I am totally overwhelmed by the Trucks Superjam. I had high hopes but this completely shatters any expectation I already had.
Trucks + Taj. wow. just wow.
I was never going to Kanye and Cube was definitely in the mix but now I'll be at That Tent by about 10 PM on Friday night.
Sweet merciful crap!!!!!
Taj Mahal and Derek Trucks were both involved in the "all my friends" Gregg Allman tribute back in January of this year, but except for one last encore ("All my Friends", appopriately - where just about EVERYBODY involved was on stage) they didn't perform together.
I was going to skip the Skrillex superjam too...but right now the 3 superjams are on the top of my must-see list, hands down.
and Chaka Khan....what the hell...there's a blast from the past!
Interesting lineup, I think it's a bit of a step backwards, but I think it will be a good show.
Probably more in the classic superjam vein of things and a little less fun than last years. I will probably be there though
I think you're right about it being similar to the classic superjams but I disagree that its a step backward. With Trucks, Tedeschi, Taj Mahal and members of Lettuce, this Superjam might be the best example of musicianship since the D'Angelo superjam and has the ability to match that performance.
It might not be the surreal, out of body experience that the Rock and Soul Dance Party was for so many, but I think that is more likely to be the Skrillex Superjam. Honestly, I think Bonnaroo did a pretty good job of balancing opposite ends of the spectrum. You can't look at both of those Superjams and not find someone to like.

Let's talk on June 14th at about 3:30 AM and see what you think then ; )
Indeed, I hope I am wrong. But this superjam has a lot to live up to if it wants to pass last years. Last years show is probably a top 3-4 all time concert for me.

I feel you and am completely on board with last year being one of the best shows I've ever seen.
However, there was no guitar player on stage last year that is even in the same category as Derek.
Everyone's 'better' is different for sure, but I don't think I'm looking for better. I'm just looking for a bunch of talented musicians that I like to go on stage and absolutely kill it. If that happens, and it certainly looks likely, I'll be a happy man.
I just hope there's horns. There has to be horns right?

I agree that there are a ton of very talented musicians, but I think there will be a tendency for it to be a little on the guitar wankery side of things. It comes down to musical preference, but if I had the choice to listen to Eric Clapton or Neil Young play guitar I would pick Neil all day and night even if Clapton is technically the better player.

I'm a huge EC fan but an even bigger NY fan so I'm with you on that. Let's hang our hat on that ; )
The ? Superjam just went down a couple notches - maybe it's just because I don't know the musicians, but nothing about that really excites me. I hope they say what type of feel the SJ is gonna be - I'm expecting jammy/bluesy stuff, but I remember last year there was an article where John Oates talked about them going for a motowny feel and leaked a bit of the set list. That'd be nice. I was mainly going to the ? SJ to get a good spot for Chance, so I hope these guys put on a great performance. Hopefully any unannounced special guests are big names (like R. Kelly and Brittany Howard last year).
And I kinda wish they didn't announce Skrillex's friends, because now that set is going to be even more packed. I'm really really looking forward to that now.l
Dierks Bentley in the bluegrass super jam? That's weird.
I thought so too but apparently he played Roo in 2007 and played with Sam Bush. Not sure who came out for who's set but I was surprised to learn that.
I'm pretty sure Sam Bush came out for Dierks Bentley's set. I was at The Roots, but a friend of mine went as a country music fan and came back in awe of "some Sam Bush guy."

Excuse me for saying so but just being at this set to get a good spot for Chance the rapper is a terrible waste of space and time. I'm hoping that any who are there for that reason are not in front of me

Never underestimate the power of the next act. I listened to the Decemberists for the first time by waiting for the White Stripes in 07 and ended up really enjoying their set. Same with Bassnectar while waiting for LCD Soundsystem. Maybe people who previously didn't realize how badass Derek Trucks is will get an eye opening experience.

They also may not be able to see Chance the Rapper, because Derek Trucks melted their face via slide guitar. Choose wisely.

I don't think so. I have zero interest in the metal tent and Ice Cube, and Chance is a top-5 act for me. I'm not that familiar with Disclosure, though I have liked what I've heard. And as tyler said, this SJ might be awesome and eye-opening for me. So best-case scenario, I see an awesome SJ and get a good spot for Chance; worst-case scenario, the SJ is "meh" and I only miss an act I'm "meh" about (Disclosure), and still get a good spot for Chance.

You'll like the SJ, don't worry. I don't think it's a waste of space to check out new music while waiting for a favorite

I guess I didn't word that very well. If someone is at a set primarily to get a good spot for another set, but is open to enjoying and possibly being transformed by the set, then it's a win-win for all. And there's a very good chance of those happening.
I guess I sounded like a snob and didn't mean to. My eyes and ears have certainly been opened to a lot in the past few years.

You make a legit point though. I was surrounded by people yapping during Wilco's set as they waited for McCartney last year. That mixed with the sound being way too low made for an annoying experience. Get your spot, sure, but stay engaged with the music in front of you as well.

If one of the people was saying "wow, Wilco sucks." Then it may have been me.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

Yea @zenfnp, don't be so hard on yourself. I understood what you were saying and can agree with your feelings. It could be a bummer to have that person talking or playing on their phone while you are trying to enjoy the set to the fullest. Especially when the back to back shows are completely different, it's not that far fetched to think someone waiting around for Chance might not get into a blues set with Derek Trucks and co.

Idk, Mr Broemel might have something to say about that.
