FX is doing a limited series version of Fargo. Think of it as being part of the same universe as the movie, but different characters and a different story. Joel and Ethan Coen are executive producers.
Fargo is my favorite Coen brothers movies, so I was unsure how to approach this series, but I'm excited to see how it plays out.
I was a bit iffy on the first 20-30 minutes or so, but the 2nd half caught me off guard and I loved it. It captures the dark comedic tone of the original film so well. It's got 98% on rottentomatoes (so far) out of 44 reviews.

I agree. That's about how long it took for it to truly distinguish itself as something separate from the film without sacrificing the dark comedy and tone. The scene at the Nygaard's home was just one surprise after another. That's when it really hooked me.
3 episodes in and I'm really digging it. Great cast, great characters. Love the allusions to the original film. Bob Odenkirk's deputy Bill character cracks me up.
Stavros (Oliver Platt's character) was the guy who found the money that Steve Buscemi hid in the movie.
Haha, I did not get that either. CPK did, and I had to rewind to see it. The actor looked nothing at all like him (even younger/skinnier him) and the only hint was the fade from his young face to current face.

I'm loving it, too. Odenkirk's character is clearly a dipshit, but they sometimes also portray it in the most subtle ways... like choosing the middle urinal out of 3 empties, forcing the other cop to have to pee right next to him.
Molly is my favorite. I've never seen the actress (Allison Tolman) in anything before but hope we see more from her in the future.

I got it. But I have to say, this show is not blowing my skirt up. Not like True Detective. I think I'm spoiled.

Last episode was insane. Can't wait to see where they go from here.
The AVClub writer has a theory that the buried money could be what connects each story, because I believe this season will end and if they get a second one then it'll be a different story/different characters. Sorta like American Horror Story. So maybe next season the money affects someone else, too?

FX orders 'Fargo' season 2, featuring new setting & new characters
As expected, FX has ordered a new season of "Fargo." And, as expected, it'll follow the "American Horror Story"/"True Detective" model of starting over from scratch.
Per FX's announcement this morning at the Television Critics Association press tour, "The new chapter of the 'Fargo' story will feature an all-new cast of characters, a new time period and a new 'true crime' story that will unfold over the course of 10 episodes."
One aspect of the acclaimed original season that won't change: Noah Hawley, who wrote all 10 episodes of season 1 — and who did a remarkable job of evoking the work of the Coen brothers without seeming like a bad imitator — will remain in charge of the show.
Many viewers had speculated that a second season would deal with the Sioux Falls case from the late '70s that Keith Carradine's character, Lou Solverson, kept alluding to. The mention of a new time period supports that theory, though the "all-new cast of characters" does not. For what it's worth, Hawley has been very cagey about the idea of a Sioux Falls season both times I've asked him.
But with such a terrific first season — and one that drew 18 Emmy nominations — I'm ready to trust Hawley on whatever he tries to do next with this world.
UPDATE: FX's John Landgraf said that the earliest the new "Fargo" season could debut would be fall of 2015, and that there will be "an all-new cast of actors," rather than taking the "American Horror Story" approach of recycling actors in new roles. There will be a panel later today with Hawley and producer Warren Littlefield, so we'll have more detail then.
Anyone else get the first season on blu ray? shit came with a free beanie:
lol
I DID! And it's awesome! It didn't show a special edition on Amazon when I placed the order, so this was a very nice surprise. Plus, only $24? All around A+ purchase.
