You all do know that while Eric Krasno is a great guitarist and is so with Lettuce and Soulive and several other bands, as recent as last summer he was playing bass in either Tedeschi/Trucks or Pretty Lights. I am having a brain fart but he is an established bass player as well.

But in the essence of the superjam and your chance to pick top musicians, wouldn't you have someone play their primary instrument in that situation?...and the fact that Paul didn't say "Oh, Eric's playing bass."

Maybe he doesn't necessarily know full instrumentation. I am not saying JPJ won't be there but if Trucks and Krasno already have a dynamic together as they have played many shows together with Krasno on bass, and Trucks is leading the jam..... I also don't think it's fair to imply Krasno isn't a fantastic bass player. I haven't watched him play bass ever but being as Derek Trucks is pretty famous and has Allman Brothers credentials, I am pretty sure he has no problems having the bassist of his choice. It's not like he sat there and said "Well nobody else wants to play bass in Susan and I's band... Let's find a guitarist that can sort of fumble his way through our songs on bass."
Does anybody have any recommended listening that would relate to this superjam? I would like to add some tunes to my spotify playlist.
So broad, pretty much the whole history of blues inspired rock and roll.
Are you down with the Allmans? Live at the Fillmore East if you aren't. One of the greatest albums of all time.
EDIT: On another forum years ago in a "what are you listening to right now" type of thread I posted Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore East - Disc 1, with the question "does music get any better than this?" I got a response from someone else saying "yes, disc 2". I wholeheartedly agree.

I am very much down with the Allmans. That album is great. Thanks for reminding me about that.
It would be sick if they could get murph formally from sts9 to slap deh bass
I was thinking that as well back before the official announcement, when we were all speculating that Umph may be involved with this Superjam. Don't know if he fits as well with the current lineup, but I'd be for it, (if we don't get JPJ). He is gonna be on the farm right? Doesn't he play with Cherub?
not sure if serious...... but no he doesn't he's been in sts9 for whoever knows how longggggg. but they parted ways just after the new year.
I'm thinking JPJ has to be part of the ? SJ. I remember when he was there in '07, he played with damn near everybody. He was popping up all over the place like a bad case of herpes. I would be shocked if he wasn't part of it.

I'm serious. He isn't in Cherub I just looked it up, but I knew I heard something about his association with the band. There were rumors.

Searched but didn't see this mentioned. Ben has a show with the Houston Symphony at 7:30, but i imagine that can be done by 9. Planes, and probably won't need his own instruments i suppose
Bonnaroo just posted this on Reddit about the Derek Trucks superjam:
"Got some solid updates to the Derek Trucks SuperJam to let y'all know about... Karl Denson on sax - Willie Weeks on bass - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Weeks Nigel Hall - you know him and love him. if you don't then watch this video of him jamming with Eric Krasno Ryan Zoidis on sax and Eric Bloom on trumpet from The Shady Horns who play with Lettuce and Soulive. Shaping up amazingly. Can't wait to see it all come to life!"

This Superjam I feel is very underrated there's a lot of room to pull out a bunch of guests for this one. It's basically a Trucks backed by Lettuce feat. Andrew Bird and Ben Folds plus special guests doing 70's Rock and Soul with even more guests.

I don't think Tweedy shows up for this. Doesn't seem like a great fit but I'd be happy if it happened.
This superjam felt a bit like a letdown for me but I know it's going to be awesome. I think I was just spoiled with the past two years announcements making me beyond excited. Trucks + Lettuce + guests will be an amazing set of tunes.

This is my most anticipated set of the festival. Also pretty happy Trucks is involved bc now I can see Cake and not worry about missing his show at What Stage.
The only guy on the lineup I'd like to see added is Jake Cinninger from Umphrey's. Why the fuck isn't he there? But I love Trucks/Lettuce/Bird/Folds. The jam band crowd will love this one.

I am bummed I'll miss their What Stage show just because of Cake but like I said, this will be great. I just think Bonnaroo's late nights this year are absolutely stacked (like it should be) so it's going un noticed a little bit. Imagine if this was during 2011 LN's or 2010's? It would probably be just as underrated.

I've gotten into Disclosure, so I was a bit bummed about missing that - it'll be a dance party for sure. But this will never happen again and should be awesome. I'll actually be missing the end of Kanye to get a good spot for this one. Not the biggest Kanye fan.
I will be arriving late to bonnaroo...right around the start of Kanye's set. Depending on traffic to get in, I'm hoping not to miss this show. I'm not going to bother with setting up camp until the morning

I see that Tedeschi Trucks are doing 3 shows in Las Vegas later this week with special guests Soulive. Maybe a little preview of what they have in mind for the SuperJam? Someone head over there and report back.

When you put it like this, I'm a lot more excited for this. TBCH I didn't recognize that the dudes from lettuce were involved.
