"Hopscotch Music Festival, recently called "America's (Secretly) Best Festival" and "the premiere experimental and underground festival in America," is celebrating its 5th Anniversary this September, 4-6. Featuring more than 160 bands over 3 days in downtown Raleigh, Hopscotch is increasingly recognized for adventurous lineups, incredible performances, and a fan-friendly atmosphere. From a large outdoor main stage in Raleigh City Plaza to intimate club shows, the festival offers music in almost every genre imaginable—rock, hip-hop, metal, folk, drone, electronic, etc.—and its schedule highlights this diversity each year.
Hotel booked. This is going down.

Presale: A limited number of VIP and 3-Day wristbands will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 27. These wristbands are the same price as regularly priced wristbands in 2013—VIP is $180 and 3-Day is $125. We’ll send a code to all email newsletter recipients on Thursday morning; the code can be used to buy these wristbands (limit 4 per purchase) until they’re gone. NOTE: We’ve set aside the same amount of wristbands for the 2014 pre-sale as we did in the 2013—25% of the total wristbands are available in the pre-sale.
March 1st @ 10am: Regularly priced VIP ($205) and 3-Day ($150) wristbands are on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
Per Facebook comments: "we’re announcing the first band (1 of 170) tomorrow morning. We’ll continue to make a few more band announcements prior to the April lineup launch."

On twitter, they said that it would be a metal band to keep with tradition. Now, I have to go listen to Obliterations again.

Was thinking about going to this, I have a few questions. Trying to save money, is the super 8 a bad place to stay or what is the best cheap place would you recommend? Also, is VIP worth getting?

I've only been the past 2 years and done GA both times. VIP feels a bit more worth it, to me, due to them being down a venue.
I've only stayed in the Days Inn in downtown Raleigh. Its like a 10/15 minute walk to the venues and I really only saw it for a few hours each morning.
Hopefully that helped a little. I can't stress how much I love this festival. The music. The day parties. The food. The people. Raleigh does it right. You'll get every cent back you put into going.
What are the odds Slint is on this lineup? Bought my VIP pass the other day. I'm a Hopscotch virgin but really think this festival is perfect for me.
I don't know. They are playing Primavera this year as well, but Forecastle is the only US date announced so far which is surprisingly but not surprising since they are from Louisville. I will say that Hopscotch would be pretty high up (if not the top) of my list of US festivals that would go after them.

That is my thought process as well. Gonna be some gems on this lineup nonetheless.

The blessing and the curse of the schedule I learned last year was that they structure it to where bands don't go for long but they play at a ton of venues. Even with them ditching the big venue for this year, there will be numerous acts going at the same time, so you will be into at least one act that is playing at any given time. The downside is that you will probably be into multiple bands that are playing at any given time.

I've been in love with this festival for a few years now. The scheduling conflicts will definitely be a problem but I usually am into at least 80% of the bands they book so it won't be a problem to be in bliss.
