I knew that would happen sooner or later, but I thought Corgan would keep the library and the TNA name for a couple of years. I'm excited to see TNA stuff on the network, as I haven't been able to watch TNA for at least 2 years.
Network pissed me off something fierce last week. Logged in to use it for NXT last week, and there were errors telling me I wasn't a subscriber. Long story short, the WWE help rep I chatted with blamed it on my bank switching me over to the chip card at the beginning of August. Which doesn't quite sit right with me, because they had no issues charging me my monthly fee at the end of August.
Told me I had to go resubscribe anew, but a pair of weddings in September had my wallet limping to rent etc. anyway, so I said screw it. For now. But I'm sure I'll bite the bullet again eventually.
Anyway...
I've been putting what would've been NXT Wednesday to arguably better use on YouTube. Wednesday is now for classics on YouTube instead, at least for the time being.
I've shown the ten year old boy the occasional classic match in the past (starting with Mania VI's Hogan vs. Warrior main event) but we're slowly but surely venturing down that rabbit hole. Girlfriend's new job means it's Boys' Night In from Monday through Wednesday, so that's what we're doing when there's no current Raw or SmackDown to watch.
I don't know how a ten year old of today even knows about casket matches, but he somehow knew (not from me, even) that there was once one involving Kane vs. Taker, so I showed him one of those first. I think from a Rumble, where Kane & Paul Bearer locked Taker in the casket & set it on fire. A "Don't tell Mom!" match.
Obviously, a dude my age is using the Hulkster as a starting point... and the kid already knows him. Among the classics I've exposed him to recently without the Network: - Hulk vs. Andre @ Mania III: A bodyslam for the ages. Kid always seems to ask whether whatever big guy could beat up Big Show & I try not to laugh. - Taker vs. Mankind @ Hell In A Cell (98?): I made an effort to show the kid a Foley match, so he knew more about the guy he only knows as Raw GM. Sweet Jesus, that boy loved it. Might be his new favorite match? Another "Don't tell Mom!" match. - Survivor Series 90, final survivors match: Most recent selection. I picked this for similar reasons to an old Rumble - easy way to get acquainted with multiple players, without the confusion of thirty of them. Hogan/Warrior/Tito Santana vs. DiBiase/Martel/Power & Glory/Warlord. He was perplexed why Warrior was just pacing & mouth-breathing during the pre-match group interview with Mean Gene. Why does that guy have a squirt gun full of perfume? Why does that other guy even need to wrestle if he has so many dollars?
I've got some time to think it over, and I definitely have my own thoughts, but I'm curious so I'm asking for suggestions...
Where would you take it from here in this situation?
I'm leaning towards the Hart vs. Michaels Iron Man match myself, if I had to pick one. But (1) at 60 minutes, that'd probably be it for the night, and (2) ten year old attention span. But I think he could use a proper introduction to those two sooner rather than later.

Hogan vs Savage from Mania 5-The Mega Powers Explode
Thanks. I hate that I have to scale back on the later 90s "Don't tell Mom" stuff, but he's ten. There's time.
I had actually been thinking about the Michaels/Taker Mania bouts as an alternative to the Iron Man. And maybe Bulldog at the London SummerSlam on the Hart front.
Savage is definitely on my list, but I was worried about that Mania V match because if the kid sees him up against Hogan he's going to automatically hate him.
I might be favoring face vs. face matches, because he's ten and a sucker for their preferred story lines. Kid's favorite is Cena, and he's been eating up the spoonfed Reigns storyline. I think Cesaro & Ambrose (depending, for me) are the only ones we can agree on these days?
Christ, I took the kid to a SmackDown taping in March and of all the things at the merch booth... he opted for an Usos shirt. A fucking Usos shirt! I was wearing a glowing unicorn horn, yet still managed to feel shame there.
And, uh... maybe not Benoit for a ten year old just yet?
Little guy was down for watching more classics last night, with a caveat: only casket matches.
Related: We had a bit of a dispute over Yokozuna's gender.
Hahaha. Which ones did you watch (both Yokozuna ones?). I think my favorite one with Michaels at Rumble 98. Come to think of it, I don't like casket matches that much. Same with buried alive marches, and the bodybag matches he did earlier in his career.

I just typed in "casket match" and Taker vs. Yoko was high on the list. Survivor Series, not sure which year. Paul Bearer & Mr. Fuji at ringside, as to be expected, with Cornette as well.
Also: Chuck motherfucking Norris at ringside to ward off interference. And there was plenty. Michaels & HHH tried coming in from the crowd. Chuck held off King Kong Bundy and Bam Bam Bigelow, had to roundhouse kick JJ, and Irwin R. Schuster somehow got in the ring.
Just got back from the Smackdown and 205 Live taping here in Columbia. First half of the show scared me with very little in the way of wrestling matches. But between American Alpha vs. Orton & Bray and Kendrick vs. Swann I feel the wrestling fans were sent home happy. Not to mention a brief but exciting dark main even with AJ Styles & Miz vs. Amrbose & Ziggler, which was added to keep people from leaving before the 205 Live taping... too little too late, as a good 1/4 of the crowd had already left by the time they even announced the match. The Ambrose Asylum segment had everyone going crazy, especially for the Styles Clash off the steps to Ellsworth (which I got a mid air pic of). Only bad thing on the whole show was the Kane/Harper match, and that wasn't even completely awful. It's amazing how over Kane is and has always been with the live crowds. Even though I've been 2nd crow hard camera at this arena for a WWE show 10 years ago, these were the best seats I've ever had for a WWE show. A few drunk dumb fucks behind me almost spoiled the fun when a big guy a few seats to my right turned around and threatened to kick their asses if they didn't straighten up. 15 minutes after that, I went to the bathroom and the found the ringleader of said dumb fucks puking his guts out in the stall beside me ( he walked out with puke all over his Polo shirt). This was at about 9:30, and they weren't an issue after this. I can't say too much as I personally got a little drunk at the show and ended up being pretty vocal during 205 Live. An interesting note is that during the Smackdown main event tag match you could see Austin Aries find his seat near the commentary booth, which distracted almost my whole section with "AUSTIN ARIES" chants. A few minutes after he took his seat, you could even see an official giving him the format to look over for 205 Live.
One of the more fun shows I've seen here in Columbia, for sure (I believe I've been to 7 WWE shows here in town since I moved here in 2000). Biggest pops go to AJ Styles, Kane, and Randy Orton (two heels!), and biggest heat to Kendrick, Miz, and Ambrose (a face!). Interesting and fun show, and the first wrestling show I've attended since another Smackdown taping here in 2013 right before Daniel Bryan got the main event push at Summerslam of that year. Columbia crowds are always hot, and I wish WWE would give us some better cards to get behind once in a while.

I am going to ROH Final Battle tonight with some friends. I haven't been up on ROH in a long time. But it should be a good show. Jay Lethal vs Cody Rhodes, Briscoes vs Young Bucks.

Damn, yet another reason to live in NYC. Its at Hammerstein Ballroom right?
I have Rumble and Mania lined up already. We also have Takeover tickets for those weekends. First rumble - really living out a boyhood dream next year.
The ten year old got me an Iron Sheik action figure for Christmas.
The Sheik? That's the 40 year old in you.
Still 30-something... sadly? Growing up, Dad ran a pizza place next to the video store. They had a "food for movies" arrangement, so I essentially had unlimited rentals. All the rasslin' on VHS I could handle.

They have a good documentary on The Sheik on Netflix.
Seen it, seconded that it's good.
The boy and I have an unspoken arrangement. I buy him figures at the store from time to time, but he refuses to pick out the ones he hates. So I'm on my own if the collection grows to include one of his despised heels. He woke up one morning to find my newly purchased Seth Rollins hoisting the championship belt beside his bowl of breakfast cereal. Kid was mad at me for like two days after that.
In this context, it was a major concession in the holiday spirit for him to actually gift me a bad guy.
Curious to see how the Royal Rumble plays out. I wasn't paying attention during the original brand split... did those winners get the title shot for their respective brands? What if it's like Goldberg or a debuting Samoa Joe or some "free agent" that wins?

I wasn't watching then either, but to my understanding they choose the title. What I'm concerned with is the Raw storyline. It looks like Styles and Cena will work together at the next two PPV's, so does that mean Cena wins at the Rumble? They could easily insert Undertaker in the title hunt if that's really the direction they're headed for Mania. But if they allow someone like Strowman to win and take on Reigns at Mania...no words. I'm not even sold on the idea of someone like Zayne winning the Rumble (though I guess that would bring his rivalry with KO to the big stage). It just seems like Raw hasn't solidified their plans yet while Smackdown (who I've thought was the better show all year) just keeps on trucking.

Yeah it definitely seems like Cena/Taker is a lock for Mania. Man I hope that Strowman/Reigns thing turns out to just be a horrible rumor. Hoping Balor is back in time and they can just do him vs KO at Mania for the Raw side. Also really hoping they do that New Day vs The Club vs The Shield match they teased.. Although it does seem like Rollins/HHH is set in stone already.
