And have you been to exposition park as a concert venue before? Wondering what to expect! I went to the science center for the first time last month but didn't really see much else of it. Not sure what's available for use.

Yes I went last year; no I've never been to a concert at Expo park, but I've been to several events on premise. (LA Rising, USC football games, and I've seen a show at the Sports Arena)
You're guess is as good as mine as the layout goes. This venue is ON CAMPUS for USC students, so I imagine that will have an effect on the crowd. School should definitely be in session by late August.
Here's a google map of the venue, I'm not sure how they will have it set up. The areas are accessible. I think they will use the south field (by the sports arena) as an stage area, and the north field (by the subway station) as a stage area. They will most likely have vendors set up in the in between.
Parking in that area sucks, but the train is right there. From my area, it would prolly be an hour train ride with only one transfer.

They said on the radio they'll be utilizing the inside of the sports arena also. I hope they're going back to the park next year after it re-opens, they didn't really discuss that.

The sports arena is the smaller dome thing that is in the bottom right of the map I posted. That would be crazy It's a basketball /hockey venue--- I'm not sure how it would go in a festival setting. I don't think it makes sense to put the headliners in there! I hope it's used for a smaller stage, maybe the dancier stuff (like the tent last year).
If they had the big bands in the sports arena, I don't get how it would work logistically. There is tons of entry/exit points to the building but they are small narrow doorways. I don't know how the inbound/outbound traffic would go getting in and our of there.

Been to a few Go Ventures festivals here long time ago. If they're using the sports arena as a stage I'd imagine it would be similar to this
I could see the sports arena being the mainstage as well, It has around a 16k capacity. Last years attendance was around 25k and even though this years lineup seems to have wider appeal FYF will be competing with MIA that's going on the following week.
