I refuse to even start Lost because of how much I've heard the ending sucks.
Sometimes people still try to convince me it's worth watching despite the ending. Misery loves company, I guess?
It is worth watching, despite the ending.
To me that would almost make it worse. I'd hate so much to love the storyline/characters and see it go off the rails, or to leave it open ended and not finish it. There are so many good shows out now that I can't see myself making room for more than 100 hours of a show that shit the bed in the home stretch.

At what point did it go downhill?
The halfway point. First three seasons were good, then season 4 came around and unleashed the awful.

Eh, the show just totally meanders. A lot of the most engaging plot elements are unwound far before the end of the series. The ending sucked, but it didn't really matter.

Somewhere in there the writer's strike happens and it all kinda fizzles out.

Well, what d'ya know....Writer's Strike was from '07-'08, and Season 3 ended in '07 with Season 4 picking up in '08.

Thanks, maybe I'll check out the first three seasons sometime. And probably wind up finishing it anyway. Sunk cost, etc...
True story, I sent Damon Lindelof a tweet saying "Holy shit, I almost forgot how much the ending to Lost sucked" and he tweeted me back with a sarcastic "Oh I must have forgot myself." But that wasn't the funny part. The funny part was when I got hateful tweets for two weeks straight from all the Losties. Two weeks straight. It was awesome.
I find it hilarious now that at one point we didn't get along. I've been carrying the "Lost fucking sucked" torch for years now.
Hahaha likewise. Lost was a joke. I enjoyed the first two seasons, particularly the second season because it had more sci-fi elements, but it became clear by season 3 they had no clue where to go. It was modern St. Elsewhere, just a dummy staring into a snow globe. Lindelof and Cuse should always be known as hacks, and JJ Abrams acting like he had nothing to do with the ending is a total cop out.
Anyway back to True Detective: Pizzolatto is putting on a screenwriting clinic, but there's also a lot to be said about Fukunaga directing every episode. The continuity between writer and director on this show is unparalleled, and it's paid off.

I loved reading that Pizzolatto already has three fleshed out main characters for season two that he's in love with and that he's not using a team. He's writing season two by himself as well. It will be a highly anticipated premiere next year.

Just watched it on HBO Go and I can confirm that screenshot is very real. Even better it's a long sidewinding shot, absolutely 100% done on purpose. Unbelievable.

The ending really isn't that bad.
Totally agree, I think I it works a lot better if you go back and rewatch the last season and understand what is going on. Being so confused as to what was actually going on in the last season and then being rushed into the finale made it hard to digest. I'm actually in the camp that likes the ending sans a few minute things, but then again I'm ok with the Seinfeld finale too.

So it doesn't bother you that the island moves and travels through time and is weirdly magnetic and that there are two ancient immortal spirits living on the island who don't age or really do anything except direct the meaningless plot of the show? Oh and by the way one of them is a smoke monster. He is a monster, made of smoke.

I was under the understanding it was science fiction all along, so no not really. The smoke monster was in season 1, did you ever really expect a reasonable answer for that? Obviously I think there are some things that seem like cheap answers and the writers strike definetely effected the end game.
If a TV show is like a sandwich, Seasons 1-3 laid out the bread, spread the mustard and chopped up some lettuce. Seasons 4-5 threw ham and turkey at the wall and Season 6 smeared shit on the bread.
No? If it was that obvious, we would've picked up on it. Part of the brilliance of this show is he planned for everyone to take their analysis to super deep levels that he just skimmed the surface and laughed while people came up with this really complex and nutso Breaking Bad-type theories.
The ear muffs and his face is quite similar to Tuttle's and the meth dealers. They all seemed to have a broad, square face with unique features. Rance dismissed me.
Interview from Buzzfeed today. One thing that stood out to me was his mention of a required amount of nudity on pay TV shows and how he would have rather done the show without it. Also, unfortunately, the one director for the entire season thing will probably not happen next year.

Ooooo, too good! This offers a tremendous amount of insight into the show. And, Pizzolatto is a genius. I haven't been reading much out there on the show or following along too much on what Pizzolatto has had to say, so way neat and new for me to hear.
