Lmao. Speaking of festival snobs, the local paper had a link referencing the potential coming bubble. We have about 7 festivals in the area, but most only cross on the edges. Jazzfest is local and national centered less (overall, not headliners per se) on rock. Voodoo is more rock, alternative, hip hop and edm. Buku is edm, hip hop and modern progressive. French Quarter Fest is mostly local with some international Bands. Bayou Country is that. T Bois is blues as sort of is hogs for the cause. And then Satchmo Summerfest tips its hat to trumpet playing (not exclusive). So if there are 867 US Fests, they don't all necessarily overlap with the listening public. I think I understand the point of the "generic" mega fests reaching a demand side saturation or a point where they are unaffordable for their intended audience. It's pretty long, but there is some quality insight.
So my theory of Skrillex v Arctic Monkeys Sunday is blown out the water since Skrillex is playing Saturday 11/01. That still leaves the potential for Pretty Lights or Zedd v AM on Sunday of course.
Edit- won't be pretty lights as song kick has him for 10/31 Friday. All their other majors show 10/31-11/"02. Rise Against will be in the UK on 11-3 so you figure they would play Friday or Saturday most likely.
So here is a live clip of Benjamin Booker on Conan. He is from here, but I never heard of him until the lineup came out. Sounds a little NOLA, a little Delta and a lot of garage. My favorite part of this is about 90 seconds left in the video. consequenceofsound.net/2014/08/watch-benjamin-booker-rocks-the-shit-out-of-conan/
Edit - actually 2 clips. If you aren't on mobile, link is rocks-the-expletive beginning with S in the link
Lauryn Hill is a solid add. I'll make sure to check her out. Gonna definitely scope out her standard setlist and approximate what time I should make it over, then add about 40 minutes to that time since she will surely be extremely late.
Quintron & Miss Pussycat should headline the whole fuckin' thing.
Don't go crazy there mang.
I'm still holding out hope for Judas Priest being added. They're playing ATL area Tues Oct 28th, then Weds Oct 29th in Orlando, then the 30th in Hollywood, FL.
11hr drive from Hollywood, FL to NOLA. They take Halloween off and hang out in NOLA (seems like something the band and their crew would enjoy doing) and then play Voodoo on Saturday 11/1. 8hr drive to Corpus Christi Texas the next day, then another day off after that.
They aren't really taking any two day breaks between shows so this seems pretty logical. I say that, but Voodoo consistently blows it on booking awesome bands that are travelling in the area.
Keepin' hope alive though.

Got my fingers crossed too man. Priest would be a super badass add (and I also want Suicidal [ST! ST!]). Still loving on a lot of rock that week though. Announced today was Amon Amarth on Monday the 27th at the Civic, and I haven't seen them yet. So the eardrums are going to get some practice between them and Moon Taxi leading into Voodoo. Damn. It's going to be a loud ass week.
Yea I think Longinus and I are going to hit up Moon Taxi. Will def be waiting closer to Voodoo before buying tix. Would rather hit up a Frenchmen show or some cool Devil's Night show at OEJ.
Might hit up the Trio at the Maple Leaf, I've never gotten to see Johnny V. in his natural habitat before. If George is on bass then I'll have to do it. Nothin' like gettin' funked up the night before a fest.
A year or two ago we had the Pimps of Joytime play Mobile the night Voodoo and like 12 people showed up, that was a great start to the festival. They played a really long time even with only a handful of people there.

Timberlake show was fun. I've never been to a show where it was like 9 to 1 female to male ratio. We had lots of people watching lulz. And JT's production was absolutely incredible. He had like a front platform stage that moved over the crowd on the floor and gave him access to woo ladies seated on the sides of the arena. It moved all the way to the back of the floor where the VIP area was and another small stage for him to perform. It was funny to see the crowd on the floor all standing up looking at him while his band was on the main stage going to town. So really, our seats at the back top of the area were great because we could see everything going on the whole time. The highlight of the show for me was when he covered MJ's Human Nature.
I'm hoping Friday is PL and FF, Saturday is Outkast and Skrillsux, and Sunday is AM
p.s. who would've thought a non-bonnaroo thread would be my reason to return to inforoo?
Why did you leave?
just didn't really care for the way my bonnaroo experience was being strongly influenced by inforoo (my own fault). felt the need to disconnect from it all

Well welcome back. Are you living in new orleans now?

Here is another piece on Benjamin Booker. Apparently he's blowing up. Like I said when I ran across the last piece of news, I never even heard of him before the lineup announcement. Apparently he's playing FYF, going on tour and then finishing up November 1st at Voodoo (which would be Saturday for anyone else keeping score). This is an interview by Gambit Magazine and is insightful into his early life and career. Again, I've not seen him live, and I'm not trying to promote him or say that his shows are great or anything as I have no idea. But it's Voodoo news, so...
Voodoo schedule is out next week along with single day tickets and a price increase for weekend to 175. I don't necessarily agree with Keith Speara who thinks Skrillex could headline Sunday. 1) he appears on Hard's website who is sponsoring the EDM stage and 2) everything I can find around the web shows him playing Saturday. www.nola.com/voodoofest/index.ssf/2014/08/2014_voodoo_fest_to_reveal_sch.html
Can't wait to hopefully get some adds this week. Here's some possibilities:
Shpongle (Hulaween on 10/31, Ft. Lauderdale on 11/1...could possibly play Voodoo on Sunday. Show in Utah on like the 5th of November)
TV On the Radio: New album coming out in November. Playing that Life is Beautiful Fest in Vegas on Oct 25th, no other shows until Nov 12th in Canada.
Massive Attack: Playin some shows West coast in late October. Voodoo always blows it on stuff like this so I'm not counting on it but it' still a possibility.
Thievery Corporation: Played Voodoo 2008, haven't been back since. They're playing Hulaween on 10/31 and no dates scheduled after that. This would be an excellent addition.
Why wouldn't you count on any adds? There have been adds the past 8 years of the festival at least, I can't remember any further back.
They are releasing the daily schedule this week not the full schedule.
Of course they are going to add acts, they need to sell more tickets once the price goes up. Common sense'd.
Isn't this the first year it's being run my LiveNation? I would never count on them to do anything good. Especially if it's common sense
Also, I live in the city. Is it worth paying $50 for the 3 day parking pass or just find a spot on esplanade? I work at Morris Jeff so I could park at work and walk to the museum entrance...
