Also, I wish there was anything else I wanted to see Saturday for Bayfest to make the drive and expense to see Janes worth it. I would have totally gone had they been Friday or Sunday. We have Gretna Fest that weekend which is sub-Derp if you can believe that. There are some good and okay stuff (Funky Meters, Robert Randolph and Wick-it), but Saturday actually ends with Big Smo and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Maybe if it was eArly 70s I'd see Skynyrd, but not 20teens and not at a fest on the West Bank. So Jabco told me to check Big Smo out for disbelief factor. I went to YouTube and Kick Mud came up. I made it through about 40 seconds until the Chevy Truck/ford tough double truck reference and had to shut that fucker off. Damn. It's like even worse than what I could have imagined. So imagine a white trash spectacular with those two closing out the day. Yeeeeee MFN haw.
Doesn't that Big Smo guy have a TV show kinda like Duck Dynasty meets Honey Boo Boo?
Apparently so as I just looked it up on wiki. I think they said it was on A&E. Speaking of A&E, I don't believe that station is about either anymore. I understand we live in what has become a simple country, but damn it if any of the old school regular cable entertainment channels (VH1, Bravo. discovery, learning channel, etc) are worth any ****s whatsoever anymore. Haha, I don't mean to come off as a complete hater, but damn. Even the otherwise formerly reputable channels like discovery and animal planet now make fake documentaries (Submarine, the elusive 35+ foot great white or those dumb-ass phony mermaid specials). In any event, I don't plan on watching it.
I went to the last Alex Grey party at the House of Rules a couple of years ago and it was amazing. Got to meet him and everything, it was life changing. Music was better last time (Tipper and Nadis Warriors) but on Halloween weekend it's not gonna matter. Doesn't start til Voodoo is over really either.
ESTEBAN- As for other shows in NOLA, I'm hitting up: Tim & Eric w/ Dr. Steve Brule next Friday at the Civic, Macca on 10/11 and def of Montreal at the Howlin' Wolf on 10/24. This'll be my like, 17th OM show, they are always f'n awesome live. If you've never seen them before they are worth checking out.
Will prob hit up the Gleason Gras thing at Champions Square that same day to pre-game and see a free Anders Osborne show.

Sounds really cool, I've always wanted to check out a live Alex Grey event. I was out of town the last time he did an event in Austin.
I'm doing Beck and of Montreal shows. Seeing St. Vincent p'cola instead b/c an hour closer to me Sold my ticket for Paul McCartney to see King Diamond in ATL instead (priorities) I really want to do Amon Amarth, but work might fuck me over.
Who the hell is booking for Republic now? Booked like 4 shows I'd go to next month if I lived in nola: Bonobo, SBTRKT, Chromeo, and Warpaint.
I don't know. My kids all hit up electronica there, usually Thursdays, and many of those shows are sellouts recently. I can't understand why they wouldn't book somewhere larger since they are drawing higher end dj's. I think I heard Break Science was coming there soon. I saw part of Of Montreal at Howlin Wolf last winter. I was just passing by and caught 3 songs from outside. They sounded pretty good.

Yea, that's the good thing about Howlin' Wolf, you can at least hear the band outside. Longinus and I listened to Lettuce for a while out there after Down On The Bayou IV in 2013 during Jazzfest until our friend got the door guy to let us in free.
You should come to see of Montreal, they are a top tier live band imho. They have cutting edge psychedelic visuals done by the little brother of the front man, Kevin Barnes.
Every time I leave one of their shows my face is scrambled pretty bad.
I'm exactly the other way on that Eagle. I think boys noize is pretty mundane.
Kev,
Who else you got in October? I know about some of the Halloween shows, Amon Amarth and Macy Gray, and the Moon Taxi show. Who else is coming?
Lee Fields, The Head and The Heart, Jimmy Cliff, Jenny Lewis, St. Vincent w/ Matthew E. White, Macca, Fitz & The Tantrums, Ziggy Marley, Bassnectar (Baton Rouge), Gwar, Of Montreal, and Ray Lamontagne
I'll try to get to a couple of those shows. I really, really wanted to go see Moon Taxi. I might just go early and go to the Irish bar next door to watch the Saints game. I'll try to get to Of Montreal and that's dependent on whether or not I end up going see Macy Gray. I'm not big on R&B (outside of old Motown or Stax), but she's a little different, and it might be a good show. A couple of buddies want to go see St. Vincent, so that's a maybe. I'd also love to see Jimmy Cliff, but I'll have to see how that works out. As for Bass Drum of Death last night, it was pretty good. They were a little pop for my tastes, but it was still a pretty fun show. Kind of a random "clean" punk crowd if that makes sense. It was nothing great, but it was worth catching for $8.00.
I would neither recommend it nor try to talk you out of it either way. It was fun enough for what it was. It's 2 guitarists and a drummer who are all fairly talented. But it's not violent or hardcore or anything. There is enough out there on YouTube to make a decision. I had fun, but it wasn't the typical spikey, dyed and dirty [tm Meatmen] punk and hardcore crowd. But their fans knew a lot of the stuff, so clearly they have a following. I don't know if it's people that knew them from Jackson/Oxford and moved down here or if they are just known in the pop-punk world. Someone opened up before I got there, and then the Bottom Feeders played. They were also fairly entertaining, but I thought the drummer was weak for what they played.

They do have a following, they got played a lot on XMU the past few years.
Free concert? Hellz yes! Are we all going to this?
I just RSVP'd a lil while ago. RSVP@Pitchfork.com
Longinus convinced me that the Alex Grey party is too much $$$ and not as hetti as a rock n roll afterparty.
Plus it's at f'n One Eyed Jacks, the best club venue in NOLA.
They always have a cool Voodoo aftershow for free. Saw the Butthole Surfers for free there in 2008.......that one scarred me for life, in the good way.
