I don't get all the hate for Kanye while Jack White gets a free pass.. Jack threw a hissy fit a year ago in NYC and ended his show after only 45 min. In my opinion that's way worse than what Kanye did. Also when you look at their personal lives, Jack is way more batshit.
If Jack pulls a Kanye stunt or anything like that I would be pissed off at him too. The difference is I like Jack White and I would probably continue to enjoy his music. Would I want him to headline roo again? No.
Just to clarify I wasn't even there in 08. If I had been I wouldn't have been there waiting on Kanye. I still think what he did and even moreso his reaction to it was a dick move and it just adds to the reasons that I don't like him. It's not what caused me to hate him.
If it comes down to musical taste, I don't like Mumford, Jack Johnson, or Kings of Leon but you didn't see me flipping out and threatening to disrupt the show or a thread created specifically to bash them. If you don't like Kanye, go do something else. Last year I went back to my camp site and got drunk and then got a great spot for R Kelly during JJ.
...so then you missed what, 30 minutes of Phil Lesh? Then waited around for a while? That's the source of the anger you're holding on to six years later? Must be a nice life.

It's just amazing to me that people think it's ALL ON KANYE. Like, Roo had nothing to do with it despite Kanye being there for hours before they actually started his set, PJ playing late, etc.
It's very obvious that Roo had a part in this, as much as Kanye.

Trust me, I won't be wasting my time at his set. I skip one headliner every year, so that's what I would do. The thing is, it may cause me to not even go. Mainly because they got him instead of Outkast and I really want to see Outkast.
The most Ironic part of this whole thing... I've been listening to The College Dropout this whole time I've been posting on here this AM. Apparently you can't make Kanye jokes because people get ultra sensitive and like to cry about it.
I think that you and Alanis Morissette adhere to the same definition of irony, in that you have no idea what it actually is.
I'm sorry about the use of mentally challenged comment as I said before it came out wrong, I'm far from homophobic and never said being a Gay Phish was a bag thing, if fact I said the opposite about how that would be his best quality. And for anyone who thinks I'm was being serious about 200 gay fish balloons then you got the issues not me.
Some would say the guy who trolls a message board like that has the issues, but hey....thanks for flipping that script and telling all of us we're the ones who messed up.
Holy shit I just realized you have almost nine thousand posts on here in less than 2 years
If Jack White did it to Bonnaroo fans at Bonnaroo I'm sure people on here would hold more of a grudge. Also, while Jack White is a weirdo and definitely has had some negative press he's nowhere near as divisive as Kanye is. Some people dislike Kanye because of all the things he says and does in interviews and shows and other things. Jack White isn't in the public eye or gossip entertainments shows nearly as much.
That's the media's fault then. If you compare the two incidents, Kanye showed up late to the festival (still performed!) and it's not like a vast majority of people came just to see him; their were plenty of other acts... Jack in NYC last year was at a show where tickets were going for $80 face value and skyrocketed to well over $100 in the secondary market, and people came just to see him and only him perform.. And he did 45 min, cursed off the crowd and promoters, then took off.. That's way worse in my opinion.
It's the media's fault that Kanye says and does a bunch of things that annoy people? I understand that they tend to promote it/sensationalize it more but it's not like Jack White is saying and doing a bunch of outrageous things and the media just ignores it. They report on Kanye because he's a very public person and persona. He says and does things that upset or annoy people. Blaming the media for Kanye being disliked more than Jack White is silly IMO. I love both acts and think both can be crazy but I feel like Jack White is less divisive because of his actions/comments.
Everyone has "off shows" or shows that have some kind of problems/cancellations. That's the main defense of the Kanye incident. Jack White had one at NYC. Van Morrison has off nights. The Grateful Dead have off nights. Lady Gaga has off nights. Jay-Z has off nights.
It just so happens that Kanye's off night was at a huge music festival where fans that post here were screwed over. If a lot of people on this board were at the NYC show you'd see a bit more hate going Jack's way IMO.

True, people are sensitive about Kanye. I do not enjoy the mans music. I was not crossing my fingers he would be on the lineup. But, it looks like he is. A lot of people are really looking forward to it, and that is AWESOME.
I did not immediately sign on to a message board and:
1. Use insults regarding mentally challenged people 2. Use insults and examples of what I was going to do at the show using homophobic aquatic imagery 3. Give a "heads up" I was going to be disruptive at a show a lot of people on this board are extremely excited to see
So you see it is not your opinion that is the problem. It is the way you worded/presented/threatened to express it.
Stop it.

I think we are fine here. Even if the 200 balloons was far fetched you went on to describe what you were going to put in their mouths. Even if far fetched, it had no purpose besides to elicit a response and continue the argument.

Someone that was actually there correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his stuff set up for a while before he actually came out? I remember rumors that he was in Atl(there were pics of him there I believe) and that he wasn't even on the farm till late. If these things are true, he was just straight up lying in that post he made. He wasn't back there waiting. But I guess none of us really know this.

Yea....that's one of the main points people forget. Both sides had some issues. Roo publically commented that it was their fault with the Pearl Jam stage in some interview but I personally believe they were trying to take ALL of the blame to keep Kanye happy for possibly future business. I do believe it was a combination of things.
...so then you missed what, 30 minutes of Phil Lesh? Then waited around for a while? That's the source of the anger you're holding on to six years later? Must be a nice life.
is this post directed at me? I don't even care about missing Phil's set, nor am I angry. I simply posted the events that transpired 6 years ago. Maybe stop reading into things?

There was proof that he was in ATL earlier that night. There's no real proof of when he arrived at Bonnaroo so he could have been there at 11 p.m. or he could have gotten there minutes before he was supposed to be on. We don't know. I was there and I definitely felt like they were done setting up/testing the set up for a little while before he actually came out. Not sure if there was some stuff going on behind the scenes but there was definitely a time where we felt "Okay, the testing is done...where is he". There could have been non-visual testing/components being worked on though.

The sound was the issue, not his setup. This is helping the "it was Roo's fault" argument.
Problems I have with this anti-kanye thread is that the thread title is demeaning, it implies that the people who don't want to see kanye are crying babies. itrainmonkeys can you change the thread titles to something that isn't demeaning to people who don't like kanye and want to be rational about it? Thanks

From what i recall the stage was mostly set up with some minor adjustments during the wait

That was intentional.
See, this is my point, thread title needs to be changed.

If you haven't realized by reading this thread, a lot of people are misdirecting their rage, which means it's a unfounded complaint (not entirely, relax, I know Kanye showed up late), or, in dumb-dumb talk, it's a bunch of "wah wahs."

So you are saying that people who are anti-knaye have to be irrational? Legitimate civilized discussion can take place. sang_xcx is being pretty level-headed. I haven't commented yet but I'm not going to be throwing a fit online. Unless we can have an irrational and rational anti-kanye thread, the title needs to be changed. I stand by my original statement. The thread titles is demeaning to people with a certain point of view.
