The Strokes make is worthwhile enough for me, they're my favorite band and only playing a handful of shows this year. Plus the solo sets from Julian an Albert Hammond Jr are awesome. Then there's all the quality electronic and hip hop, and the slowdive reunion is cool too

julian + the voidz is really something. and by that i mean something terrible, it was atrocious at Coachella. shame.
so weird that people are pretending to care about slowdive now. like the pavement reunion but weirder.

There are many bands doing the same thing now except way better. Unless there's some weird nostalgia, which I can't grasp with them as a 25 year old, I don't get it.

Staying at the Americas Best Value Inn at 1123 W 7th Street, Los Angeles, CA 9001. $98 a night for a room with 2 double beds. It's a 3 minute walk from the 7th Street/Metro Center station and 10 minute ride from there to Expo park on the Metro Expo Line. Anyone find any better deals?

I'll be honest, I had no clue who they were until the reunion. I listened when some people made a big deal when the reunion was announced, and I liked it. I'd like to check it out. And what did you think was bad about the Voidz show? Was it the material or the show? I'm wondering because if it's the show then it can be fixed I guess
@foxandhound forgot to touch on this earlier. I don't see why it would be weird for people to be excited about pavement. When I was first getting into indie rock Pavement was made to be an essential like the Pixies or Fugazi (using indie rock very loosely here). I started getting into indie around 2011 though, so maybe they were put in higher regard in hindsight from the reunion, but I always assumed they were a giant

hard to tell if the material is good and it was just performed poorly or if it was poor material performed in perfect fashion. could also be that both material and performance were bad i suppose.

They are kinda over-dramatized. Its not like they stopped making music and disappeared. I'm curious to see how that show goes. For all the excitement, I'm betting the stage will be empty.

No modern shoegaze band that has made an album as good as Souvlaki which is third only to Loveless and Nowhere.
Unless you count Deerhunter as a shoegaze band which I don't.

sorry just now seing this.
its a weird phenomenon because people dont start caring about the band until they reunite and are suddenly a big deal again.
like people who werent listening to Pavement records in 2009 were over the moon that Pavement was playing in 2010.
it just seems like people pretending to care because they think they should.

I could see the sports arena being the mainstage as well, It has around a 16k capacity
How many do you think just the floor holds? I'm wondering if they'd close off the terrace/concourse seating and just have the floor open.
Legally? I would say say 7k-8k. But I've been to a few events where It's felt like way more than that. However I don't think that would happen at a Golden Voice Event.

So Made in America LA, which is just one week away from FYF, their lineup kinda sucks... I was counting on that to draw away some crowds and postpone the sold-out time so more of my friends can buy tickets.
Considering Made in America's lineup is kind of garbage.... When does anyone think FYF sell out? Will it sell out?
I try to approach these questions with logic, but at the end it's always some huge guessing game for me.....

the two fests have nothing in common. MIA is for more casual music fans. one wont affect the other.

I think it's fun how every year they do a different theme for the names of the stages. Last year was Sex & the City... 2011 was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Just a little detail that I think adds to the overall creativity
No idea. Did it even sell out last year? I bought our tickets because of the same paranoia, but I think it will be a while... if it sells out at all.
And yes, the MIA LA lineup is poop compared to this. I do wish they would trade venues, though.
Ha yeah I tried to buy the tickets the minute they went on sale, and I went to the standby screen or whatever, and freaked a little (thanks Coachella). Ended up buying four tickets out of panic that it'd sell out this year due to the stupid good lineup.
Can someone on the West Coast, preferably LA residents, help me understand the neighborhood this is in and where it is located in relation to "tourist" spots. I am thinking of going out because The Strokes have been on point this year and the gf really digs Haim. I figured I'd do the whole LA thing since I have yet to had the chance to step into the city. Any advice would be appreciated.
Well, looks like I'll be needing to buy some tickets secondhand. Was trying to convince friends to buy but it took them too long. I go to USC, so the venue is awesome for me. Hopefully I can make it out there.
