I wasn't arguing Petty wouldn't headline. My point was you saying "nearly everyone loves a good bit of Petty" is, like everything else you've posted so far, way off base.

Except I'm pretty dead on. Tom Petty, to most of the youth, is just one of those guys whose songs they know but don't know his name. Everyone I know loves Mary Janes Last Dance or Running Down a Dream. To say he's not loved by most people is wrong.
Petty looks too obvious to be traveling through Atlanta on that Friday and fits the exact description of the Friday headliner. Everyone's in denial. Petty is the quacking man and I'm 20 soooo...

"Youth doesn't give a fuck about petty" Well I'm 15 and I love Tom.

I'm surprised that Music Midtown hasn't mentioned anything on Facebook or Twitter about upcoming clues or something. Seems like after last year's festival they've just disappeared.

They followed Outkast on twitter and did a throwback Thursday to when Tom petty headlined in 2005 on their Facebook. Nothing major though which kind of pisses me off. Should see something next week hopefully.
They hadn't started clues at this point last year either
I think it might be because they're waiting for Shaky Knees to die down. Before Shaky Knees, they announced it May-ish but now it's late June. If I remember correctly, they made the Weezer announcement June 13th and then nearly one every day.

Kasabian are possible with their tour dates. They're in Boston on 9/26 and go north from there. Also, they're headlining Glastonbury, which Arctic Monkeys did last year when they were at MM. I would love Kaiser Chiefs as well. They recorded their new album in ATL but didn't play there. KC are unlikely but let me dream.

105.7 was just talking about Bastille saying "they haven't announced an ATL date but I'm sure we'll see them again in the fall" They pretty much have all of September off and start touring US again in October.
Still no Atlanta show on Jack White's new set of announced dates

This scares me to believe no OutKast. I know it's unethical but still. It might be because he came to Atlanta on his last tour and comparing that setlist with his Gov Ball setlist, there isn't much difference.
EDIT: any chance he plays without headlining? Does he ever do that? Like, taking QOTSA's spot.

One Music Fest could be a possibility for Outkast. It's the weekend before Music Midtown and they moved it from the Masquerade outdoors park to Aaron's Amphitheatre this year. I think we are guaranteed to get Outkast at either MM or OMF. I would prefer OMF since it will be easier to get a good spot. I hate that they moved to Aaron's and will have some reserved seats as it kills the festy vibe.

He is a headliner for this size fest. I mean you don't headline bonnaroo and move down.

Seems like they would get a much bigger pay day playing Music Midtown and the fact that Music Midtown looks their Twitter page is a very good sign.

go big or go home. Maybe one of them could play solo.

In the case of Jack White I agree, but to play devil's advocate Phoenix headlined Coachella last year and they were not a headliner at Music Midtown.

I would think that Outkast would be more likely for MM as well. Either way, I'm fine as long as I get to see them at 1 of the 2. They owned Counterpoint.
I would be up for Nas at OMF. I saw him at the Tabernacle a few years back with Damien Marley on their Distant Relatives tour and I had a great time.

Music Midtown is literally made for OutKast this year
