it as much as I hate Tipitina's. haha
The best nola venues are Saenger Theater, Civic Theater, One Eyed Jacks, Howlin' Wolf, and Joy Theater IMO.
haha. I don't remember that. lollin' ovah here I've only been to a couple hetti jazzfest after shows there though. Maybe they didn't bother breaking that shit out for those. Pretty sure I was drinking beers though and didn't request a water.

Hahaha, yeah it was at the Meter Men show last year. I had to refuse the offer and insist on being served tap water. I didn't notice it this year, but I always crack up remembering that when people talk about Republic.
Big Freedia is playing on Halloween, which is of course appropriate. It's the closing night of a 20 city North American tour. the more I look at this lineup, the more likely there will be conflicts galore. Like everybody else, I hate me some conflicts. But on the other hand, it's kind of like an nfl team that has too many quality WRs (a good problem to have)

But not for sure if inside New Orleans dot com (Cox Cable I think) has the story correct, but they reference 6 stages (performance areas) for upcoming Voodoo. I think they had 6 in 2012, but they only had 4 last year. So if this is true, maybe they will set up a mobile dj station and another stage if not 2 addl stages.
