1 Grouplove - Such an insane show. Never had so much fun. The band was nailing every song and full of energy. The crowd was wild. The security had to up their game to keep the crowd surfing down ( it was a nice try). Christian went off stage on the first song, on the first fucking verse. I can`t get over how fucking fun this set was.
2 Elton John- Becuase Elton John.
3 Skrillex- Me and my buddy were up close for him and he didn`t disappoint.
4 Vampire Weekend- In the pit. So awesome.
5 The Lone Bellow- Their show was not crowded and I felt kind of sad for it because their set was awesome. Half the tent was full and you`d think people would want to get out of the sun.
6 The Naked and Famous- I didn`t get to see all of their set, but I saw around the first 45 minutes. And it was perfect. It was the first set I saw because I spent Thursday at the Comedy Tent. It was a great way to start off the rest of the weekend full of great shows.
7 Ice Cube- I never expected to have enjoyed this set as much as I did, but he really pulled the crowd in. Loved it.
8 Lionel Richie- Because All Night Long helped pushed me far into Saturday night.
9 John Butler Trio- I enjoyed their show for the most part, just was not familiar with most of what they played. Oceans was one the best live performances I have ever seen in my life, though. It was one of the most surreal moments of the festival to hear that 13 minutes of awesome.
10 Capital Cities- They would have been higher if it they hadn`t done that weird remix thing at the end. I loved the rest of the set, though.
It was damn near impossible to put the bottom half of this list in order, & even the honorable mentions were all really hard to not put in the top 10. Quacking awesome year!
1. The Flaming Lips - I was so torn on missing them for the SuperJam, then decided I just had to go see them after the SJ started & was just too packed for me. Best decision all weekend. Was able to work my way up front right since I was on my own & the crowd wasn't too packed. I knew I would like this set, but had no idea how much. Seeing Do You Realize & Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was pure magic.
2. Arctic Monkeys - Another surprise for me - I was excited to see them, was with the last group to get in the pit, but enjoyed that set more than I knew I would. If I go to OSL this year, I'll probably be seeing them over Kanye.
3. Skrillex SuperJam - I missed the middle of this set, but saw the very beginning & everything from the end of Janelle Monae on. Break on Through was killer. Wish I had been there for Warpaint & the rest of Janelle Monae's part, but this set is still #3 for me.
4. Avett Brothers - most people in my group sounded pretty out on them, but I thought they put on a great show - the emotional tone was just right for me for a Sunday pre-headliner.
5. Sir! Elton! John! - Besides not getting any Lion King, this was just right. By the end, I had forgotten he hadn't played Your Song yet. Totally fitting that I got one more good cry in before the weekend was over.
6. City & Colour - I've been wanting to see them for a few years, & got to just lay in the grass & soak up this set. Sunday was such a good day.
7. Jack White - I left early to get to the SuperJam, but got to see the first 1/3 from the pit. That guy rawks.
8. Lionel Richie - All Night Long! Brick House! Stuck on You! And that whole rant about who you call when you're sad or when you're happy (spoken in a hushed/rough tone: call Lionel Richie!)
9. Grouplove - I had a great view of their 2012 set & our whole gang loved it... it was amazing to see the size & excitement of the crowd this year. Plus their cover of Drunk in Love. Those kids are just swell.
10. The Head & The Heart - I just love them. Another one that I thought I was going to skip & was so glad not to.
HM: J. Roddy, Derek Trucks SuperJam, Kanye, Janelle Monae, Umphrey's, Sam Smith, St. Paul, Vance Joy, & King Khan
1. Vampire Weekend - Haven't seen them live since Bonnaroo '08 and love the latest album so this was a really big deal for me. They absolutely crushed it! 2. Lauryn Hill - I wasn't aware of how she had re-invented her catalog so it wasn't at all what I was expecting but it was vicious and I am in awe of her talent. 3. Elton John - Beautiful performance. I wish he would have done a bit more interacting with the crowd since we know he isn't shy to speak his mind but still was thrill to be part of this historic performance. 4. Damon Albarn - Awesome show and the guests were cool as hell. Things didn't go entirely smoothly for it but that spontaneity is part of the magic of live music. Happy with what we got but I hope Blur plays 'roo sometime because there were so many more songs I would love to see. 5. Frank Ocean - This was a really good set but it was the crowds energy that ranks it so high. Pure appreciation and enjoyment. 6. Jack White - Didn't catch all of his show since I will be seeing him at Forecastle but what I did catch has me looking forward to it way more than I already was. 7. Janelle Monae - Very exciting and full of free energy as she always is so knew it wouldn't disappoint. 8. Ice Cube - Definitely followed the old school hip hop show format which can be a let down but he's still got the distinctive voice and stage presence to pull it off. 9. Phosphorescent - A very welcome and beautifully mellow set to accompany the high energy excitement that mostly defines the Bonnaroo experience. 10. Arctic Monkeys - Even though their show was very similar to what they played a few months ago when I saw them it still was great set.
HM: Kanye West - Like everyone else I got to weigh in with my opinion on this one. When he was performing it was spectacular and the stage set up was super cool but too many breaks in action and restarts to allow it to build properly. Hard to overlook how much better I though his Yeezus show in November was to allow this into the top 10.

1.Darkside 2.Damon Albarn 3.Kanye West 4.Jack White 5.James Blake 6.Nick Cave 7.Warpaint 8.Janelle Monae 9.Broken Bells 10.Seasick Steve
Saturday was just an amazing night of music all around for me. Was in the pit Seasick Steve, Cake, and Damon. Chromeo had me dancing and James Blake really surprised me, what a voice. Jack White played everything I wanted to hear. Nick Cave was another huge surprise so much energy. And then on the rail for Darkside and I really thought they were going to stop my heart a few times.
Top ten sets from this years Bonnaroo for me: 1. Kanye West- In the top 2 for most intense show I've ever seen, the only other competition is when I saw him on the Yeezus tour. You'll see mixed reviews from this show much like anything else Kanye does. I was in the pit for this and the energy and show was incredible. For those in the back who's times were ruined or those who didn't enjoy the show I'm truly sorry, but for those of us in the pit damn that was crazy. All I could think about while in the pit was "Damn I remember hearing about Kanye at Bonnaroo in 08 long before I ever attended this place, now here I am in the pit for his return." It was such a surreal experience for me. This show could have been better though. I have no problem with the rants at all as long as they don't affect the set list. On the Yeezus tour that wasn't the case at this show it was. That's my only complaint though.
2. Elton John: Such a great show. The sing a longs were perfect, the atmosphere was great during his set. It was the second time I saw him and I much preferred this show. Surprisingly great visuals. The buzz lightyear balloon being let off during rocket man was a top 5 moment of the whole fest for me.
3. Damon Albarn: Man I loved this set. The chill vibe during his solo and blur stuff and the energy when he broke out the Gorillaz songs. Having de la soul and Del the funky homosapien come out and do feel good inc. And Clint Eastwood were incredible.
4. Skrillex Super Jam/Skrillex solo: Had a blast at both sets especially the super jam. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced and will likely ever experience again.
5. Chromeo: A funky party. Period. A great crowd, great set list and energy. Had even more fun than I anticipated.
6. Jack White: His vocals live are not very smooth but it plays in well with his grimey guitar. This set was fucking LOUD and fucking AWESOME.
7. Kaskade- Got to this show late but damn his light show and production was incredible it was really hard to not have a good time. Definitely surprised me.
8. Lionel Richie- Showed up right when he played endless love, brick house, Hello, all night long, and we are the world all in a row and It was seriously magical. Especially all night long.
9. Janelle Monae- Heard rave reviews from her live shows and damn I see why. This girl is a performer through and through. She has an energy about her that not many people have. It's a gift that she has mastered how to use. It's hard to be in her presence without wanting to let loose and dance.
10. James Blake- Didn't catch this whole set but from what I did see all I can say is WOW. The bass was so deep, the vocals were so smooth. I was a fan before but he really surprised me. I will be shocked if he hasn't blown up within the next 5 years.
I saw some absolutely great shows this year. Best one yet.

This show was so amazing, we were in the second row in the middle. Did you hear a big group of people singing happy birthday before his show started?
Finally had some time to process best and worst sets, so this is just my personal opinion and only going off of shows I mostly caught (obviously):
1. DARKSIDE - For months before Roo, I tried to give these guys a listen and just couldn't get the obsession. Now, I'm a total convert. Hands down, the best late night set of 2014 for me -- totally intriguing, extremely intimate given the smaller crowd size. These guys are an amazing live act, and I would definitely see them again. 2. The Flaming Lips - I had seen the Flips supporting My Morning Jacket's One Big Holiday in Mexico and enjoyed their set, but I'd heard from friends that the fun was gone and the new tour was a lot darker than the days of Wayne Coyne crowd-surfing in zorbs/hamster balls. The Roo set definitely felt more like the latter -- the band sounded completely on point (even at Which Stage late night!) and played a great, upbeat set list, even without every single old antic. The visual show, as expected, was striking at night. 3. Janelle Monae - Amazing stage presence, phenomenal vocals, graciously waited until the end of the set to shout out her band. Made me wish I had come earlier for a closer spot, but that would've meant sacrificing elsewhere. 4. Skrillex Superjam - To be clear, the crowd was massive, and I struggled to find a spot to even hear clearly what was going on. (Oddly enough, standing more toward the fountain than toward the This Tent sign provided better sound for us.) I left early to catch the second half of the Flaming Lips, but from what I heard before I left and what I've read since, Skrillex did a great job curating. Looking forward to watching the archived performance to appreciate it more. 5. Robert Delong - Classic one-man show -- really deserved a nighttime Thursday slot (like the Cherub slot). 6. High and Mighty Brass Band - I became obsessed with these guys after catching them at the Christmas Barn on Friday, and they definitely deserve a mention after playing six sets all over the Farm. Very infectious brass. 7. Caveman - Slower start to their set, but really picked up in intensity as they went, especially their closing song. As aspects of the 1980s/1990s sound filter back into up-and-coming bands, the way these guys handle it fits my taste best. 8. Phoenix - Great, clean live show. Impressive how much they sound like their albums live. 9. Chvrches - There was a lot of anticipation for this show (although, maybe more anticipation six months ago than by the time Roo rolled around, per usual Roo booking rules). They delivered and were engaged. Like Phoenix, very reminiscent of their studio sound. 10. Kins - Had a tough slot -- past midnight on Thursday when everyone is passed out -- but had a really interesting, Radiohead-esque sound. We made it a point to fight through our fatigue to catch them. They're British, so I'm hoping to make a special trip to see them at LouFest in St. Louis since they're new and who knows when they'll play the US again if they stay a smaller act.
(Also, we chose to nap/regroup during Kanye and Jack White -- for better or worse -- so I have no right (or desire) to weigh into that debate. Will be catching the archived performances eventually.)

This show was so amazing, we were in the second row in the middle. Did you hear a big group of people singing happy birthday before his show started?
I was probably midway back to the left at first. Then a few songs in Jake Jortles noticed me and a I went and watched the rest of the show more towards the middle with them. I don't recall hearing happy birthday though. Lol I was dressed as Guy Man from Daft punk so you couldn't miss me.
I only have a top 3, but: Darkside, Chance, Neutral Milk Hotel.
I found myself spontaneously just erupting into euphoric laughter at several points during Darkside's set. Really one of my favorite shows of my life. this was probably the highest concentration of people on mushrooms in a tent all weekend
Chance was so excited to be there and seemed genuinely humbled, said it was his favorite show he's ever done. The Arthur theme was fantastic, as was his commentary on some of the slower songs - he basically expressed he didn't want to play songs that weren't "festivalesque," but these were the ones with themes really important to him pertaining to inner city violence. They were way better than he gives himself credit for. The crowd was super energetic and Chance fed off of it.
Jeff Mangum tried to stay cool but couldn't hold it in and eventually just smiled real big and said "we fucking love you Bonnaroo." Also a mosh pit began with the opening chords of Holland, 1945. What an incredible show.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
5th straight Roo, and undeniably my favorite one yet. 1) Jack White - Went into the show having Jack White at Lolla 2012 as my favorite show of all time, and his set at Roo was far better minus hearing Black Math at Lolla. And his banter was some of my favorite all time as well. 2) Darkside - Came in thinking this or Goat would be my favorite, but Jack White was so good that it stands out above the rest. Excellent set, and I believe they played everything minus Greek Light. 3) Goat - Lived up to my expectations but didn't exceed them. The new songs they played leave me with high hopes for the next album. The sound was a little off, but they were great regardless. 4) Cut Copy - Probably had the most fun here or at Dakhabrakha throughout the entire weekend. Excellent stage presence and can put on a show. 5) Dakhabrakha - Biggest surprise. Wanted to walk past them for a few songs after Dr Dog then see Umphreys even though I don't really care for Umph, but I never considered walking away from the second I arrived. So much fun. Also, our friend group got the stage signs for Dakhabrakha and Goat when we were cleaning up post show. Best groundscores ever. 6) Neutral Milk Hotel - Saw them in Indy and it was great, but the entire crowd was too cool to sing or dance. Lets just say Bonnaroo was a far better experience. Sat back with our friend group and sang our hearts out. 7) Dr Dog - Huge fan, enough to say they're better than the Beatles. Dr Dog totally rips them off but unlike the Beatles I don't find them incredibly boring. The setlist could have been better but they played some of my favorites. 8) Ty Segall - Watched one live song of his before Roo and instantly knew I needed to catch the show. Did not disappoint, he brought so much energy and I swear there were points he was dragging his strings on the ground. The most Rock n Roll show I'e ever seen. 9) Hannibal Burress - Laughs, dude is hilarious. 10) Phosphorescent - Was expecting to love it for the chill music they play, which sometimes jams. I was not expecting it to jam that hard. Pleasantly surprised by this show.
As far as disappointments go, the Trucks superjam was good but I was only super happy about Statesboro Blues. The Flaming Lips were atrocious. Third time seeing them(loved the other 2), and all I could think about was how I should have been seeing Nick Cave instead. Just didn't want to lose the rest of my friend group before Darkside.
Other good sets: Damon Albarn, Vampire Weekend, Omar Souleyman and James Blake. Had plenty of other shows I wanted to see, but there is something to be said about taking it easy at camp.

Damn, yeah I didnt see you. What an amazing show though.

1. Jack White 2. Sir Elton - I wasn't the biggest fan going in, but he and his band really impressed me. That Rocket Man, alone, was sublime. 3. Cage the Elephant. Energy and more energy. 4. Head and the Heart 5. Skrillex super jam 6. Arctic Monkeys 7. Avett Brothers 8. Phosphorescent 9. Disclosure 10. Okkervil River

This thread makes me sad because it makes me realize I didn't even see 10 full shows. Almost all the ones I saw were phenomenal tho.
Kanye Disclosure Elton Skrillex Superjam Kaskade Arctic Monkeys Banks Chromeo (the little bit I did see) Zedd (again, only caught the last few mins) Lauryn Hill (left 20mins in)
1. Jack White - THAT ENCORE. 2. Chance the Rapper - Really gave us something special. I saw him do pretty much the same set at Firefly, and his Roo performance was on a whole 'nother level. The crowd was really into the show and he was very appreciative of that. 3. Chromeo - Wasn't expecting this to be so high, but I had a great time dancing my butt off. 4. Janelle Monae - Cold War makes me cry. Every. Single. Time. I was on the rail for this so hopefully the video doesn't have me blubbering my face off. 5. Skrillex Superjam - I wish I hadn't been way off in the back wandering around for most of this set, but seeing all of Jack White was worth it. 6. Arctic Monkeys - Listening to them while laying down in the back of the What field was exactly what I needed on Sunday. 7. Elton John - Did Elton Johnny things; it was cool. 8. Derek Trucks Superjam 9. The Avett Brothers - Always a consistent live show. 10. James Blake - Really, really wish I wasn't so far back for this one.

1. Jack White - had heard he was a great guitar player, but what I knew of his guitar work was mostly from the White Stripes. He blew me away with his skill, and also impressed with great stage banter/showmanship. Not to mention so many essential songs played during this set.
2. Darkside - I don't know anyone else who does anything remotely similar to these guys. Fascinating minimalist blend of electronics and guitar, along with vocals that slip into the mix and then vanish like a thief in the night. Had some negative emotions coming into this set, but Darkside totally washed them away. Very cleansing effect.
3. Neutral Milk Hotel - had seen them at The Ryman and walked away disappointed. Little energy in the crowd and no one was getting into it. Complete 180 degree difference here. I was not expecting them to turn out a legitimate hard rock show. The moshing was nuts, and just when you thought you were going to die Mangum brings it back down with a haunting rendition of "Oh Comely." Captivating.
4. Damon Albarn - otherwise known as the "I don't care what the lead singer of Cage the Elephant does, he isn't going to top this" set. Fascinating blend of rock, hip hop, and downtempo influences expertly blended together into a single set, and that's even without mentioning show stopping guest appearances from De La Soul and Del the Funky Homosapien.
5. Mastodon - hadn't gotten into a mosh pit in a long time, but just had to for Mastodon and it was glorious. They played a great array of songs from across their catalog. The best surprise was "Calliparian Crest," a badass deep cut from their Blood Mountain album. Just wish more people would have come out to see it.
6. Janelle Monae - Easily one of the best performers on the farm this year. What more needs to be said? Only negative was that the set felt a little rushed; she sprinted through her hits but would have liked to see her break out a deep cut or two. Saw her do Victory at a show last year and it showcased the dynamic range and power of her vocals better than anything else I heard.
7. Cake - this was just a fun show. Great, feel good tunes and my crew and I had a spot right on the center rail in the pit. One of us even caught the drummer's drumstick he threw at the end of the show!
8. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - would probably be higher had I been there for the whole thing but Jack White was not yet done with me. They felt like an amazing gothic rock band out a Quentin Tarantino film. Highlight was easily the extra verse he added into Stagger Lee where Stagger Lee straight up kills the Devil! Pure badassery!
9. Cloud Nothings - one of my current favorite bands, and they did not disappoint! Lots of energy, and plenty of people leaving this show in droves I guess because they couldn't handle it. When they played "Psychic Trauma" and "Wasted Days" I just wanted to go crazy!
10. Elton John - He's Elton John, not much more needs to be said. He has an extensive back catalog of amazing hits that guarantee you'll have a great time no matter your musical preference. Also quite possibly the best piano playing this festival has ever seen? Not much crowd energy though from where I was at. It felt like some of the crowd was more interested in tossing glow sticks around than paying attention to the show. It sort of took me out the element a little bit.
My buddy was climbing the rafters to get a better look.
That show was out of control.
Haha nice! which one?! There was like 30 people climbing the rafters. I was talking to the dude in the 666 shirt, he was one of the first ones to climb up. They had to shut them down like twice to get the crowd semi-undercontrol! Haha I went to that show as a fan of The Orwells, but was not expecting it to be one of my highlights from Bonnaroo this year - and definitely one of the most energetic/entertaining shows I've seen in a long time. They really brought their A Game. I would put money on The Orwells returning to Bonnaroo next year in a tent. They really underestimated their attendance.

We also hugely underestimated their attendance. We came late and couldn't actually get into the tent so were just standing a little further back until by buddy (a bigger guy with a yellow chili peppers jersey on) began climbing up the back left rafter to get a better view. Shortly after that they shut em down for the first time lol.
