So are we thinking OutKast Friday, Foo Fighters Saturday, Arctic Monkeys Sunday?
Probably so. I would think Slayer would play on Halloween night as well probably at subheadliner spot. Last year Voodoo didn't really oppose Friday. Pearl jam was mostly unopposed except for Glen David Andrews, and then Saturday initially had Afrojack at 845 and NiN at 945 until How to Destroy Angels dropped out, and we got a 2 hour set with Nine Inch Nails. I don't know what their format will be this year for evening shows. You figure Sunday will have competing acts if they do that like last year which would put Skrillex maybe as competing EDM with Arctic Monkeys. So subheadliner EDM spots (big g and calvin Harris 2013) would probably go to Zedd and Pretty Lights. That actually leaves some pretty good rock (Melvins, Rise Against DFA) and good edm (griz, le grande) for the mid afternoon. And that doesn't even factor in some of the bigger acts like AWOL Nation and Flux. I'm likely to be wandering from stage to stage a lot this year.
How late does this festival play?? Just curious. I know my local festival and like Beale street have a city ordinance they have to shut down by a certain time. Is this one the same?? Trying to get an idea.
The headliners are from roughly 9pm - 11pm. I think it may end a earlier on Sunday, but I can't remember. And if you're needing stuff to do late night, most venues around town will have stuff going on.
Agreed. And then Halloween has gotten as big as if not bigger than Mardi Gras down in the Marigny/Frenchmen area. It's insane, and whenever Halloween is on a Friday or Saturday, forget about it. There will be tens of thousands of people partying in the streets on that side of town. Gravity A, our local funktronica band, always puts on a great Halloween show at Blue Nile that runs until the morning. I've gone the last few years until last year when you couldn't even get near the entrance. It was that packed. But it's as fun of a party night in the city that you'll ever see. A lot of people take their costumes seriously. And since this year's Halloween is Friday, I'd expect about 15% of Voodoo participants to be in costume. Also, with all the big electronica acts, no doubt Sugar Mill/Republic/Mardi Gras World and the usual venues will probably have some big time late night stuff if that's your thing. If not, everywhere else will be open and partying until the wee hours anyway.

I had a lot of fun last year. Mostly went to voodoo fest for the headliners and food, then just chilled in New Orleans to drink and eat food. Halloween gets pretty packed and there are lots of good costumes going around. I need to see if I can post my photos soon, I have been lazy and they just sit on my computer.
Late shows will be happening at venues all over town afterwards.
Late shows at the Howlin' Wolf are THE BEST. So much fun.
Yes! Aftershows were great.
Caught the Revivalists at Howlin Wolf, Funk Superjam at Howlin Wolf and Reignwolf with like 50 people at House of Blues.
Also, my wife and I aren't really costume people and I am pretty sure we were the ONLY people not dressed up on Halloween at the fest last year. Just FYI.
So this is looking like it will be my fall-festival fix for next year so I was hoping to get some info from those who have attended Voodoo regularly. It seems like most on here have early bird tickets, when do those go on sale typically? Given how cheap it is, I might debate doing VIP as well. Also, is it easy to get hotels in NOLA close to the fest? How early should I book? Any help would be awesome.

-Early bird tickets go on sale in the weeks following the fest, like Nov-Dec.
-VIP is inexpensive and great if you want to get close for headliners, and its also great because the VIP lounge gives you a nice place to chill (chairs tables etc) between sets. The parking is also great if you drive, but you have to pay a little extra for it. Having said that, VIP is not necessary to have a good time at voodoo. The main stage isn't nearly as crowded as say the What Field, so you can pretty much always get a good spot soundwise (having said that I've gone VIP the past two years so my memory might be fading as to headliner shows on the main stage).
-It is NOT easy to get hotels close to the fest. If you are even thinking about it book a refundable hotel room ASAP. There is always something going on in new orleans. I just checked and it looks like the Saints will NOT have a home game that weekend, so that is a huge help, but its still halloween in new orleans, plus it always seems like there is some convention gobbling up hotel rooms. Having said that, I have in prior years been able to book pretty sweet hotwire deals the week of the fest, then I just cancel my previously booked hotel. But for the past two years I haven't gotten a single hotwire deal during voodoo or jazzfest. I think tourism is really back in full swing, so the years of post-katrina hotel deals may be at an end.

The Funk Superjam was SO SO SO gooooddd! And I wish I would've gone to Reignwolf! That guy...unf.
I appreciate the input 3post1jack1, I'll probably look into hotels towards the end of the summer then. Thanks.
KD had mentioned in an earlier thread booking now through booking.com bc it's free and you can cancel at any time. I didn't see too many cheap hotels on there unless you want to be forever away. You might want to start looking soon. Just a thought
