In the light of a clear blue morning, all she can do is take the cash on the barrel head.
Don't call it love.
I think my lame attempt at a joke was lost on some. I was in no way diminishing Dolly's repertoire to "9 to 5", rather suggesting that Ms. Parton does not work past 5pm.
he was quoting some of her repertoire right back atcha
I believe Beyonce is a more accurate choice, but I would like some feedback on why Dolly Parton couldn't be a Sunday HL?
She simply wouldn't be popular enough, especially with the younger audience that makes up the overwhelming majority of the festival-goers. And before anyone brings up that she headlined Glastonbury, so did the Arctic Monkeys. Twice. And they were top on the bill.

There's no real history with Roo that suggests that she would be viewed as a headliner. Willie Nelson played Which. Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers and Loretta Lynne all played tents. More modern country acts like Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and Kacey Musgraves played tents or Which.
The only country acts that I can think of playing What are Allison Krauss and Zac Brown Band. I believe that they both preheadlined and I think that's the best you could expect for her.
Didn't want to bring facts into this argument but I think it was needed. Again for the record, I like Dolly Parton. I wish she would play Bonnaroo. I wish there were female headliners this year and moving forward. She is not a headliner at Bonnaroo.
I'm sure Petty's numbers are comparable and he fucking blows.

Petty plays ampitheaters/arenas. Also he doesn't blow.

I know, he fucking blows. I don't think Dolly would headline either. I don't care how many seats are in a place, it'd be about how many people are in them. I saw Elton play to like 6k. Just saying it isn't all a numbers game.

Does Portishead headline if they (finally) play next year?
The only slot I want to see them in is LN Which. I do not want a daytime Portishead show, and they wouldn't be a top 3 headliner. Bonnaroo needs to make my LN Portishead dream come true.
I like Dolly Parton and I'm thrilled that many people saw her at Glastonbury but I don't think she is a headliner and here is my argument:
Europe Tour and the venue capacity 8 Liverpool, England Echo Arena -12k for sports, probably more for concerts 10 Belfast, Northern Ireland Odyssey Arena -8.7k 11 Dublin, Ireland O2 Arena -14.5k 12 Cork, Ireland Live at the Marquee -festival 14 Newcastle, England Metro Radio Arena -11k 15 Aberdeen, Scotland GE Arena -8.5k 17 Glasgow, Scotland Hydro Arena -13k 20 Leeds, England First Direct Arena -13.5k 21 Manchester, England Phones 4U Arena -21k and a horrible name 22 Birmingham, England LG Arena -15.6k 24 Cardiff, Wales Motorpoint Arena -7.5k 27 London, England O2 Arena -20k July 2 Nottingham, England The Capitla FM Arena -10k 5 Cologne, Germany Lanxess Arena -20k 6 Berlin, Germany O2 World -17k 8 Copenhagen, Denmark Forum -10k 9 Oslo, Norway Spektrum -9.7k

Average capacity per venue on Europe tour 13,250. Average capacity per venue on the US tour just under 4k.
Now it doesn't mean all venues were sold out but I think that is a good indicator. She makes stops on both continents. She played US and Europe dates in 2014. Her last tour of significance was 2011 and she did the US and Europe. Last tour before that was 2008 involved Europe and US dates. All 3 of those times she was playing casinos and colleges in the US and arena's in Europe.

not that it really matters, but for the sake of putting all the "facts" out there. the show in Knoxville was at Thompson Boling Arena, the state's largest arena that holds 22k+. But she also has dollywood nearby in gatlinburg, and I have no idea how many people were at the show in Knoxville.

I mean, I generally agree that she's probably not a headliner, but she damn well deserves a pre-HL. But these numbers aren't comparing apples to apples. I don't know much about Cherokee, NC, but I'm confident it's no Berlin.
But just trying to breakdown the numbers more, she played four shows in Oklahoma (population, 3.8 million) to a crowd of 14k total. She played a solo show to 14.5k Ireland (population 4.5 million) so the numbers aren't terribly dissimilar.
