I've started watching the third season, and it's all right so far, but as someone who lives in the in the city this season takes place in, I just want to let everyone know how much it bothers me that all these characters take the backroads when they're driving when it would be infinitely more efficient (and safer in the dead of winter!) to just drive on the highway.
Any word on season 4 dropping? All I know is it'll be sometime in 2020 with Ben Whitshaw, Chris Rock, and Jason Schwartzman, taking place in the 1950s. Noah Hawley said it will be twice the size of other seasons.

No clue but I'm basically convinced that in this season we'll see a Mike Milligan origin story. So many things about the casting and plot that they've given us so far seem to point to an easy way to have young mike Milligan be the connective tissue to the other seasons.
Chris Rock as the lead of a black mob family who sends his child to be raised by the italian mob leader's family (in exchange for the italian's son to be raised by Rock)? Gotta be Mike that goes to the other side as a kid and learns the business and way things work. Also, there's a character named "Rabbi Milligan" which seems important and not just some random coincidence.
The cast is killer and I'm a Noah Hawley fanboy so I'm into whatever this new season turns out to be.

All three of the previous seasons were some of my favorite TV of the last 10 years, so I'm sure this one would be no different. Hawley said they wouldn't be doing a fourth one unless they really felt like they had a vital, worthy enough story to fit into the bigger picture.

jpbrez - I forget if we've discussed this but have you seen Legion? It's the other Hawley project that made me a full time believer. It's comic book related but leans more towards Twin Peaks and other trippy/confusing shows but it's one of the best I've seen in forever. Not a "fight criminals and save the day" type of superhero story. I highly recommend its 3 season run.
I haven't seen Legion yet, but because of Noah Hawley it's been on my radar. Although admittedly I've never been an X-men fan or a superhero enthusiast in general.

I’m not a comic book/superhero person at all, but I have enjoyed Legion.

Can't wait. I need to see if my theory about Mike Milligan being Chris Rock's son in this comes true. This looks like a very different season than the others....a bit more serious and maybe less bumbling crooks. I'm sure there will still be funny.
I love all the new people being brought into the Fargo world. The casting on this show is always fantastic.
There is but I'm like the only one who posts there haha.
I keep forgetting to post there, but I'm watching it too. Agreed that was a great one. I did have a crisis bc I thought the season was ten episodes and was worried they left so much to do in the last episode. Haha
I've overall really enjoyed season 4. I don't think it's quite as sharp as 1-3, and some of the characters are a little too over the top this time especially for a 1950 setting, but it's really come alive this 2nd half of the season and makes me hopeful for one or two more seasons.
I think they really strengthened the connections between this season and season 2 with the finale. In particular, if we are going with Satchel and Mike Milligan being the same person, the connection between Mike and his father being caught and crushed really by the mafia machine was poignant. Chris Rock did not sell me in every dramatic scene this season, but I think that scene was possibly his best of the season. All of the work and sacrifice to win and then lose anyway was really sad. On Loy, about five minutes before his death, it popped into my head that they never wrapped up where Zelmare ended up, so I knew she had to make a comeback. Such a rollercoaster for Loy there in the last twenty minutes.
"Shoot him first so I can watch." was one of my favorite lines of the season. Between this and I'm Thinking Of Ending Things, I hope Jessie Buckley is in more things in the future.
I don't think they nailed the tie together quite as well as they have for other seasons. To be honest, I kind of forgot Ethelreda was framing the whole thing as a history project. Can't win them all.
Edit: apparently, Mike Milligan makes a cameo in credits confirming that he and Satchel are the same person. Need to go back and check that out.

Chris Rock definitely gave an incredible performance all season. I definitely felt for him in the finale when it was all falling apart. And the look on his face wheh he died in front of Satchel was very haunting. Speaking of haunting another thing I enjoyed this season was the ghost that kept appearing. If Hawley keeps doing more seasons it would be cool to keep up the theme of supernatural elements in the flashback seasons. But from what I've read it may be a long time before we get a season 5.
Things I didn't like were mostly just how some of the characters didnt seem to fit into the world. Gaetano kept reminding me of Nacho Libre, and it wasn't really until the last couple of episodes where he sold me as a villain. This series has always had memorable villains like Lorne Malvo, Milligan, and Varga, but not this time really. I liked Jessie Buckley as Nurse Mayflower but again her character was just so over the top and I kept forgetting about her involvement in the story until she reappeared on screen. Same with the nervous cop played by Jack Huston. It just seemed like Hawley needed more "quirk" to make his story idea fit into the feel of the Fargo-verse so he threw them in with somewhat unsatisfying results.
Anyway, still really enjoyed it. I hope if he does a season 5 he brings it back to modern times though.
